The Waldgrave Warmblood is a relatively new breed of horse, which finds its origins at the Waldgrave Stables in Canada. Breeders there used horses from a variety of bloodlines in their efforts to create the ultimate performance horse breed, and soon enough a steady type emerged. Not long after the breed registry was created, Waldgraves could be found competing at top levels of competition around the world.

The Waldgrave Warmblood stands between 15 and 18 hands high, with stallions tending to be larger than mares. While this breed excels in most English riding disciplines, many also find success in Western arenas, with some making excellent driving or racing horses. The breed is not limited in coat colours, and can display a wide variety of patterns. While most coat colours tend to be similar to those of other horse breeds, the Waldgrave Warmblood's eyes can vary widely in colour, from golden hues to near red, and deep violets. Each individual within the breed tends to specialize in a certain discipline or type of competition, whether due to their personalities or conformation - very few horses compete in wide ranges of competition. Waldgraves are excellent in that they breed true to type, however their personalities can vary widely - it is suggested that any potential owner assess the Waldgrave's individual personality before deciding if they would like to own it.

Some of the breeds used in the creation of the Waldgrave Warmblood include: the Thoroughbred, Arabian, Selle Francais, Andalusian, Akhal Teke, Oldenburg, Knabstrupper, Shagya Arabian, Belgian Warmblood, Morgan, French Trotter, and Dutch Warmblood.

Waldgraves can excel in a wide range of disciplines, including those listed below - these are a horse's specialties, as each individual will generally only work within one of the 6 categories, if not only one specific discipline.
English Riding: Dressage, Cross-Country, Showjumping, Eventing, Endurance, Show Hunter, and English Pleasure
Western Riding: Reining, Trail, Western Pleasure, Cutting, and Barrel Racing
Racing: Steeplechase, Flat, and Harness Racing
Driving: Fine Harness, Pleasure Driving, and Roadster
Team Sports: Mounted Games, Combined Driving, Team Penning
Other: Halter Class, Vaulting, Free Jumping

Breedings are currently CLOSED

Once more artists are hired, I'll be setting up a breeding thread.
Until then, I'll show here if I'm open for breedings.

    Breeding Rules:
      - Mares can be bred once per month
      - Stallions can be bred any number of times
      - Retired horses can be bred
      - Retired stallions can only be bred once per month - retired mares can also be bred once per month
      - Geldings and sterilized mares cannot be bred
      - Currently, only breedings between a mare and stallion are possible
      - Make sure you have permission from the owners of both parents before submitting for a breeding
      - Selling/trading/giving away breeding slots from your Waldgraves is permitted; however you might not have a say as to when the slot is used. If it is a stallion's slot, this doesn't matter – if it is a mare's slot, or a retired stallion's slot, whomever submits the breeding for that Waldgrave first will receive the breeding. Anyone else who has a slot from them and wishes to use it must wait for the breeding rest period to end
      - Only foals created by one of our breeding artists on the official lines are considered Waldgrave Warmbloods
      - Foals are considered 'adults' 2 weeks after they are made - at this point in time, they can breed and participate in shows
      - When two horses are bred, their points are averaged out in the foal; in this way, bred horses have an advantage in shows (more information on points in the 'Show Info' section!)
      - Producing twins is possible, but uncommon, with chances of producing twins being 1/100
      - There are downsides to producing twins - if two foals are born, the average of their parents' points is split in half, with each foal receiving one half of that average (ex: Say a mare and stallion average out to 50 jumping points - if the mare births twins, the foals will receive 25 jumping points instead of 50)
      - When submitting a breeding form, you can choose to eliminate the possibility of producing twins - if you roll for twins after choosing this option, the foal will be a chimera
      - The exchange of breeding slots is not monitored by staff or mods, so please keep your own records of slot exchanges with your Waldgraves
      - Breedings may not occur between horses who share ancestors tracing back at most 3 generations – any more than this is acceptable (One example: Horse A and Horse B wish to breed, but both have Horse C as a great-grandsire. Horse A and Horse B are not eligible to be bred together. Another example: Horse X and Horse Y wish to breed, but both have Horse Z as a great-great-grandsire. Because Horse Z is more than 3 generations removed from X and Y, they are eligible to breed together)

--

If a foal is created without the consent of the parents' owners:
      - The player who ordered the foal has no say over what happens to it, and is no longer eligible to own that foal
      - The players who own the parents may decide what happens with the foal
      - If the owners of the parents can't decide, or don't care what happens, the foal will be adopted out to the general public

--

Some general links related to breeding/genetics/designing

--

Any colour genes not included in these tutorials will be detailed below, as well as any unique markings to Waldgrave Warmbloods, sorted into 'dominant' or 'recessive' genes. A dominant gene only needs one copy to be present for that gene to be expressed, such as the Grey gene, and is shown with a capital letter when present: G. A recessive gene needs two copies to be present for that gene to be expressed, such as the Flaxen gene, and is shown with a lower-case letter when present: f.

    Dominant:
Bend or Spots (Bo)– partial dominant (more spots in homozygous)
Birdcatcher Spots (Bi)– partial dominant (more spots in homozygous)
Bloody Shoulder (Bl)– dominant dependant (acts only on greys)
Badger Face (Bf)– dominant dependent (needs white marking on face to show)
Pangare (Pn)– dominant dependent (needs red pigment to show)
      Reverse Dapple (Rd)- dominant

    Recessive:
      Brindle (bd)– recessive
      Lacing (lc)– recessive
Gulastra Plume (gp)- recessive dependent (needs black tail hair to act on)
Mushroom (ms)– recessive dependent (acts only in the absence of extension *black pigment*)
Calico (c)- recessive dependent (acts only in presence of tobiano in combination with cream and/or pearl genes)
      Manchado (mn)- recessive
      Giraffe Lacing (gl)- recessive

    Unique:
Inverse (i) - recessive dependent (acts only in presence of paint or appaloosa genes)
      - this gene will cause the horse's white markings to be inverted. For example, in the presence of this gene splash patterned horses (inverse splash) will have white markings along their topline, and leopard appaloosas (inverse leopard) will be covered in white spots

As an owner or fan of Waldgrave Warmbloods, you're invited to partake in breed-restricted shows, where you can win prizes,
earn points for your horses, or work your way towards a custom! There are lots of different things you can do, as showing
is a big aspect of the Waldgrave community. But first, some more rules :P

    About Shows:
      - Waldgraves that are adopted out may enter shows as soon as they have an owner
      - Foals may enter shows 2 weeks after being created
      - Official shows will be held roughly once a month, with the duration for Levels 1-3 shows being that month
      - There will be at least one Level 1 show per month
      - Level 4 and 5 shows will take place over the span of 2 or 3 months, but will only come around twice or three times per year
      - Shows are judged by staff, mods, or volunteers - anyone participating in the show may not act as a judge
      - The winners of a show are decided on a number of factors; each factor is graded by the judges out of 100%, then a weighted average is calculated to determine that Waldgrave's final score
      - Factors and their weights are:
        # of points a horse has in the show's discipline - weighted at 20%
        # of training images/written training the horse has in total - weighted at 10%
        # of training images/written training created for this show - weighted at 30%
Quality/length of images/writing created for this show - weighted at 40%
      - Grammatical/spelling errors in writing will cause your score to lower
      - Inaccurate markings on images will cause your score to lower
      - Each show level's requirements are listed below our section on points - check them out!
      - Meeting each Level's show requirements will give you 50% of a perfect score in each category; perfect scores will be decided based on the best entries for each category
      - Training images can be commissioned, they do not need to be drawn by the owner
      - Written training sessions must be done by the owner
      - A 'Show Thread' will be made for use during monthly shows; here, owners will post their entry forms and any art/writing
      - After a show has been announced, players have 1 week to submit their Entry Form
      - After that week, players will receive an entry number, which they must use when submitting art/writing
      - Art and writing can be submitted until 1 week before the end date - any horses who haven't met the show requirements in that time will be scratched from the competition
      - Judges have until the end date to announce the winners - the distribution of points and prizes may take a little longer, so please be patient
      - Members of the community may organize their own shows, as long as they follow the show guidelines already laid out. These unofficial shows will not count towards points in a horse's discipline, or towards a horse's total show count
      - Unofficial shows may offer other prizes, such as art, pets/C$/offsite currency, breeding slots, etc.
      - The show organizer can choose whether or not to allow retired horses to participate

--

You may have already seen me mention some things about points, and are probably wondering what I mean (or you've participated in an HARPG before and just want me to get on with it). But anyways, points are gained in a variety of ways, and will improve your horse's chances in any shows it enters. The better your Waldgrave's chances, the more likely they are to win more points and possible prizes. Also, if your Waldgrave has a lot of points in a certain discipline, anyone who is looking to breed a foal to compete in that discipline will see your horse as a good candidate - in this way, you can sell or trade slots from your Waldgrave Warmblood more easily than if it has fewer points.

    About Points:
      - When horses are adopted out, part of the form is their specialty - English, Western, Driving, Racing, Team Sports, or Other. If you just specify one of these 6, the horse will receive a small amount of points in all disciplines within that specialty. However, if you choose one discipline (such as showjumping or steeplechase), the horse will receive all its 'starter points' in that one discipline
      - Geldings and sterilized mares gain 10 points in all disciplines
      - Waldgraves also accumulate points by entering in shows:
1st place earns 50% of the points offered
2nd place earns 25% of the points offered
3rd place earns 13% of the points offered
4th place earns 6% of the points offered
5th place earns 3% of the points offered
      - Shows will generally offer 100 points total
      - Special shows, as well as Level 5 shows, are the only shows which may offer over 100 points
-Any horse entered in a show that has fulfilled the requirements, but did not place within the top 5, will earn 1 participation point
      - Show types which contain multiple disciplines (Broad English Shows, or Eventing Shows for example) will distribute the points a horse earns in these shows to all disciplines under the broad show category

-

So now we're at Levels, and this post is starting to get a little lengthy - I should probably just cut to the chase. To begin with, all shows regardless of their discipline, are organized into 5 Levels - these levels vary in difficulty, and have specific requirements that a Waldgrave must meet before entry:

Level 1: These shows are for people who are just starting out! To enter a Level 1 show, a horse must have placed in 5 or fewer shows for that show's discipline - 'placing' in a show means finishing within the top 5 spots.
      Show Requirements:
      - The # of points a horse has in the show's discipline should be 0 or more
      - The # of training images or written training the horse has in total should be 1 or more
      - The # of training images or written training created for this show should be 1 or more
      - Training images for this show should be at LEAST neatly sketched, with all markings being easily recognizable. Lines, colour, shading, backgrounds, and extra characters (such as trainers, riders, etc.) will boost your score
      - Training images for this show must include at least the horse's head
      - Written training sessions for this show should be 2 or more paragraphs

Level 2: For novice horses who have already got a few wins under their belts. To enter a Level 2 show, a horse must have placed in between 5 and 10 shows.
      Show Requirements:
      - # of points a horse has in the show's discipline should be 15 or more
      - # of training images/written training the horse has in total should be 7 or more
      - # of training images/written training created for this show should be 2 or more
      - Training images should be lined and coloured. Shading, backgrounds, and extra characters will boost your score
      - Training images must include at least the horse's bust (from the chest up)
      - Written training sessions should be 3 or more paragraphs

Level 3: Making your way into the big leagues, this level is for intermediate horses. To enter a Level 3 show, a horse must have placed in between 10 and 15 shows.
      Show Requirements:
      - # of points a horse has in the show's discipline should be 30 or more
      - # of training images/written training the horse has in total should be 20 or more
      - # of training images/written training created for this show should be 3 or more
      - Training images should be lined, coloured, and shaded. Backgrounds and extra characters will boost your score
      - Training images must include at least half of the horse
      - Written training sessions should be 4 or more paragraphs

Level 4: You're a pro by now, getting into the advanced shows. To enter a Level 4 show, a horse must have placed in between 15 and 20 shows.
      Show Requirements:
      - # of points a horse has in the show's discipline should be 45 or more
      - # of training images/written training the horse has in total should be 35 or more
      - # of training images/written training created for this show should be 4 or more
      - Training images should be lined, coloured, shaded, and contain either a background or extra characters
      - Training images must include at least half of the horse, simple backgrounds are fine
      - Written training sessions should be 5 or more paragraphs

Level 5: Only the masters compete here, this is a battleground for the elites of Waldgrave Warmbloods. To enter a Level 5 show, a horse must have placed in more than 20 shows.
      Show Requirements:
      - # of points a horse has in the show's discipline should be 60 or more
      - # of training images/written training the horse has in total should be 60 or more
      - # of training images/written training created for this show should be 5 or more
      - Training images should be lined, coloured, shaded, and contain either a background or extra characters
      - Training images must include the entire horse, scenery backgrounds are fine
      - Written training sessions should be 6 or more paragraphs, with at least 1000 words per session

-

Do you want to help with shows, but not participate? Or are you looking to get that perfect Waldgrave to add to your stable? Feel free to volunteer your help during show season, or donate some prizes; it'll be worth your while ;)

    What else can I do?/ I want a custom!:
      - Players who choose to help out with shows can earn Custom Points, which go towards earning semi-custom or custom Waldgraves
      - Donating prizes for shows, such as pets/C$/offsite currency, art, or breeding slots, is another way to earn Custom Points
      - You can earn 1 Custom Point for each type of donation you make - however, pet donations must be rare or higher
      - Helping with a show will earn you 1 Custom Point
      - Semi-customs will cost 10 Custom Points, while full customs will cost 30 Custom Points
      - If a player is helping to judge a show, they must be impartial! Any member of staff or mods who suspect that a player is judging in favor of a friend can revoke that player's Custom Point for the show
      - Semi-customs will start with +20 points in the owner's choice of disciplines, while full customs will start with +50
      - Breed artists are allowed to design only one custom or semi-custom per month (if a person isn't using their Custom Points for one) - this can either be for themselves, for a friend, or someone in the community who they feel is deserving of one
      - Custom breedings are not allowed at this point in time (sorry)

-

So we have shows to earn points, and foals will earn a certain number of points when they're born, but what about when you don't want to show your horse anymore, or have reached your Waldgrave's show limit? Why not participate in the more laid back parades that issue in each new show!

    Retirement and Parades:
      - A Waldgrave Warmblood may enter 100 shows before it must retire
      - Waldgraves may be retired earlier than 100 shows - let a staff member or the artist of your horse know if you'd like to retire them, so an edit or post can be made to the horse's page.
      - Only retired horses may take part in parades
      - Parades give retired horses 1 point in a discipline of the owner's choosing
      - Retired horses participate in parades by being drawn in costume or fancy tack
      - The horse's parade image must be at least lined and coloured, and include at least the horse's bust
      - Only one image is needed to participate in a parade
      - Parades are held alongside shows, and parade submission forms will be available with show entry forms
      - You have until 1 week before the end date of a show to submit a parade form
      - All parade images will be showcased at the end of a show

-

Of course, some players are only interested in design and developing characters, which is perfectly fine! No one needs to participate in shows or earn points to love their Waldgraves; it's just something fun for the community to do as a whole. I'll be looking into the idea of making other events for those of us who aren't as interested in the show aspect, and am willing to take suggestions :)
