I lovveee drawing wings, and I know people tend to struggle with them sometimes, so here's a tutorial! Instructions are located in this part of the post.
1. Start with the skeletal form of the wing, a good way to imagine this is by looking at your arm and bending it (Bird wings tend to bend like a human arm, so it's really good for referencing!) The first 3 points should form a sort of 'V' shape (Unless it's really spread out) and the last point should be far away, give room for those long feathers!
2. Add in muscle guidelines, the part in between the 'V' should be a curve, NEVER a sharp bend. The muscle part connecting to the first and second points should have thicker and shorter feathers while the muscle connecting to the second and fourth point should contain the longer and thinner feathers.
3. Add guidelines as to where you would have layers of feathers. The primary and secondary feathers are located near the top of the wing (Primary being the yellow part and secondary being the green part) and are generally small and short. The tertiary feathers, blue part, is where the bigger feathers are and contain longer or thicker ones.
4. Erase any guidelines needed and add the feathers! As you can see from the muscle and layer guidelines there is parts where the long and short feathers separate as well as the secondary and tertiary separate. There are different kinds of feathers, I've drawn 2 on the Oekaki if you want to try those out. nvn
Your turn! Try to draw a bird wing! c:
