An Jian has served Mei Lin and Lan Long's family for many years, and when Lan Long was young, he taught the prince swordsmanship even though he was only a few years older than him.

He was a prodigy with a sword as a pup, and has become one of the best swordswolves in the kingdom. Before he came to serve the royal family, he was born to a Pack of assassins and even at a very young age, was taking on missions and assassinating targets. He buried his emotions early on, became quite robotic, going through the motions of life while feeling dead inside from the dark deeds he was forced to perform by his Pack and his family.

At the age of 13, he assassinated a family of mages, however one escaped after managing to curse him for killing his family. From then on, whenever he drew blood with his sword, he changed into a ruthless monster unable to tell friend from foe, slaying anything that moved until there was nothing left to slay before reverting back. The first time this happened, he killed his own father as well as a few other Packmates. Horrified at what he had done, he ran and never returned to his Pack, afraid they would kill him for what he had done... but also feeling as though he would deserve it. All the emotions he had locked away came pouring out all at once and he swore that his blade would only protect from that day on, and would never again draw blood. He developed a way of fighting with the dull backside of his sword and his sheath, where he could incapacitate opponents without drawing a drop of blood.

At 16, he had made a name for himself as the 'Blade of Peace' and was sought out by a messenger from the royal family. He was asked to travel to the palace to teach the young prince swordsmanship. Unsure, but willing to try, he went to the palace and began teaching the reckless young Lan Long to use a sword. Lan Long took to him quickly and he soon earned the prince's utmost respect, becoming like an older brother to the younger wolf. He did his best to teach Lan Long discipline as well, for he did not wish to train a killer, and often worried that his pupil's recklessness would lead to more death that could be attributed to himself. He worried more than ever when Lan Long left the palace, giving up his title as Prince, and disappeared, fearing that his thirst for battle would lead to his death, and the deaths of many others.

With Lan Long gone, he stayed on as a palace guard, watching over the princess and making sure no harm would come to her. He often thought about going after his pupil, trying to find him, but he realized that Lan Long needed to find his own path in life, even if he strayed from what he had taught him. And eventually Lan Long returned, safe, but for the loss of an eye. Now An Jian looks after Mei Lin and Lan Long's pups, and has even taught swordsmanship to a few of them.

An Jian is a very calm and caring individual, it is very hard to anger or even annoy him for he is incredibly tolerant. He is very wise and level-headed, as well as a brilliant strategist. He is actually quite an emotional type, but he hides it well, and is generally very happy-go-lucky and friendly. He feels the affects of tragedy deeply and is always trying to help any wolf in need. He would gladly give his life for another, feeling that living the rest of his life in service to others is the only way to atone for his past.

An Jian has no idea if his curse will pass on to any pups he might have, and so he has long been avoiding love and has become rather desensitized to any wolf's attempts to flirt with him. He is completely oblivious when it comes to romance.
