First Touch

First Touch wrote:
I had been keeping an eye on Roselyn all night, waiting for her to give birth.
I let Apollo stay in the stall next to hers that night. It was real foggy and chilly so I had shut all the barn
doors, and set a small heater in the middle of the stables on a table away from any hay.

It was time... After waiting a about 2 hours that night, she was ready to give birth. I stayed by in case anything
were to go wrong. The foal was born, and everything had gone smoothly. I walked into Roselyn's stall slowly
to introduce myself to her new colt. He was just stunning. I reach out to stroke him. He's going to grow up
as a very bonded, and easy to train fellow.

I hugged the Mare, and gave her a sugar cube. Apollo shoved his head over into Roselyn's stall, begging for
a sugar cube. "You deserve it boy. You and Roselyn make a great pairing, and have a lovely colt, as your first."
I knelt down by the colt and rubbed him down with a cloth. I offered the colt a sugar cube. I stroked him for awhile
and helped him to his mother to nurse. He nursed for awhile, and seemed to have gotten very sleepy. I went to the tack room to gather a small blanket I could put on him. I gave the colt a hug and watched him go to sleep.

After sitting there with Roselyn and her Colt I was thinking of names. The name Sonny popped into my head. "It's perfect.
Sonny is the name." I went back to the tack room to get a blanket for each of the Neravontiis as for it's a cold night and I can't leave the heater on over night while no supervision.

First Saddle

First Saddle wrote:Over the many Months I thought Sonny cool tricks and bonded.
Because I've thought him over the time he's calm about everything, and I've found him to be very logical like his mother.
He is easy to work with as long as your calm, and gentle. He doesn't like drama and is happy as long as you are.

It was time I get him used to a saddle, as for for Many Months I've thought him the things appropriate for his ages as time
had passed. He is allot like his parents, and since he's had a head start, it just might make saddling and riding very easy,
for the first so on.

I clip Sonny's lead to his halt and lead him out of his stall. I tied him then went to gather his parents and tied them on either side.
I went to grab a saddle and saddle Apollo infront of him. Apollo never really liked saddles but very respectful. I went for another Saddle but this time it was one specially for Sonny. I set the saddle in front of the young stallion. I let him sniff it as I saddled up
Roselyn in front of him like I did Apollo.

After I finished with Roselyn I walked back over to Sonny to pick up his saddle blanket. I let him sniff it before rubbing it across his
shoulders. I dropped it over his back and moved it up his neck lightly and back down to his rump. I pulled it off then let him sniff it again. He was calm because I had done practices like this but with a plastic and cans to get him used to loud noises.

I set the blanket in place on him, and grabbed the saddle. Just the thing he's not quite used to is weight on his back.
I held it by his chest, and moved it slowly to his back. I gave it a big swing and propped it onto his back. With a big
leap back, Sonny reared. "Shhh, sorry boy, lets give it another try."

I let him settle for a minute before putting the blanket back on his back, and let him sniff the saddle again.
I this time had a bucket to stand on so I could set the saddle on him, and hopefully not startle
him this time. I let him sit with the saddle on him back for about 10 minutes. After he had a long time to sniff it out,
and time to just relax, I went over to fasten the saddle to him.

He didn't spook and stayed calmed. So I untied him and walked him to the round pen and did some Longing practiced.
I even added weight to his saddle leaning over to the other side. I'd pat him as I lean over. I then dropped to the ground
and let him run as I gave him a few demands.

First Ride

First Ride wrote:
After about a good 2 hours of teaching him demands, and pressure. I got him more prepared
to actually be mounted. I had already thought him the signals, and tons of tricks. I even added weight to
his back by tying a sack of flour to his saddle. I lead him to the gate, and gave him a good push on the saddle.
He had almost lost his balance so I let him gather it before I pushed the saddle again. Nice and firm, so I
slipped my foot into the Stirrup, and swung my other leg over his back.

I sat on his back for a good 5 minutes, repeating the steps I had used on every Neravontii of mine. I reached
for his ears and rump, and both sides reaching for my toes. I finally gave him a signal to walk on. He was close to
bucking, but I gave him a small pat on the neck and slowed him down. I pulled on the left rein to make him turn his head.
I did the same for the left. I repeated this, and then offered him a sugar cube, after a couple minutes of this exercise.
I then practiced some tricks I had thought him. I gave a light pressure with my left leg and pulled lightly on the reins.
He slowly moved to the Right. I did the same for the other direction. I finally made him walk on again, after
doing small things, getting him used to the weight.

After about 20 minutes of small bucks and rearing, he was as calm as a Neravontii that been ridden for many years. I
decided it was time to give him a break. I dismounted, and lead him to the stables to unsaddle him. I then
brushed him down a bit, then released him in the paddock with the rest of the Neravontiis.
