Ymir's Skullehunds
Freya's Eldrcats . Rune Converter
Dating back to a time of ancient Norse mythology, the world was created from the remains of the great giant, Ymir, after a fierce battle. His bones became mountains, teeth shaping rocks, and hair weaving into trees and grass, until his very heart made up the chambers and chasms deep in each gorge. Legend is told that his skull was thrown into the air and became the lid holding the world together, slowly becoming the base for all the detail put into the land like night stars and the sun and moon. It is told the Sol rides her chariot in the burning light of the sun and Mani rides his in the reflection of the moon. Alongside rides Night and Day, but like every good is evil and so Hati and Skoll constantly chase these four horse-drawn chariots, their jaws forever snapping at the horses' ankles. But back on the ground, the first pair of humans were created from ash and elm bark, their names became Ask and Embla.
What is not in the tale is the legend of Ymir's Skullehunds. Back when Ymir was being crafted into the world, his skull cracked upon twisting in the air and out slipped smoke darker than coal. The tendrils went into hiding for centuries, until finally they emerged in canine form, their only tell-tale sign being eye whites as dark as their inner smoke. These wolf-dogs were fierce, as fierce as skoll and hati their selves with hearts rampant after all the time waiting. A war between light and dark ensued, and the world seemed to fall apart. Dark chased out the light, driving creatures of peace into the farthest corners of Ymir's ribcage until Freya, the goddess of love, crafted what is known as Freya's --, who drove the wolves onto the other half of the world. Tensions were never quite erased, and though the world is just beginning to take life again, Ymir's Skullehunds are keen on stopping it.
