Canis Concolor, otherwise known as Zvers, are an alien species that were discovered aboard a crashed space ship. Initially believed to be too vicious to tame, humans have begun to form bonds with these strange beasts, despite warnings from government agents who want them rounded up and exterminated. Despite several attempts, the government has thus far been unable to recapture them and Zvers have begun to breed. Many average joes have set off in search of a Zver to call their very own after hearing rumors that the intelligent creatures could be tamed with a bit of bribery and gentle coaxing. Will you join the hunt?

"Believed to have been injured in the original wreck, this older female is missing half her ear and has one broken sensor. Despite her battered appearance, those who have seen her on a more... personal basis say that she's fairly friendly and docile due to a heavy limp that makes scavenging for food her only means of survival. She's been living in the alleys of a nearby city, often spotted rummaging through trash bins and occasionally making off with scraps from the tables of outdoor restaurants.
Unfortunately, word of her existence has traveled to a group of particularly dangerous bounty hunters who are likely making their way toward her city now. Her only hope for survival rests in the hands of those who might befriend her and get her off the streets and into a safehaven before the bounty hunters arrive and capture her for themselves."

Hnnggggg, guys you don't even know how badly I want to keep this baby. I didn't even realize it until I started typing up the little bit of background information for the contest >.< She has grown on me waaaayyy too quickly, so I'm going to try and make this as painless for me as possible. I want her to go to someone who will love her and be active, so, first requirement is that you need to post on the fanclub. I will be posting important information there anyway so it's nice to have marked, that and it'd be fantastic to help our community grow. Second, you'll need to write up a detailed personality description about her. And third, tell me the story of how you found and befriended her. How you do this is up to you, both in length and medium. Remember she's been on the streets now for years with plenty of human contact but seemingly no desire to bond with any one person. Other than that, you can do whatever else you'd like.
This contest will end on July 14th

Name: Aela
Biological sex: Female
Gender: Agender
Link to your post on the fanclub: My first one!
Personality:
Aela in a Nutshell

This zver is a strategic leader, motivated to organize change. Ey is very quick to see inefficiency and conceptualize new solutions, and enjoys developing long-range plans to accomplish eir vision. Ey excel at logical reasoning and are usually articulate and quick-witted.

Aela is analytical and objective, and likes bringing order to the world around em. When there are flaws in a system, this zver sees them, and enjoys the process of discovering and implementing a better way. Assertive and with a take charge attitude; ey see eir role as that of leader and manager, organizing people and processes to achieve eir goals.

What Makes Ey Tick

Aela is very motivated by success in eir life and enjoys hard work. Ey is ambitious and interested in gaining power and influence in all that ey does. To this zver, decision-making is a vocation. Ey wants to be in a position to make the call and put plans into motion.

Aela is incredibly blunt and decisive. Driven to get things done, ey can sometimes be critical or brusque in the pursuit of a goal. Despite this, ey is typically friendly and outgoing, although ey may not pick up on emotional subleties in people or other zvers. Aela very much enjoys working with others toward a common goal, but may not find time to attend to their feelings. Ey is focused on results and wants to be productive, competent, and influential.

Aela, despite her injuries, is a natural leader, and often takes charge no matter where ey is. Ey typically has a clear vision for the future, and intuitively understands how to move people and processes towards that goal. Ey tends to approach every situation with the attitude of an efficiency analyst, and is far from shy about pointing out what could be done better. For this zver, eir ideas are a foregone conclusion: it’s just a matter of time before ey can move the players to get everything accomplished.

Aela is quite gregarious, and seems to have an idea for how a person will fit into their grand scheme from the moment they are introduced. Ey is direct and may seem presumptuous or even arrogant; ey sizes people and situations up very quickly, and have trouble being anything but honest about what ey sees. Ey is sensitive to issues of power, and seeks positions and people of influence as much as ey can with eir physical limitations.

Story: WIP
The sounds of pursuit rang loudly through the alleyways as he ran. The pounding of his boots against the pavement echoed up the walls, mingling with the shouts of the police officers chasing him. Narrowing his eyes, the slender human took a close look at the alley as he swung into it and ran. Up ahead, he spotted a narrow, dark split in the cement of one of the buildings and with a low grunt he dove for it. He managed to squeeze himself in just as the officers turned the corner and barreled down the alley. He held his breath as they passed his hiding spot, but none of them so much as glanced his direction as they vanished into the city. Breathing heavily from exertion and fear, he stayed where he was as the sounds faded until finally he slowly stepped out. There was no sign of the cops, and so he finally allowed himself to relax and sat down with his back against the building he'd hidden in. With a deep breath, he pulled out the small sandwich that had started all of the trouble. "All I did was take a sandwich and they treat me like I killed someone." Shaking his head, he lifted the food to his mouth and promptly froze.

A strange creature stood before him, it's large eyes unwavering as it sized him up. It had long ears, although one was tattered and looked as if it had been torn apart. It's eyes were blue, as were the small pits that circled them, except for the one that was a deep black in color. The creature had a long muzzle, almost canine in its appearance, but not quite. Its paws were small and neat, almost catlike beneath it, and a large, thick tail completed the package. It was obvious that this was one of those zvers he'd heard mentioned on the news. As he studied the creature, his mind raced as he tried to remember what the newscaster had said about these creatures. Something about them being very intelligent and very dangerous. This one didn't seem too dangerous however. It's eyes quickly shifted from the sandwich in his hands to his face and back again and he suddenly realized why he was being stared at so intently. He carefully tore a piece of it off and offered it to the zver who gently accepted it and devoured it. Once that was done, the creature simply turned its back on him and walked away. "Hmmm." He stared after it for a few moments before he noticed that his phone was vibrating in his pocket. The spell broken, he quickly pulled it out and winced when he saw what time it was. "I'll be home soon. I'm still looking. Yea. Talk to you later." Sighing softly and shaking his head, he turned and carefully made his way back to the market to gather more of what his family needed.

A few hours later, and he finally stumbled through the door of his tiny apartment. His arms were laden with food and supplies that he quickly placed on the old table in the kitchen before he all but fell into bed with his wife. "Rohn?" Her voice was husky with sleep and he gently pulled her close to him. "Sorry I'm so late Lacey. There were officers all over the market today." "How much did you manage to get?" "We'll be ok for a month or so." She murmured happily at that and settled back in to sleep. Rohn, however, was still thinking about the zver he'd found back in that alley. "I saw one of those zver things today." At those words, his wife was wide awake, staring at him in alarm. "You saw one?" "It begged me for some food in one of the alleys I was scoping today. It was odd, being that close. The news people are saying these things are much bigger than they really are. Either that, or this one was small. It had a broken ear." "Oh, her! The townspeople call her Aela. She's been here for years. They say that she was on that ship they found that had the first zver on it, and that's why her ear and that sensor thing are the way they are. Most of the townsfolk feed her." "I gave her a bite of the sandwich I grabbed for lunch. I haven't been able to stop thinking about her." Lacey just shrugged as she settled back in to sleep, leaving Rohn alone with his thoughts. Hours later he finally joined her in sleep, his dreams filled with the zver he'd fed.

The next morning, Lacey woke him as she prepared for her job as a washerwoman. "Rohn, there's some guys in town who say they're hiring! They're in the market talking to anyone who is interested. I don't know what the job is, but it might be worth going to see." A quick agreement and shower later, the man was back in the market he'd stolen from the previous day, looking for the men his wife had mentioned. Finally he spotted them, although their appearance made him want to move in the other direction. These men were obviously bounty hunters, searching for someone who had slighted the one who'd hired them. Shrugging, Rohn made his way over to them to see why they were here. "We've heard tales of a zver prowling the alleys here! My employer has offered sixteen thousand dollars to each of us if we bring him her pelt. The pelt of a zver is unlike anything else you've ever felt or worked with, from what I hear. Thing is, we can't find the stupid thing! That's where y'all come in. We're allowed to hire one more person to join us. The pay is sixteen grand once the zver has been caught and killed. We don't even have to skin it!" Horror flooded Rohn as he listened and realized that the zver he'd met the previous day was in terrible danger. He slowly turned away from the men and made his way towards the alley to attempt to warn her when he caught the last bit of their pitch to get someone to join them. "We wont force anyone to help us. However, if we catch any of y'all hindering us, you will be dealt with. Interfering with the eradication of a zver is a federal offense punishable by death. We figure we'll just skip the federal part and deliver the sentence." The threat was clear, but it did nothing to deter him from wanting to somehow save this creature and he continued towards the alley he'd spotted her in before. He had to warn her. As soon as he knew he was out of sight, Rohn broke into a sprint.

He reached the alley where he'd seen the zver rather quickly and slid to a stop. Chest heaving as he fought for his breath, he searched the small space growing more and more frantic until finally he spotted her. She was curled up behind a large dumpster at the end of the alley, deep in sleep. Rohn carefully stepped closer to her, holding his hand out as he did so. He tried to remember the name his wife had called her as her head lifted and the creature focused on him. Her blue orbits gave nothing away as she slowly got to her paws, although she did let out a low warning growl as he got closer. He ignored it however and rushed to her side. When he reached for her the zver let out a snarl and lashed out, tearing into his arm with her claws. The slices were extremely deep and his bone was playing peek-a-boo. However, he didn't care about the pain as he kneeled before her. "Aela, I don't know if you can understand me or not, but I need to try to warn you. There is a group of humans here that want to kill you. They want to kill you and give your body away to be used. No, Aela listen to me!" As he'd talked, the zver had backed away from him, the fur on her hackles raising. She lifted her lip to bare her fangs at him as a low growl rolled from her throat. It only took a moment before he realized that he'd unintentionally cornered the creature and so he backed away. As soon as the space opened up, Aela leaped through it and turned to face him again. A few moments passed before the zver turned away with another growl and disappeared into the shadows between the buildings.

Rohn took a deep breath and glanced down at his tattered arm. He knew that he needed to get the deep lacerations cared for, but all he could think about was getting that zver out of reach of the bounty hunters. Obviously he wasn't going to be able to physically move her. As he made his way home, his mind was racing with ways to protect Aela. In fact, he was so deeply engrossed in thought that he didn't notice the three bounty hunters fall in behind him until one of them grabbed him and spun him around. "What happened to your arm, friend? Looks like something got you good!" Rohn didn't say anything as he removed himself from the other man's grip and crossed his arms over his chest. The bounty hunter who'd grabbed him lifted an eyebrow as the action sent more blood pouring down his arm. "Almost looks like a cat got you. Or maybe a zver." At that word, Rohn narrowed his eyes and spat at their feet. "If a zver had done this, it would be dead. In fact, if a zver came anywhere near me, it would be dead." The bounty hunter nodded at that and extended a hand to him. "Well then maybe you can help us find the one that lives here. There's sixteen grand in it for you." Rohn narrowed his eyes and tilted his head thoughtfully, pretending to considering their offer. "What do you have to catch the stupid thing? She's wiley and very tricky, like most of those things are." The man who seemed to be the leader of the group gestured to one of his companions as he spoke, "Lysander here used to work with them things up at Dr. Metta's place. He managed to get a couple of the traps and cages they use to catch 'em up there. We figure we can bait them and wait." Rohn nodded, but otherwise remained silent for a few moments. He knew the men would think he was considering their offer, when in fact he was wondering how he could use this to his advantage. "Sixteen grand you say?" A nod was his only answer before he was agreeing to join them. A few handshakes later and he was following them to their truck to help set the traps. Little did his new employers know that he had no intention of handing the zver over to them. No, once he had her in one of their cages the zver would disappear from the face of the planet as far as they knew.

Personality: Isa is a creature of habit. Isa is calm, quiet and thinks everything through. Isa is possessive, controlling, and a loner. Isa makes calculated decisions, meaning she is not fooled easily, and above all Isa is a survivor.

Story:

I reach down under the covers pulling my girl Isa to my chest. "Hey Isa, remember how we met?" I ask her as both out eyes go cloudy as memories of the previous months fill out mind....

I found myself crawling out of my window, down the side of the house and creeping through a dark alley at one am. Everyone told me not to go, told me to stay home and leave it alone. She is different than all the others, she does not want to be a pet. I refused to give into them, I refused to believe it. I shine my flashlight through the alley hearing complete silence. My eyes dart around until they land on exactly what I was looking for. She was scarred, limp and the most beautiful thing I have ever set my eyes on. My eyes lit up ans I instantly crouched down showing no sign of harm. "Isa" I called out quietly...

Peeking around the corner making sure the alley was clear of people I limp towards the trash cans. These ones were good, always had food for me. Making my way to the cans I freeze as a beam of light lands on my fur. I don't turn my head showing no interest in whomever was there. I never did, never cared enough to check. I hoped it wasn't one of the boys who threw rocks at me, or someone here to capture me for good. I twitched my ear slightly as she... it sounded like a she, let out a small whisper. [/i]

Seeing as I was not scaring her I sat down against the concrete my breath coming out white. I rubbed my arms trying to keep myself warm as I watched the magnificent creature before me. I took notes of what she was eating and how she did it. She seemed smart, she opened the cans, climbed the nearby crates and reached down to pull the food out. I held my breath every time she did it, worried she would fall in. After checking the clock I knew it was time to go "I will be back" I call as I rushed off the same direction I came from.

My body relaxes as the girl is gone, I was back to me, myself and I in the alley. Little did I know it would not be the last of the girl. I finished up and made my way back to my cardboard box. It had two towels and a piece of fleece in it, just enough to keep me warm.

Checking my watch I tap my leg against the ground waiting for school to get out. The bell rang and I flew down the steps and out the door. If I raced real quick I could get back to the alley and check on my friend. I turned the corner and stopped in disappointment. Where was she? I sigh as I decide even if she wasn't around I could still help her out....

I shrink back in my box hearing pounding footsteps enter my alley. I peek out seeing the girl and my ears perk in curiosity. What could she be doing back? I tuck my head under my tail until she is gone. I wait until night fall and routinely check the entrance making sure no one is around. I take a step out and walk towards my trash can. I stop whn I see a plate of food on he ground, it was on a towel. I creep closer thinking it was a trick. Nobody leaves fresh fruitjust laying around. Isa, hope you enjoy. -J I study the strange letters on the note and eat the food my belly filling completely. That now became our routine, I got fed twice a day. Once before school and once after school. I got a midnight visit from her, she would sit and watch me. She would draw pictures in that book and hold them up for me to see. I pretended not to care, I rolled my eyes at her silly comments and jokes. I began to realize this was my girl, and she came every day. She never left me hanging, she was always there. Saying the same thing, leaving the same silly notes... Isa...

I sat in the alley like I always did. I could not find her, it was odd. She would always come out by now and check to see what I brought her. Her food plate was untouched and I was growing worried. I leave my seat and began searching the alley. I found my girl curled in the corner trembling. I let out a gasp rushing to her as there was a pool of blood beside her. "Isa---" I crouch down as she flinches at my touch. "Isa, it's okay... It's okay beautiful"I cooed. She lifted her head giving a small whimper as took one tentative step towards me. That was all the permission i needed, I scooped her up and held her. "I will get you home, you are safe with me...I reassured her. I never knew why she ever let me take her, all I knew is I would keep her safe for ever.

The clearest memory was the pain. I remember the boys came back. I broke routine and ran out to meet my girl and the rock throwing began. I took it until they got bored, or called for dinner... or whatever. I remember feeling scared and alone. I remember her approaching me, the soft strokes and her failing attempts to make me feel better. I heard the name she has given me and I ignore her. "Isa, it's okay... It's okay beautiful", I stop looking up at her meekly. Isa...Beautiful, Isa means beautiful... I had finally connected the dots. My head started spinning, she thought I was beautiful. I let her pick me up, I let her take me home, it was the best decision I have ever made. Now... we can be beautiful together.

outer appearance • Jude is rather small and scrawny, with her ribs and hipbones clearly
prominent under her fur when she walks. Her coat is rather dull in colour, so she's often
hard to spot amongst the greys of the city alleys. Her eyes, however, are brightly
coloured and stand out against her fur. Jude looks as though she's been through a
battleground; her left ear is torn almost halfway off, one of her sensors is broken
and blacked out on the same side. She walks slowly due to a heavy limp in her back
right leg. The aforementioned leg scrapes along the ground when she does walk,
and Jude usually sticks it out when she sits or lays down due to it being stiff at the joint.

personality • Living on the streets for most of her life taught Jude that sometimes it's
necessary to steal, sneak and fight her way through life. She's become very independent
during her life, since she's had nobody to have to rely on. This is one of the main
reasons she hasn't bonded to a human yet - she just prefers to only have to rely on
herself. She can be self-sufficient when she has to, and much prefers to go solo.
Of course, this means Jude has to be very cautious when she's out and about. She
is always keeping an eye on everything she does, double and triple checking to
make sure there's no danger around. Maybe she's a bit paranoid, but it's better
safe than captured by bounty hunters, right? She takes her time to warm up to
anyone, but she's fairly friendly once she has - as long as you don't try to
interfere with her. Sometimes she can be a little manipulative in order to get
what she wants. Sometimes you have to suck up to get what you need,
right? Jude doesn't have the best judge of morally right actions, but she
figures her survival is more important than her morals.

    ───────────────────────

Owen Dunne spent six months of his life living under a bridge on the outskirts of the city. He came across many odd things and had multiple strange experiences during this period, but by far the strangest was the introduction of a scraggly young Zver into his life. He met Jude one particularly cold winters night, as he often recalls fondly.

Owen was abruptly torn from his sleep by the sound of a nearby disturbance. He lay there in silence, listening hard for the sound of footsteps or people approaching. When he heard nothing, he relaxed a little and sat up. He was a light sleeper nowadays, so he'd often be woken by something as simple as a bird taking flight from the water beside him. He was currently living under a low bridge, so it wasn't uncommon for people to cross over without even realising Owen was there. That, plus the quietly trickling water that also flowed under the bridge was enough to drown out the sound of Owen's movements to any passers-by.

Owen breathed a heavy sigh as he looked out at the sky. His breath fogged up in the cold air and he tucked his jacket a little tighter around him. Still dark. He wished for a moment that he had some way of telling the time.
    Chff. Chff.
Owen bolted upright again. His suspicions had been correct; he definitely wasn't alone here. He grabbed his makeshift weapon - a big, broken torch taped to a plank of wood - and called, "Um...hello? You here to steal from a homeless guy?"

No response. Owen rolled his eyes. Of course there was no response. However, another shuffling sound came from his right and he whirled around, squinting into the darkness. He gave a loud yelp and dropped his weapon when he saw two bright blue eyes staring back at him. Startled, Owen yelled "Stay back!" and dived towards his weapon, which had rolled down the bank and into the muddy river beds. He scrambled for the weapon and snatched it up before it rolled into the actual water. He pressed the switch and the torch gave him a weak beam of flickery light - something he only used in emergencies. The beam fell upon a strange looking creature. She merged into the dull colours of the concrete, with only her blue eyes giving away her position. Owen recognised the creature immediately - this was a Zver. A supposedly dangerous Zver. The Zver was sniffing around in his few things, probably looking for food.

"Sorry to disappoint buddy, but if there were something there then I'd have eaten it by now," Owen said loudly, startling the Zver. She looked up in alarm and stood prepared to run. Owen moved closer cautiously, and the Zver backed up. He noticed that the creature had a stiff leg that was dragging along the ground as she walked.
That explains the scraping sound, then, Owen thought to himself. The Zver looked more scared than threatening up close. She was wounded and battle scarred, and had clearly been through a lot. And she must have been hungry to come here.

"Hey, listen, you...weird dog. I don't have any food. Shoo," Owen said, waving his arms in the Zver's direction. He gave a heavy sigh when she didn't move. Owen rubbed his eyes wearily, looking once again into the darkness of the early morning. He stopped down and weakly threw a rock at the Zver. She didn't even budge.
"Are you brave or just stubborn? Come on, dog, I just want to go to sleep," he whined, slowly making his way to his bed. He had a warm pile of scraggly blankets there and he sure as hell wasn't letting this Zver get them. When he reached the bed, the Zver didn't seem to be showing any signs of aggression, so he flopped down and eyed her carefully.

"You guys have human buddies, don't you? Where's yours?" he asked the Zver. "Are you friendly?"
He temderly stretched one hand out to see if the Zver would bite his fingers off. He gently placed it on her nose and smiled. "Very friendly. Must have a nice home. Now go back to it."
Owen pulled the blankets over him, satisfied he wasn't going to be eaten in his sleep, and attempted to get at least a few more hours of sleep. That was, of course, until the whining started.

Owen rolled over and watched the Zver with mild amusement as she began to whine loudly, staring at his blanket pile all the while.
"Cold, huh?" he asked, raising an eyebrow. The Zver stopped whining and looked up at him.
"Yeah. You and me both, buddy. I ain't sharing, you probably have fleas," he laughed, slumping back against the wall. "And don't give me that face. I love dogs, you're making me feel guilty."
The Zver started whining again and Owen sighed, blocking his ears with the blanket and squeezing his eyes shut. He felt the makeshift bed move, and a heavy mass dropped down beside him. Owen flicked his eyes open in mild annoyance, but softened when he saw the skinny little thing curled up on the blankets by his feet.

She wasnt hurting him, Owen supposed. Plus is was nice to have the warmth by his feet...
"Just this once," Owen said. The Zver pricked her ears up and huffed in response. Owen grinned and closed his eyes, sharing the Zver's warmth while it was there.
