The sound of the truck pulling up was followed by the protesting sound of the mare contained inside. The horse they had already named Ohana Smoke had gotten her name for two reasons, the first being they had heard about her ten month old foal she had been separated from, the second being the grulla, smoke colour of her coat, that and the amount of dust she had put in the air when trying to be loaded, therefore putting them together, and you had the Ohana Smoke that everyone around here had been talking about.
There were mixed feelings and doubts about having a new horse around here, Fears that some of the previous more wild horses would turn again at seeing the new feisty spirit, and worries that the mare could potentially injure herself or another. Apart from all of the concerns, the excitement was buzzing around, even the horses seemed to be picking up on it, a few standing by fences with their curious heads bobbled over to see the newest addition.
The young man set to be training the horse, Cole Bruton moved to let the mare out, murmuring words under his breath to make himself feel better as much as anyone around him. He had been here around six months now, after being declared a risk to himself and others for his actions, he had been sent out here to stay, almost as some sort of recovery. The people who had been good enough to take him in had seen his own feisty spirit, entering him in this mustang makeover to see if two broken hearts could heal each other. While Ohana had lost her foal; Cole had lost his whole family. He'd lost his mother, father and sister to a car crash, something he still couldn't quite get over. Having escaped with nothing more than a few cuts and bruises, he found it hard to believe. The only remains of it now were minor scars which hadn't healed, nothing to be worried about.
Upon opening the doors Cole was too slow to jump back out of the way, the mare just barging her way through him to get out into the small, yet large enough for her to stretch her legs pasture. Quickly picking himself up off of the ground the boy scolded himself for getting distracted, knowing more than anyone this wasn't something to just act a fool with. He was determined to show this mare a good to people, as much as he was determined to show himself that he could pull through everything which had happened over the course of the last few months.

"Your ok Ohana, no one is going to hurt you." Cole murmured, holding up the blanket for the mare to sniff. She was snorting her disagreement to his words. Over the past two weeks he had been working with the mare on basic things, at least now able to approach without her completely freaking out on him. Humming the tune to It's A Small World Afterall, Colton set the blanket on her back, rewarding her by setting a small pile of oats on the shelve like piece of wood he had added, due to the mare still being doubtful about taking food from his hands. He stepped aside to lift the sack of potatoes, setting it down infront of the mare, his tune now changed to Cotton Eyed Joe. He'd learnt that humming seemed to calm the mare, and it really was the least he could do for what he was about to do next.
Grinning widely Cole lifted the sack of potatoes back up, setting them over her back but very careful not to put the weight on her just yet. After having the custom-made belt secured around her to keep them on, he let go. The instance the weight was on the mares back she give a whinny of pure annoyance and fear, jumping up to try and kick them off. Colton not being stupid moved to hop back up on the fence, watching as the mare threw herself around, biting his lip in waiting for the potato sack to come flying through the air.
A few minutes of the mare thrashing around and she was finally settling, or at least enough to stop. Colton moved over to the shelf once again, setting down another handful of oats. When she came over to retrieve it he smiled, moving a hand carefully forward to run through her mane, the horse shivering at the contact, but letting him continue so he was able to pull off the potatoes and blanket, rubbing a hand along her rump as she trotted a little further from him.
