━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━SPECIES INFORMATION━━━━━━
social behaviors
Glowsprites are mostly solitary animals. Despite this, sometimes they live in groups containing between two to three individuals.
life in the waters
Glowsprites are semi-aquatic animals and they generally live in dark and damp caves with deep bodies of water hidden within them. They do not have gills, however, they can hold their breath for up to 15 minutes. They do have webbed feet to help swim, antennas to help navigate dark waters, and fur to insulate in the freezing water temperatures. Glowsprites are very sensitive to vibrations, both in and out of water.
life expectancy
Glowsprites are very long-lived animals, living up to 70 years.
communication
Glowsprites communicate via clicking noises they make both under water and above water. When in the water, they do not need to open their mouths to "speak" as the clicks "echo" in water.
friend or foe
Glowsprite's flap of skin you see around their tails open like a flower and glow inside. They use this to scare off predators or show off to potential mates. This is called flowering -- it can be seen here. (it's also a gift art colour in) Some have skin that literally looks like a flower, which makes this name more fitting. Both females and males do this.
mating behaviors and offspring
Glowsprites do not mate exclusively, though some choose to. They'll generally stay with a mate for four months, to eight years at a time. They are a type of mammal, however, they lay eggs much like a platypus. Glowsprites only produce one offspring at a time. Very rarely, they will produce two. The mother feeds the pups milk when they hatch until they're 2 months old and need to be weaned. The pups can take up to 8 years to full mature into a full grown Glowsprite.
diet
Glowsprites are omnivores and can eat pretty much anything they please; though an individual will sometimes prefer one type of food rather than a wide variety.
average measurements
Glowsprites are normally around the size of German Shepherds. 50-65 cm in height, and 65-85 lbs in weight.
pixie syndrome
Glowsprites sometimes get a disease known as "pixie syndrome." In short, it means they do not grow larger than a small pup. These Glowsprites cannot produce offspring, being unable to breed since in pure essence, they are just a juvenile.
