About Nyreidan
- Description:
Nyreidan [nigh-ray-dun/nigh-ray-dan] ;- Small nymph-like creatures that are born in and live around water sources. Their physical appearance resembles that of a small mammal with insectoid features. They are the size of large dragonflies, as in insect size.
(These are not the size of wolves, they are not related!)
Slimline, elongated body that averages 65mm in length for female adults, and about 80mm in length for males. Plush fur runs from its neck to its rump, excluding the legs, with a fur plume on the tail tip. Colourful 'plating' runs along the front of it's fore and hind legs, the back of its tail, and along the nose bridge. Males also have a colourful striping along the sides of their ears. Their wings are long, translucent and fine, ranging from 130mm to 180mm from tip to tip of the larger wing pair. Males usually appear in brighter and more vivid colouring, whereas females tend to be softer in colour (there may be exceptions to both). Their plating colours usually mimic or closely match their fur. The ends of their legs, on the soles of their feet, are lined with incredibly small barbs which allow them to grip onto almost all surfaces and hang where they please, whether to rest, hide or feed. Their eyes are multi-faceted and are usually black, though they can appear in other dulled colours.
- Nyreidan eggs are laid underwater amongst foliage for protection, they are like water globules in appearance and semi transparent, and take about a month to hatch. When ready to hatch, the eggs float to the surface and seemingly burst apart, the baby then crawls up out of the water and dries its wings. Once ready it takes off immediately in search of food.
- Child Nyreidan spend a lot of their time eating to bulk up and grow. Within another month they will have reached the peak of their growth and will be mature. Adult, male Nyreidan will then immediately begin to seek out a mate, whether it be a temporary or permanent mate, spending great deals of time working on their display dance to impress potential females. Females will set up a permanent nesting spot which they will live in unless it is completely destroyed, at which point they will relocate and rebuild.
- Males flick their ears about as they dance in elaborate, personalised patterns, attempting to display their colours to their fullest to secure a mate. Impressed females will then leave their nest to join in and mimic their dance, often linking tails in the process, before they allow their new mate into the nest.
- Parent Nyreidan do not usually hang around waiting for their laid eggs to hatch, but they do tend to linger nearby since their nest is usually up high so they can keep an eye on them.
Nyreidan eat a wide variety of food, depending on their chosen habitat. Such foods include but are not entirely limited to: Fruits and berries, Nuts, Seeds, Small insects, Flowers, Leaves, Bark and Nectar, which is their preferred drink.
Since they are small, Nyreidan spend a lot of time flying around in order to eat and socialise, visiting each others territories and establishing friendships as well as possible pairings. They have no specific predators but could easilly be hurt by anything bigger than them (birds, for example).
They are all individuals and prefer different things. One may like to gather and store food while another might like to play in puddles while another might like to fight.. they're all unique.

- You may not resell designs adopted here. You may however give them away, raffle them (free), put them in donation centers, or give them back to be readopted.
- You may not replicate my species or lineart for any reason.
- Regular user limit to own is 6. Nyreidan Staff limit is 10. You can give nyreidan up for re-adoption provided you contact the original artist of that nyreidan and myself in order to rehome it.
- WIP forms are fine but whatever is there by the cutoff date will count as your app, and if it's not complete or correct then it won't look good on your favour for adoption.
- It is at the Nyreidan artist's discretion whom to award the Nyreidan to, and as long as the criteria is full met by whomever is picked there should be no quarrels.
- If you provide art in a form and don't win, you are under no obligation to give the art to the new owner, it is at your discretion because it is your art. I would prefer not to have quarrels over not winning even if you provide art also, it is a risk you choose to take when you apply.
