Above you see our mascot, Oneiroi.
Yes I did take some inspiration from Invader Zim, thank you very much. I mashed that inspiration together with another species idea I had and this happened xD

Magic Weavers are an alien species only recently discovered. They come from a faraway planet called Mythica where they are one of the dominant species. They are highly intelligent and communicate telepathically, being otherwise completely silent creatures. Weavers can be any colors, and often have glowing markings, but diluted and ‘natural’ colors seem to be less common, perhaps because of the influence of magic. Their magical smoke is most often two colors, with one being uncommon and three or more being rare. It seems Weavers with only one color smoke tend to be looked down upon or pitied by others, due to their more limited magical abilities, while those with three or more colors tend to be highly respected. Their bodies are slender and comparable to the anatomy of a canine, though they grow as large as horses. They typically have smooth, snake-like skin; though certain specimens may have fur, it is much less common. Their heads are hard and smooth, like bone, with no discernible skin, and have only two large holes through which the eyes can be seen, appearing much like a mask.
Two antennae-like appendages protrude from the back of their ‘mask’, covered in the same skin (or fur) as most of their body. They are able to move these slightly, they often twitch during telepathic communication with them and so it is believed that they are the source of their telepathy. It also appears that the genders are separated in appearance only by these antennae, the females’ are curled while the males’ are relatively straight. Though Magic Weavers are otherwise indistinguishable, having no other gender specific traits, it has been noted that those with curled antennae have higher pitched, more feminine ‘mind voices’ during telepathic communication while those with straight antennae have deeper, more masculine ‘mind voices’.
Their eyes are almost completely black, but for what appear to be glowing pupils. They appear to have no mouth or nose and possibly breathe through their skin. They have long tails, ending in a large jewel-like orb that glows when they are feeding, leading researchers to believe the orb acts as a sort of ‘mouth’, absorbing the energy of those they prey upon. Four insect-like arms grow from their backs, made of the same hard, smooth material as their ‘masks’, the tips of which are quite sharp and can be used in self defense, but are generally only used for the weaving which they are named for.
They use these arms to whisk about the strange smoke-like substance that is constantly emitted from beneath their ‘masks’ and from the orb on their tail, weaving complex shapes and designs through the smoke that somehow serves to activate whatever magic deed they are trying to accomplish. It has been theorized that this is the excess life energy they consume, but as one cannot capture a sample of the smoke (it disappears when not mysteriously bound to a Magic Weaver) it is hard to say just what it is. However, the color/s of the smoke dictate what sort of magic the Weaver can use, though all Weavers are capable of Life Creation magic, which is incredibly difficult and can only be successfully performed with two Weavers working together (this is only used to produce children).
They consume nothing but energy, essentially life essence. This can be harmless to their prey so long as they do not take too much at once, for it replenishes itself with time and rest, but taking too much can lead their prey to become sick or even die. Some Weavers do not care if they kill their prey, others are more conscientious, it all depends on the individual personality. Magic Weavers of course have their own life energy, but their magic is fueled by it, consumed, and therefore they are in need of more energy than they produce if they wish to use their magic.
The Three Subspecies
Common Magic Weaver - The Common variety are as described above, with smooth, almost snake-like skin, though they do not shed it as snakes do. They are, as their name suggests, by far the most common variety of Magic Weaver and are spread throughout Mythica. They do not fare well in extreme cold and therefore are very rarely found in the far north or south or in mountainous areas. They are the most territorial of the varieties, claiming a Territory for themselves and their families and willing to defend it in battle against other Weaver Clans. Common Weaver Clans may contain as many as 50 Weavers (though so many is very rare) but more typically contain 10-30 members, most generally related or mated to each other. On occasion a Mountain Magic Weaver might join a Clan, typically if they have taken a Common Weaver as a mate since they do better in more temperate climates than Common Weavers would in the mountains. Common Weavers are fairly stationary compared to the other varieties, keeping a densite or camp where most members of the Clan come back to sleep and live together, keeping any belongings there where a few members of the Clan will always be around to watch if the others wander off for a few days to hunt and ensure their borders are safe.
Mountain Magic Weaver - The Mountain variety are well adapted to higher altitudes, colder weather, and rougher terrain. They bear short fur instead of the typical smooth skin. They are uncommon due to the lesser amounts of prey at higher altitudes and have been known to wander down from the mountains during the winter and actually have a decent amount of interaction with both Polar and Common Magic Weavers. They tend to be solitary or live in small family groups of no more than 5-10 members. They generally have a summer and a winter home that they migrate between during the year, staying high in the mountains during the warmer months and migrating down as the cold sets in, claiming a large Territory that sometimes overlaps with other Weaver Territory, which helps them meet others should they wish to find a mate.
Polar Magic Weaver - The Polar variety are well adapted to the harsher, colder landscape of the frozen polar regions on Mythica, similar to the poles of Earth, though generally warmer by an average of 10 degrees. They bear long, thick fur instead of the typical smooth skin and are very solitary and rare due to the lack of abundant prey sources in the polar regions, though may travel with a mate and a child if they are currently raising one. They are found strictly at the North and South poles of Mythica and very rarely leave as they do not fare as well in warmer climates, though they may migrate toward warmer areas during the winter as they are highly migratory to begin with. Unlike the other varieties, they do not claim Territories and simply go wherever prey can be found. They most often interact with Mountain Magic Weavers and rarely come into contact with Common Magic Weavers.
Smoke Color Powers
All colors are of equal rarity.
Black - Shadow/Illusion.
- Can create and control shadows and make them into solid tangible objects harder than diamond or soft and flexible like rubber, shadowphase (travel through shadows and darkness), and use shadows to shapeshift themselves (by building a 'suit' of shadow around them and shaping it to their desires). Shadow also has the ability to absorb light and take on the colors of anything around it, creating illusions.
- Can create and control stones and metal of all sorts, including gemstones.
- Can create and control ice and snow. Can also freeze things.
- Can create and control plants, soil, and sand. They can make soil rich and fertile or completely barren. They can make plants grow in the unlikeliest of places or wither and die even with all the right care. They are able to speak with plants.
- Can create and control fire and light. They have both flames and lasers at their command and can make things glow and bend light to turn themselves or others invisible. They can also melt things.
- Can create and control the wind and manipulate gravity. They can appear to fly simply by manipulating gravity around them. This power over gravity also gives them a form of telekinesis.
- Can create and control electricity and manipulate magnetism. Magnetism gives them limited telekinetic ability (over only metallic objects).
- Can create and control various poisons and acids. They are immune to all poisons and venoms and unaffected by any acid.
- Can create and control water and has vast healing abilities.
- Can control the minds of other creatures (NOT other Weavers) and often have dreams and visions about the future or the past. They have the ability to induce visions through their weaving, but cannot control what they might see.
- Can travel through time and teleport to any place they desire. This power is the most taxing of all, they are only able to use it on themselves and one other at a time. They also must consume higher amounts of life energy than Weavers with other powers, should they use this power often.
