Jaculictii (Jaculictis singular) are two-limbed nocturnal mammals that live in dry, arid biomes. They are naturally colored, although the males will often paint themselves with the nectar of cactus flowers that contain a chemical that reacts with their fur, creating vibrant colors. They have manes and fur, although their underbellies are covered in large scales so that they can slither quickly over the hot desert sand. They are solitary animals, however they mate for life.
➟ The reason Jaculictii are nocturnal is because cactus flowers bloom only at night because otherwise they would dry out in the sun, and since the males use it's nectar, they have evolved to be active when the flower is in bloom.
➟ Jaculictii tend to range in between one and two feet long, females tending to be larger than males.
➟ Jaculictii hatch from eggs, and when they do they are usually no longer than five inches.
➟ The species got it's name "Jaculictis" because the when discovered by a French Eremologist, he thought they species looked like a ferret bred with a snake. So he took the Latin word for ferret, ictis, and the Latin word for serpent, jaculus, and combined the two words to get "Jaculictis".
➟ As explained earlier, male Jaculictii rub cactus flower nectar on their fur and the nectar reacts with it to create different colors. However, many do not know that females will also rub the nectar on their fur. However, their fur lacks the chemical necessary to create vibrant colors like the males do.
➟ Jaculictii can slither and hop, although they only hop when trying to escape from predators. They can hop up to two feet in a single bound.
➟ All Jaculictis eggs are the same color, a light brown with dark brown spots. The color of the eggshell does not hint at the color of the unborn Jaculictis.
