Tooka: Did you hear THAT Hooka? the Ground-lin's going out for FLYING lessons!
Hooka: What a joke, Just give it up, the skin-legs can have their pick over which part they want.
Tooka: Or maybe they'll strap one of their contraptions on-
Hooka: Oh, how devilish of you, sister dear!
Tomu: *snort* That's what you think! The Skin-legs'll get you LONG before they start looking for Mouslin!
Tooka: HAHAHAHA!! I'd like to see that!
a scene from a book idea I had a few years back, it's called Naana's Tales Too Small to Fly the 2nd book in the series. I have a lot of it planned out, but haven't written anything down yet, sadly. but it's about one little Mouslin (Mouse-len) named Tomu who was born with a defect, leaving her wings fragile and small.
On a planet, much like Earth, with skies as pink as cherry blossoms. The gravity is at least twice that of Earth's, so many of the creatures remain small; but since there is little land, many of them have adapted by growing wings. One such species are the small, mouse like Mouslin and the Vulture like Kankaur. Humans have found their way to this planet and have begun to start new life. Being the investigative species they are, the humans had gone to capturing the species of the planet to study them. After 50 years, it's evident they will not leave anytime soon; some are kept in cages, and after 50 years, have lost all trace of intellect and have become nothing but mindless animals.
it is here, our heroine is born, a little Mouslin named Tomu, who's wings are too small and fragile to even flap. As most of her family and everyone else fly about the world for gathering and families, she scrambles along the floor and ground to get places. Tomu is constantly being picked on by the rival birds, the Ooka sisters; calling her a Ground-lin. Flightless.
This scene takes place in a human crop acre, grasses don't grow very well on this land, so there are often bare spots where nothing grows at all. soon after this scene happens, the Ooka sisters notice a tractor coming by and scream that the Skin-legs are making their way. (Skin-legs are humans)
the Humans see the sisters and send sleeping darts, while our little hero scrambles around looking for a place to hide. Since it's harvest season, and the nights are short, the humans are everywhere. after the second day, the farmer's son(an amateur physicist and a rather smart lad) is sent to the bare spot to do some tilling for the next year's crop. Tomu takes this chance to try and get away; low and behold, the farm boy sees her, and catches her.
they form a great relationship over the next few years, lots of stuff happens, the Ooka sisters are released soon after.
yada yada yada.
In short, it's about one little mouse who learned to fly.
