WILD HORSE ROLEPLAY

STATUS: WIP! RP IS UNDER CONSTRUCTION!

OWNER: horse . -> offline

Image

It lies beyond the Western Pines
Towards the sinking sun,
And not a survey mark defines
The bounds of "Brumby's Run".

On odds and ends of mountain land,
On tracks of range and rock
Where no one else can make a stand,
Old Brumby rears his stock.

A wild, unhandled lot they are
Of every shape and breed.
They venture out 'neath moon and star
Along the flats to feed;

But when the dawn makes pink the sky
And steals along the plain,
The Brumby horses turn and fly
Towards the hills again.

The traveller by the mountain-track
May hear their hoof-beats pass,
And catch a glimpse of brown and black
Dim shadows on the grass.

The eager stockhorse pricks his ears
And lifts his head on high
In wild excitement when he hears
The Brumby mob go by.

Old Brumby asks no price or fee
O'er all his wide domains:
The man who yards his stock is free
To keep them for his pains.

So, off to scour the mountain-side
With eager eyes aglow,
To strongholds where the wild mobs hide
The gully-rakers go.

A rush of horses through the trees,
A red shirt making play;
A sound of stockwhips on the breeze,
They vanish far away!

- A.B. "Banjo" Paterson

The breeze blew gently, between your pricked ears, nostrils flared and tail raised, head stuck up, sniffing the sweet mountain air. You are wild. A wild horse. An Australian wild horse. Known to some as the "natives", but to most, Pests, or money making animals.. You have to fight for your life, and not just occasionally - Every Single Day!

The world can be harsh, and the weather too. You live up in the Australian Mountains most of the time, but when times get harder and food and water more scarce, you must learn to survive.

How will you survive?

Rules

Image

███████████████████████████████████████████████████████████████████████████████

General Rules
Please follow ALL of the rules.

Chicken Smoothie Roleplaying Rules
Everybody should have read the roleplaying rules, they are displayed around the Chicken Smoothie Forum. If by chance you haven't read the rules for roleplaying in this section (or in general roleplaying on CS) I will put links below. The links take you directly to the rules that you MUST read before joining this roleplay, and any other roleplay I assume.

Links:

http://www.chickensmoothie.com/Forum/viewtopic.php?f=65&t=1066575
The link above takes you to: "Dog-fight or Puppy-Mill RPs are no longer allowed." thread.

http://www.chickensmoothie.com/Forum/viewtopic.php?f=65&t=1947371
The link above takes you to: "Roleplay rules for ALL animal-based roleplays - MUST READ" thread.

Literacy and Realism

This roleplay is 100% realistic, and there will not be any oddities to the characters, or strange things happening. No weird coat colours, or wings/horns or odd coloured eyes. -- The roleplay is semi-literate to literate. That means I expect at least THREE descriptive sentences for each post. I will make an exeption of WB (writers block) on every second page. Please make sure you have complete grammer, sentences make sense, and punctuation is correctly in place.

Characteristics / Behavior in wild horses

I cannot stress enough about this rule, so I have added it. In a realistic world, wild horses aren't fearless, or necessarily savage animals. They tend to use "flight" instead of "fight". Stallion fight each other for mares, and rarely mares have a choice in anything. Mares tend to quarrel (fight) other mares in a harem or band for the position of lead mare. Now, all a lead mare does is lead the herd to safety, feed areas, water and possibly other areas. She is NOT the Stallion's favourite, nor is any other mare. I'm assuming you get the picture? Great! Continue reading

Character Forms

I am not going to write up a simple form for users who want to be lazy and sloppy. I want you to show me why your joining my roleplay, and if your really capable of this maturity. Please only use one image per character. Use realisic images, and make sure to credit the original owner of pictures. In each form please write at least two full SENTENCES in the Personality part of the form, and in the History I would like 3 full SENTENCES. In case you haven't already noticed, this roleplay is intended for mature people who have roleplayed for quite a while, and who know about horses...

Character Genders

For the first characters you make to join this roleplay you are required to create a mare and a stallion. After you make two different gendered horses you are free to make slightly uneven genders. Please try and keep genders a little even however, though, there should be more mares then stallions - preferably.

Starting out Roleplaying

Each individual character begins the roleplay as a loner or bachelour - note: generally mares, young or old, and colts are loners. But Stallions are Bachelours. Please do not have any of your characters in the band/harem of another one of your own horses, and there is only ONE stallion per band/harem.

Draft Breeds or Ponies

I would prefer if you did not roleplay with draft breeds (i.g clydesdales, shire horses, percheron etc.). I would also prefer if you didn't have pony breeds, by this I mean Shetlands, minatures etc... Brumby horses aren't overly large, but they aren't THAT small.

Horse Language/Body Language

Although body language is preferred - and even encouraged, I will allow dialogue (speech) in the roleplay.

Breeding and Foaling

During certain seasons mares come into heat, there are four (technically five - 0-5) stages of a mares heat cycle, they are the following:

0 - Not interested in stallion. Will fight, not allow stallion to breed.
1 - Still not interested, will still fight, but slightly less.
2 - Slightly interested in stallion, will still fight though.
3 - More interested, rarely puts up much of a fight.
4 - 100% interested, will allow stallion to breed, no fighting.

Amount of Roleplaying without Me (OWNER)

I will allow other roleplayers to go ahead roleplaying if I go offline. But only for a maximum of five pages. If you go over ten pages without me, you will be warned once. That specific warning will go away after roleplaying actively another ten pages with the owner (me) or a roleplay mod online.

No God-Modeling / Be fair to users-roleplayers

God-Modeling is when you make your character more important then others, stronger, faster, better in any way. I will NOT allow this in any of my roleplays. As it is very unfair. Another form of God-Modeling is known as "Mary/Gary-Sues". I have no clue of why it is called that, but I have read it is when your character is supposedly perfect, always wins fights, never gets into trouble and is loved by everyone. Please, refrain from getting your character titled this, as after a certain amount of this you will be warned once.

Roleplayer Activity

I will not tolerate inactive members of this roleplay. I will be VERY strict on this rule. If you haven't posted within a week without notice you will be warned and sent a private message. Please post at least three times every week. Post with your active characters, and if some of your characters have not been active I may (or may not...) have to remove them. They will be able to be recreated, but you would have to repost/redo the form again.

Stallions, Mares and Bands/Harems

Other stallions can only snake mares from bands if that band stallion is online. Mares rarely put up a fight and cannot do anything, they may try to go back to their other stallion however! A band/harm consists of 1-6 mares (sometimes more) and a single stallion.

Adding New Characters

Some roleplayers may (or may not) want more then the two starting horses you will create. If you do, please go into your original characters post and create the new characters below them, once finished, please private message (PM) me to announce the new characters you have made. You may NOT begin roleplaying without being accepted.

Wild Horses Age

There comes a time where wild horses will move away from their band (or if loner..) and become deceased. The maximum age limit to the wild horses in this roleplay is 25 year's old. Please do not go above that age, it would be a miracle if your horse live to even that age. If they do reach that age, please let the horse(s) slip away peacefully and humanely.

Wild Horse Facts

Image

███████████████████████████████████████████████████████████████████████████████

A band, or herd of horses consists of a single stallion and a few mares and foals. Once a filly or colt becomes two years old, they are kicked out of their herd to prevent inbreeding though sometimes fillies are
allowed to stay longer.

Lead mares are not the stallion's favorite and are not chosen by the stallion. The lead mare is the most dominant mare, usually the oldest though younger mares can fight the lead mare for the position. Lead mares can push other mares and foals around, they get to drink first from water holes, lead the herd to new places and even kick out mares that they do not like. They are above the lead stallion in dominance, they lead the herd while the stallion protects, covers and adds more mares into the band.

Stallions mate with all or most mares in his herd once they come into heat, and the mare will give birth in 11 months to a single foal and even twins, though twins are extremely rare and will die if born in the wild as they need human help to survive, there is also a chance of the mare dying if twins are born.

Horses are flight animals, stallions only fight if their herd is being threatened by another stallion. If there were a fire or wranglers and a horse was captured, another horse wouldn't go to the wrangler and fight them as they would be too scared to and would only be thinking about escaping though they will fight if their foal is threatened.

Mares may even go into heat one week after their foals are born and are usually in heat during in Spring and Summer, sometimes Autumn and rarely in winter.

A Bachelor is a stallion who does not have a herd and will often try to court and snake lone mares or mares from another herd. Stallions don't often start herds until they are at least 5, when they are strong enough to keep a few mares and will stay with other bachelors until they gain a mare.

Snaking is when a stallion lowers his head, pins his ears and runs behind the mares, sometimes nipping but is mostly just running close to them. This causes mares, foals, and sometimes even younger stallions to move in a certain direction and is used to bring a herd to another place or to steal mares from a herd. Mares always to go where the stallions want them to go and will hardly fight back, but when they do there is not much they can do since stallions are stronger and can usually get them to go to a certain area quickly and easily. This is used when moving their herd or bring a mare to the herd. Snaking is very normal and mares do not
hate stallions for doing it.

Herds may consist from 1-6 mares but it is possible to have larger herds.

Lone horses cannot survive in the winter and must be with others, either in a herd or in a band of bachelor stallions or they will surely die.

A mare has 4 stages of heat
0- Not interested in a stallion at all
1-Still not interested in a stallion
2-Slightly interested but will still fight
3-Interested but will fight if the stallion tries to hard
4-Will accept any stallion and won't fight at all, even if she does not know him

Though it is not common, a stallion will sometimes kill a foal if it is not their's or if they sense that there is something wrong with it. They do this to make sure only their bloodlines will spread and if the foal has a disability then it will keep the herd from moving slower than it should.

Mares will rarely nurse a foal that is not their's, there are few that may take in a foal, but most usually just ignore the foal, even if it it's dam is dead and It is not weaned.

Older mares that can no longer produce foal's will sometimes try to steal foals from other mares. If this happens, a stallion can't and will not do anything about it. The mother can try to take her foal back, but if she fails the foal will die.

Weather

Image

Summer

Days are longer, nights shorter. There are heatwaves almost every day and fires can start quite easily, especially in the bushlands. Stallions fight a lot, mares are in heat, and foals are being born. Some foals may die due to extreme heat, fires or for any othe reason. Older horses also have a lower chance of survival due to the same reasons. Usually mid year there is a dangerous thunderstorm which will extinguish any fires, and possibly flood some areas for several weeks.

Autumn (Fall)

The weather generally cools down in this season, light rain showers happen generally in the middle and end of this season. Mares are in heat (usually coming out) and some foals are born early and mid Fall. Wild horses are growing a thick winter coat and are travelling to parts of the land, trying to find better grazing areas before winter. Stallions may fight each other still for mares.

Winter

Day's become shorter and nights longer. Wild horses are fighting for survival, heavy snow falls mid winter. The horses usually have thick, wooley coats by now. No mares are in heat, and if any foals are born, it's early Winter, and they would rarely survive because of the harsh conditions. Many horses can die in the winter, as the colder conditions don't mix well with extremely young horses, or older horses...

Spring

The weather is warming up! Day's become slightly longer, but nights are still much longer. Wild horses start to lose their thick winter coats as the weather warms up. Snow and ice melts away, the green grass grows very quickly in Spring. Mares are in all stages of heat this season and foals are being born.

The current season is Spring

Days

Image

Sunday

Warm, Sunny, no rain for the whole day. Windy, the day will begin cooling down at around 4pm.

Monday

Still warm, but cooler then Sunday. More windy. Day will cool down a lot at 4pm.

Tuesday

Quite cool, cloudy day, maybe the occasional trickle of rain throughout the morning and evening. A little windy.

Wednesday

Raining through the morning, sunny mid day, then starts raining again around 5pm. Cool breeze passing through the entire day.

Thurseday

Raining heavily through morning to 3pm. Cloudy for the rest of the day, spitting rain from 6pm to friday morning.

Friday

Spitting rain in morning until afternoon, sunny afternoon, no wind, or breeze. Cools down at around 4pm.

Saturday

Beautiful, sunny and cloudless day. No rain, grass is soft, a little wet and dewy, most water areas are a little flooded.

The day is Saturday

PersonalityMajor is an almost heartless stallion, he rarely courts a mare, mostly snakes. He doesn't think twice about stealing mares. He is cold, mean and fierce, and many younger colts and stallions would fear such a horse. Mares can be easily intimidated by this beast of a horse. Occasionally, there may be a flicker of kindness to young foals, but only ones he is the sire of... To Major, all mares are trophies. Shiney, and all the same. To him, they are only for his amusement and bloodlines. He kicks colts out once they reach a year old, sometimes two. He kicks fillys out once they are a year and a half old. Overall, Majority Rules is a cold hearted, lying, back-stabbing brute of a horse, who is not to be trusted!
HistoryMajority Rules was born in a fairly large band, his dam being one of the other mares, Major got all of his personality from his dam, while his sire watched him grow and devaloped a fear of being overthrowed by his own son. Kicking the colt out when he was only a year old. Major grew cold and hostile to every horse around, even mares and foals. He would bite, kick and sometimes; kill, other horses, just to get what he wanted!
WeightAverage weight for a large horse. But also very muscled...

PersonalityThowra is kinder then most stallions, and will often persuade a mare to join, courting is usually his aim. But if snaking is necessary, he will do it. He has a civil tongue on him and is often to curious for his own good, he wanders the high country, only coming down when humans come to move their spotted red and white cattle. He was born high in the mountains, and knows the land well.
HistoryThe light creamy stallion was born in the middle of a spring thunderstorm, one of the latest foals born that year. He was five days old when his mother and him rejoined their band, his dam was the lead mare, and his father, the band stallion, was known throughout the lands as Yarraman, he had the largest band of brumbies in the land. Thowra was kicked out when he was a two year old, and spent the time with several of his half brothers. Then they soon split up, Thowra had with him a black mare, and a roan foal from the black. He lost the two to a round-up. He is looking for more mares now.

PersonalityFlicka is extremely flighty, always on her feet, restless and a generaly nervous mare. Being brought up in a rough band, she was chased out by a colt, who gave her the nasty scar on her neck. She grew hostile, snappy and even rude. Once she is trusting, she is completely different, sweet, gentle, loving and understanding, and extremely curious!
HistoryFlicka was born in a fairly small band, when she was born there was only her mother (dam), another mare and her filly, and of course the band stallion. Her dam was the lead mare, and rarely payed any attention to foals, not even her own one. So she was brought up by the flighty and non-trusting second mare. Her and the half sister filly were chased out by a colt as yearlings. Soon she escaped and is still wild two years later..

the unsung hero as it were; always letting someone else take credit for his actions. He is very quiet and trusting, and likes his space - therefore accepting other horses' space. Defying Gravity is quite inquisitive, and will usually be up for trying something new. However, his emotions don't rule his head - if he has a bad feeling about a certain place, horse or action, he won't have anything to do with them. At all. No persuasion can sway him. He does like to have a little fun - whether it be exploring, swimming or racing. But he knows when enough is enough. To sum up, he is a very sensible young stallion - unlike others his age...

Past: Defying Gravity is the result of a brief encounter. His sire, Oz, was a racehorse - that one day escaped the coral and galloped off. He met Idina, our young stallion's dam, and fell in love with her. Oz stayed with Idina through the night and the early hours of the morning - until the ranch hands found out he was missing. Though he wanted to stay with her, Idina told him to return to his own world. Oz was found and was taken back to the ranch. A couple of days he was put down due to a broken leg - which he got during a steeple chase. Idina gave birth to Defying Gravity about a year after her brief encounter with Oz, and loved him instantly. 6 months after his birth, he was named Defying Gravity due to a leap he carried out, which made him appear to be flying! When he was a year old, our stallion left his beloved mother to find a place of his own...

Physical Appearance: Defying Gravity is a hardy young stallion; he is cunning, hardy and sound - all traits from his mustang dam. He has a refined head with large bold eyes and a slightly dished face - which he gets from the Arab influence all Thoroughbreds have. His neck is arched and elegant, leading to his withers and long, sloping shoulder which aids him in the ground-covering stride all racehorses possess. Defying Gravity has a short back, with muscular quarters. His chest and girth are deep - giving way for plenty of room for his lungs and heart.

And we don't nobody bring us down.... No matter what you say - it won't hurt me... Don't matter if I fall from the sky... These wings are made to fly!

Personality: Wings is a very shy young mare. She is very superstitious - always blaming
happenings in her life on the spirits. Despite having all of these superstitions, it doesn't
stop young Wings doing anything she wants to! In her short life, she has seen all the
wonders that this haven has to offer, and is still looking for more! Wings has even been
inside the 'prison' that the humans keep the captured horses in, though she doesn't like to

talk of her experiences there. Although her outer shell portrays a wary and untrusting mare, Wings strives to be different. It just takes time! Once she knows another horse well enough and trusts them completely, Wings will open her heart and become the trusting and caring mare that everyone close to her knows her as. To sum up; Wings is a quiet, wary but content individual, who strives to complete her goals and to improve herself. She is caring and good hearted, but takes time to open her heart to others...

Past: Wings was actually born into the world of man. Her mother, Morning Glory, was a prized mare at a Mustang Stud Farm a couple of miles south of where the wild horses roam. Morning Glory had previously given birth to twins - Samson and Delilah. The two youngsters were extremely successful, so the managers of the stud got Morning Glory ready for another covering by the stallion Caspian. However, Morning Glory escaped the coral and disappeared into the wild. She temporarily joined a herd, lead by the stallion Little Coyote. After a couple of days, Morning Glory was pregnant with Little Coyote's foal. For the first few months, the mare journeyed with the herd. However, when she felt that her foal was nearing the day of it's arrival, Morning Glory returned back into the human's care. Sure enough, a couple of days after returning, the palomino mare gave birth to Wings, the offspring of Little Coyote. Morning Glory and Wings were never out of the humans' sight. When Wings was 6 months old, Little Coyote came to the ranch and called to the mare and her filly. Even with the humans' attempts, Morning Glory and Wings jumped the fence and escaped with Little Coyote. Wings left the herd when she was a year old, and has been travelling alone ever since...

Physical Appearance: Wings is quite a small horse. She is hardy, cunning and has lots of stamina. Her legs are quite slender, and her eyes bright and mischievous. Her mane flows in waves down to her shoulder, and she carries her long tail with pride. Her quarters slope down well, and her neck is arched. Her strides are quite bouncy and rough, but do have a certain grace to them.
