Oh hello! Didn't see you there! Pardon my mess, I'm just setting up shop for the little dears, they make such a mess of things, we really need to get them a proper kennel. Now where was I... Oh! I see I haven't introduced myself! How rude of me. Please call me Shire. I Deal in the most exotic pet adoptions this side of the Rift.

Ahhh, now here's a fine specimen, meet Moko, the first Fizzet on earth. Oh, I see he likes you! But don't let him snuggle too long, these little guys seem to have an odd effect on us humans if we let our guard down. Oh now I'm rambling, I'll tell you more about that in Chapter 2.

Allow me to record some statistics on this paper, so you'll know exactly what you're looking at.

The Fizzet are a peaceful little race, with no visible eyes nor mouth (though I can attest they do, in fact, have mouths), who's primary goal in life seems to be to win your affection. In fact, Fizzet seem to thrive on Emotion itself, becoming stronger when around a very happy, sad, angry, etc. individual. But hey, when you are dealing with creatures from another world, you can't escape a few odd traits. Overall, they are very friendly, and make lovely pets!

Chapter 1 - The Peddler

Postby Berkshire » Sat Apr 06, 2013 5:37 am

Chapter 1
Image
Let me tell you about what I do as an exotic pet dealer. I meet with my supplier from various Rift worlds, and pay him in whatever currency we can barter on. Mr. Ink has been my supplier for several species from the Dome Forest, which I have cheerfully brought back and found homes here on earth.

One day, Ink told me about a colleague of his who might have some more... portable, pets. So far, the creatures I've brought back haven't exactly been "household" material. So off I went to eat this "Persnick" fellow, and see what he had to show me.

And what a sight to see! This peddler had in his hands the most peculiar little beast, a fuzzy, ferrety little creature. I knew immediately that this would be my next big break. I accepted immediately, taking the small beast (He could fit in a drinking glass), and asking about species while I tickled its belly. Persnick's Trade Language was rusty at best, but I was eventually able discern that they were called some long unpronounceable name. When I asked Persnick what I should name my new friend, he muttered something that I have decided means "Two syllables and ends with 'O'."

Thus, that first Fizzet is now none other than my very own Moko! I took him home and learned as much as I could about him (more detail in chapters 2 and 3).

I know go out to see Persnick every week, and we gleefully exchange more Fizzet (What I have decided to call the little guys) for Earth Guinea Pigs, apparently highly prized where he comes from. I come home with a dozen or so little spherical pods with newborn Fizzet inside them, ready to be awakened with a few days of TLC and sunlight.

Fizzet make ideal pets for both country and city folk, needing only love and interaction to keep them healthy, as they do not eat so far as Persnick tells me. He also said they do not breed, which I find quite curious, seeing as I get newborns every week. When pressed on their reproduction though, he only cautions me to keep them inside during rainstorms. Very curious.

Chapter 2 - General Observations

Postby Berkshire » Sat Apr 06, 2013 5:38 am

Chapter 2
Image

Moko seems fully grown now, so I shall use him as my study specimen.

First off, Fizzet have no discernible mouth, or eyes. And yet are able to walk and fly with ease.
They move their head and nose in a way, however, to give the impression they are smelling their environment before making a move. However, I believe they must use some other form of navigation in addition. Perhaps some form of sonar.

Fizzet mouths are RARELY opened
While Fizzet do possess jaws and mouths, they do not function as each animal mouths do. A fizzet thrives solely on emotions. They do not eat food like we do. To hydrate themselves, they dip their noses into still water and ingest it through their small, invisible nostril slits, which also serve for breathing.
A mouth will only be opened during times of extreme peril, when the fizzet's life seems about to end, or when they are in a trance during a thunderstorm.
A fizzet may learn to imitate human expressions eventually, and will curl they "lips" to communicate what they are feeling. It is both an endearing and spooky quality to see your pet smiling at you.

Around Parrot Sized
Newborns come in an opaque white sphere. They start out as small as a peanut when I get them, and grow to about the size of a parrot, the largest being the size of a scarlet macaw.

They can reach adult size in a matter of months.

Moko has stopped growing after two months, and is comfortably the size of a small cat.
The rate of growth seems effected by the amount of attention they get during adolescence. I haven't experimented much though, so there could be still more variables.

Great Variety.
Fizzet can come in any color you can think of! Most have wings of one sort or another, but occasionally I'll get one in a bath that lacks wings. This seems to have little affect on the quality of life, however, as Fizzets spent most of their time walking or perched.
I have seen several types of tails cropping up, from long hairs to great plumes o small tufts, there does not seem to be a breed standard.

Mortality
No known fizzet has passed away or been weakened by old age, though the oldest Fizzet I have encountered was only 8 years old... Fizzet can be injured or killed as easily as a wild cat or dog. They are surprisingly resilient when suffering injuries however, and heal quickly.

Coexistence
Most Fizzet can live happily alongside humans, animals, and other fizzet. They are able to befriend most other animals, much like a cat and a dog can coexist. Fizzet can be seen migrating in swarms back in their homeland, sometimes as much as 100 strong. But most of the time they will separate as loners or in small groups of around 4 or 5 at most, with whom they can live happily.
Territorial Fizzets should not be housed with other animals, fizzet or otherwise.

Communication
Fizzet vocabulary consists of purring and squeaking, as well as many unique noises such as "Churr" "Fzzzz" And many others. They do not have a complicated language however, being mere animals. They are able to communicate with other fizzet very well, with both audible and silent signals.

Chatper 3 - Learned Along the Way

Postby Berkshire » Sat Apr 06, 2013 5:39 am

Chapter 3
Image

Fizzet do somehow make vocalizations, usually contented "churr"s, but sometimes escalating to wild screeches, depending on their mood.

Fizzet will mimic your emotions, especially if they are particularly strong. Sometimes, when I am feeling extremely miserable, Moko will come and rub his head on me, asking for pets. Soon, we both settle into a calm, not-quite-as-sad-as-before state. Likewise, if I'm excited (Moko's favorite), Moko swoops in and joins me, often with a calming effect.

DO NOT GET YOUR FIZZET WET!
This will have serious consequences!
I tried to bathe Moko one day (his naturally sleek and slightly oily fur was starting to bother me). After a great struggle, I dipped him in the warm water, and suddenly, his black back turned white and his white belly turned black! An extremely agitated Fizzet emerged, and his little cries and coughs broke my heart. It wasn't just that though...

An inverted Fizzet (when wet) will cause numbness and rashes on your hands, just by touching the fur. As such, I do not advise baths, as afterwards, when Moko dried, his fur was just as oily as ever, and I had to put cream on my hands for a week.

Chapter 4 - Precautions and Unexplored Areas

Postby Berkshire » Sat Apr 06, 2013 5:41 am

Chapter 4
Image

Do NOT fall asleep with your Fizzet!
I once fell asleep with Moko snuggled in my lap, and woke up in a fog, not knowing who or where I was, and with Moko feeling very heavy on my legs. Luckily, it wore off in an hour or two, and Moko gradually grey lighter, but it is not an experience I plan to repeat.

Keep you Fizzet Indoors During a Thunderstorm!
Especially if you have not bee giving them attention lately. Fizzets can free-range most of the time, usually coming inside when the slightest "wetness" appears in the sky. But occasionally, they will wander out into the damaging rain, as if in a trance. Usually this behavior is accompanied by thunder and lightning, and seems to cause an irresistible urge to wander about outside and climb the tallest thing they find. After the storm, they will wander aimlessly until picked up and brought back home, where, once dry, they resume their normal lives.

Nowadays, I keep Moko locked in the bathroom during such storms.
