This is a sketch of Lady Macbeth's costume before and after the murder of the previous King of Scotland, Duncan. Both Lady Macbeth and Macbeth don red clothing when they become King and Queen through murder. The red symbolizes the blood of the previous King and how the Macbeth's are unable to wash the blood from their hands. I enjoy Lady Macbeth's the most because her regency-style dress is a clean white, with just a hint of red hues, symbolizing her purity before the murder as well as foretelling what was going to happen. After she becomes queen, she then dons a lovely deep red, velvet-like bolero with darker rosette patterns with gold trim and two gold buttons closing the bolero slightly below her bosom. Instead of a crown, she wears a simple head band made of the same material as the bolero.
