What Thanksgiving means to him;;
Thanksgiving is about family getting together and putting quarrels aside to have one day without any fighting - or, that's what he'd like it to mean. When his family does get together there's usually a spat about something, because his family members simply won't let bygones be bygones, and are soon at each other's throats. He can't stand the fighting that always ensues, so he usually finds a secluded space, curls up into a ball, and tries to sleep. He always sleeps his troubles away, and he finds that when he wakes up he's calmer and less stressed out by whatever is happening. Falling asleep amongst bickering, yelling family members can be difficult, but Gerard has mastered the art of blocking others out, so it isn't as difficult as one would expect it to be for him to fall asleep most anywhere. One year, Gerard was so sick of the fighting he managed to sneak out of the house without anyone noticing him leave. He went to his neighbor's house, where he then celebrated a nice Thanksgiving Day with them, with minimal spats and no yelling involved. Unfortunately, when he got home his family wasn't happy at him at all, and thus started yelling even more. Gerard has had to put up with a lot over the years, and longs for the day he can move out and be free of the angry family with which he resides. He hopes one day to have a proper Thanksgiving with enough food on the table to go around, and no one fighting over scraps. He hopes that the proper Thanksgiving will have minimal spats - if any at all - and loving people gathered 'round to enjoy a happy holiday. For now, though, he has accepted his miserable fate at face value - he acknowledges that he can't change what goes on in his family, and he plans on leaving such a depressing home-life soon.
