About:
History:
For years, mysterious beings have traveled around the world, evading human knowledge, living in fierce forests and secret plains. However, due to expanding human civilizations, they could not hide forever. One herd was spotted, and a group of intrigued scientists began trying to find more herds. About a year ago, the first herd was found, filed under a new species name, and captured for research purposes. The species was named Planetary Equines, due to the planet-like globes that float around the creatures' tails. Once discovered by the public, the species became very popular. Scientists recently began allowing Planetary Equines to be sold to the public due to their generally happy and eager to please disposition.
Appearance & General Information:
Planetary Equines grow to be about 20 - 24 hands, significantly larger than an average equine. Females are typically smaller than males, and foals are born at about 5 hands. Foals reach adolescence at age 7. The typical life span is 150 years, much longer than most mammals. Planetary Equines are born by themselves, twins are extremely rare. Males have ram-like horns, used to headbutt potential predators with, while females do not. Planetary Equines sport typical equine colors and markings, but scientists have recently classified their coat colors into a rarity list, which can be found below. If a coat color is not on the rarity list, it will not occur on a PE.
The globes that float around a PE's tail are their most distinctive characteristic. They may have anywhere from 1 - 6 planets. The more planets a PE has, the higher its ranking. These globes are literally planets -- each has its own ecosystem. It is a PE's job to protect these planets - if one is broken or lost, the PE's remaining planets will become black, and the PE will be banished from their herd.
Behavior:
Planetary Equines travel in herds of 8 to 15. Each herd has an alpha male and an alpha female. Planetary Equine herds work similar to a typical wild Mustang herd. {Information on wild horse behavior can be found here.} PE's live in forest or plain biomes, although they are hardy and can live most anywhere. PE's graze on wild grasses, and are strictly herbivores. They spook easily, and are targeted by most predators, such as cougars or wolves. Their flight instinct is very strong, therefore they are hard to "break" or tame.
Rarities:
Planetary Equines sport typical equine colors and markings, but scientists have recently classified their coat colors into a rarity list. If a coat color is not on the rarity list, it will not occur on a PE.
