How did he get those scratches: He was viciously and savagely trained in the way of the warrior. After all the most feral environments produce the best warriors. After training he was thrown out to live a month on his own to prove hos worth as a warrior. Taking a quick sip from the watering hole a very brave croc attacked him and was able to get some claws in him and their mouth around his leg. He fought for his life and escaped injured. He was able to wrap his leg then continue his mission.
