many a creature live among us human folk, and one of those many species is that
going by the name of 'skiren' or 'skirens'; sometimes even referred to as 'skifolk'.
they are humanlike in build, although have a cousin that is closer to them than
us; that of the sirens, the ones whom terrorize the sea with their song. it's an
obvious relation, even hinted at from within the names... let's just say the one
who name the species was not too happy with his relationship with a certain
skiren. anyways, skirens are a normal within society. skirens dress like us, they
eat like us - with the exception of some things - and they act like us.

there are a few key differences you must spot when differentiating a skiren
from a human. one, they appear to have different ears which can flatten
against their head and flare up at will, and many will describe them as a large
clump of feathers. second, they have light, bird-like wings; albeit they do not
show their wings all the time: these wings are guarded by a seal - disguised as
a tattoo - somewhere on their body. most of the time the seal is hidden from
view, and the most common place for them to appear is beside each eye. every
seal appears in the form of two wing tattoos. when the skiren releases the seal
on their own command, their wings appear on their back. third, every siren owns
a mask, whether they wear it or not, for having their mask is tradition and rather
important for their health. however, children must have the mask at all times.

much more is still to be learned about the skiren society; some things shrouded in
mystery, and for good reason. one day we humans will discover those secrets and
react accordingly... and that reaction depends on what the secret may depict. one
piece of advice for you; do not anger a skiren, for they may sing you to sleep...
permanently.

general rules of the community

one ; all cs rules apply, and there's no evading 'em.
two ; be polite and refrain from complaining if you didn't win the skiren that you wanted...
just don't be rude, thank you very much. it makes people upset, and I don't want to see
that. this goes for the staff here as well! have some respect.
three ; I do not permit for anyone to sell or trade away their skiren, nor can they make their
own, unless an artist or guest artist. if you no longer wish to own your skiren, pm the artist
to put it up for readoption. this goes for changing the skiren as well; adding clothing is per-
mitted, but changing the overall design isn't.
four ; credit the original artist and myself, for the species and the adopt itself; all of the adopts
here have custom lines. skirens may be brought off-site, but please link it back here.
five ; there is no cap on how many skirens you can own, but don't go around winning every adopt,
for goodness sake. when the community begins to build, I may add a maximum amount you may
own.
six ; do not ask to be a part of the staff. I may be hiring at certain points, but do not ask at any
other time, thank you.

artist and staff rules

one ; just as they are to you, be polite with everyone else. if something is out of hand, PM me
if you cannot handle it. I don't mind!
two ; artists may have a total of three customs in total, moderators and others may have two,
and guest artists are permitted to only have one, even if they've been a guest artist twice.
three ; when creating a skiren, artists must provide a basic form including name, gender, and
personality. from there, they have free rein. although they must provide information on the
skiren themself, such as wing type, mask design, and where the wing seals are located; these
can be used as contest ideas where the user may comes up with one of the three.
four ; judges may not have a bias when judging contests, period.
five ; these rules are subject to change in the future, and more may be added.

how are skirens made?
each skiren is drawn by an artist here, and each has their own custom lines.

what language does a skiren speak?
skirens can speak a variety of languages... well, they can speak any language
they can get their hands on. learning a different tongue is no sweat for a skiren,
since they can imitate syllables, words, and sentences perfectly while keeping
it stored in memory. although they do have their own language mainly spoken
by high-pitched chirps, ear-splitting screeches, and other bird-like sounds.

why do they have masks?
a mask belonging to a skiren is imbued with a magic that aids said creature in
healing, and in maintaining the seal in order for their wings to stay hidden. it's
most commonly used by children - the mask is worn, strapped to their hip, or
other similar things - to aid them in maintaining their seal. a child skiren isn't
very familiar with controlling their seal, and often lose control without their
mask on hand; in this instance, the child's wings would appear and dissapear
at random, which isn't too enjoyable. as a skiren ages, they no longer need
the mask to maintain their seal, and will only use it to heal wounds and ail-
ments; since skirens are immune to all human medicines. although, it's known
that the weakest part of a skiren is their eyes, and as such, is the easiest place
for the magic to enter the body; hence skirens have to wear it for full effect.
