What is a Feligriff?

A feligriff is like a griffon; however; instead of being mainly bird;it's more feline. Only the rarest species have front legs. They can be any variety of colors; have feathers of any length and type; and can have similarities to any family or species of feline.
They were a species descended directly from dinosaurs; isolated within a deep cavern below the ocean, covered over by the shifting of the continents. They were recently uncovered by humans activities in the ocean near the Great Barrier Reef. Once on land the species flourished.

Species Info
A Feligriff is a feline-avian halfbreed. They have the ability to grow both feathers and fur.
Their feathers are located primarily in their wings and tails. They lack front legs, except for the rarest of mutations.
Despite living in a cavern underground, they have a very keen sense of eyesight. Though most creatures that live in caves can't see well, the crystals lining the tops of the home they lived in for thousands of years captured the meager light reflecting through the water, and magnified it tenfold.
Size
Feligriffs range in size from as small as a housecat to as big as a truck. It depends on what their diet consists of. They are omnivores; and the ones that rely mostly on meat to live tend to be the larger breeds.
The average size is about 3 ft at the shoulder. They have light bones to allow them to fly; though the ones with smaller wings lack this ability. This means they weigh very little relative to their size.
Physical Attributes.
They are warm blooded, though a few have scales, they are still warm blooded. Males typically are the ones able to have manes; but it is not restricted to males; as females can have them as well.
They have a strong sense of sight; but weak senses of smell. Their hearing is slightly above average.
When in their underground home they swam in pools of water that gathered in the floor of their cave to fish. Their wings allowed them to fly from cliff to cliff; so that's where they're used to living. They have powerful back legs and strong lungs that allow them to hold their breath for a long time.
Social actions and personalities.
They can have a huge range of personalities; and make a large range of sounds. They can make catlike growls;and birdlike tweeting noises.
They live in huge,friendly social groups, and will typically not attack each other.
They will sometimes live alone,but the ones that do tend to be carnivorous.
They mate for life; and are very possessive of their territory; and their families.
They do not like humans, but if raised from birth will tolerate them.
They are incredibly intelligent; but the females tend to be more clever and quick-witted; while the males are more feral in order to protect their prides.
