Story: I reach down under the covers pulling my girl Isa to my chest. "Hey Isa, remember how we met?" I ask her as both out eyes go cloudy as memories of the previous months fill out mind....I found myself crawling out of my window, down the side of the house and creeping through a dark alley at one am. Everyone told me not to go, told me to stay home and leave it alone. She is different than all the others, she does not want to be a pet. I refused to give into them, I refused to believe it. I shine my flashlight through the alley hearing complete silence. My eyes dart around until they land on exactly what I was looking for. She was scarred, limp and the most beautiful thing I have ever set my eyes on. My eyes lit up ans I instantly crouched down showing no sign of harm. "Isa" I called out quietly...Peeking around the corner making sure the alley was clear of people I limp towards the trash cans. These ones were good, always had food for me. Making my way to the cans I freeze as a beam of light lands on my fur. I don't turn my head showing no interest in whomever was there. I never did, never cared enough to check. I hoped it wasn't one of the boys who threw rocks at me, or someone here to capture me for good. I twitched my ear slightly as she... it sounded like a she, let out a small whisper. [/i]
Seeing as I was not scaring her I sat down against the concrete my breath coming out white. I rubbed my arms trying to keep myself warm as I watched the magnificent creature before me. I took notes of what she was eating and how she did it. She seemed smart, she opened the cans, climbed the nearby crates and reached down to pull the food out. I held my breath every time she did it, worried she would fall in. After checking the clock I knew it was time to go "I will be back" I call as I rushed off the same direction I came from.
My body relaxes as the girl is gone, I was back to me, myself and I in the alley. Little did I know it would not be the last of the girl. I finished up and made my way back to my cardboard box. It had two towels and a piece of fleece in it, just enough to keep me warm.
Checking my watch I tap my leg against the ground waiting for school to get out. The bell rang and I flew down the steps and out the door. If I raced real quick I could get back to the alley and check on my friend. I turned the corner and stopped in disappointment. Where was she? I sigh as I decide even if she wasn't around I could still help her out.... I shrink back in my box hearing pounding footsteps enter my alley. I peek out seeing the girl and my ears perk in curiosity. What could she be doing back? I tuck my head under my tail until she is gone. I wait until night fall and routinely check the entrance making sure no one is around. I take a step out and walk towards my trash can. I stop whn I see a plate of food on he ground, it was on a towel. I creep closer thinking it was a trick. Nobody leaves fresh fruitjust laying around.
Isa, hope you enjoy. -J I study the strange letters on the note and eat the food my belly filling completely. That now became our routine, I got fed twice a day. Once before school and once after school. I got a midnight visit from her, she would sit and watch me. She would draw pictures in that book and hold them up for me to see. I pretended not to care, I rolled my eyes at her silly comments and jokes. I began to realize this was my girl, and she came every day. She never left me hanging, she was always there. Saying the same thing, leaving the same silly notes... Isa...
I sat in the alley like I always did. I could not find her, it was odd. She would always come out by now and check to see what I brought her. Her food plate was untouched and I was growing worried. I leave my seat and began searching the alley. I found my girl curled in the corner trembling. I let out a gasp rushing to her as there was a pool of blood beside her. "Isa---" I crouch down as she flinches at my touch. "Isa, it's okay... It's okay beautiful"I cooed. She lifted her head giving a small whimper as took one tentative step towards me. That was all the permission i needed, I scooped her up and held her. "I will get you home, you are safe with me...I reassured her. I never knew why she ever let me take her, all I knew is I would keep her safe for ever. The clearest memory was the pain. I remember the boys came back. I broke routine and ran out to meet my girl and the rock throwing began. I took it until they got bored, or called for dinner... or whatever. I remember feeling scared and alone. I remember her approaching me, the soft strokes and her failing attempts to make me feel better. I heard the name she has given me and I ignore her.
"Isa, it's okay... It's okay beautiful", I stop looking up at her meekly. Isa...Beautiful, Isa means beautiful... I had finally connected the dots. My head started spinning, she thought I was beautiful. I let her pick me up, I let her take me home, it was the best decision I have ever made. Now... we can be beautiful together.
