meet mr. berlin verbeck, more commonly known as lin. he highly despises his real
name, and much prefers to be called by his admittedly rather girly nickname. this
man, aged twenty-one years, is one of the most skilled close combat fighters you
will ever come across. his other strength is battle strategy, though he severely la
cks in ranged weaponry and has quite a bit of trouble empathizing with others. p
erhaps this makes him a bit rough around the edges and hinders his teaching in ce
rtain ways, but it's all he's ever known and a permanent part of his personality. do
not expect him to have some surprisingly soft center, because you'll be met with
only disappointment. he can be caring, sure, and even affectionate- sappiness ju
st isn't really his thing. maybe he's a bit too serious, but it really comes in handy
when he's needed in any sort of battle. human interaction has never been one of
his strong suits, and he didn't really have many friends even since he was little.
despite this, he can be oddly flirtatious at times and has a gorgeous singing voice.

Even for a dauntless in his prime, Castor is imposing to say the least. All six feet of him is comprised of solid muscle wrapped
across sinewy limbs, pockmarked with various scars and imperfections. Among these are two tattoos; one, a thorn pattern
armband stitched on his left bicep and the other, a raven sewn over his ribcage. Leather bands and bracelets are often found
adorning his wrists, while his neck is bound by a woven necklace always. As typical of the dauntless, he wears dark clothing,
which for him means tight-fitted black shirts and dark grey cargo pants. Castor has white-blonde hair buzzed on the sides and
shaggy on the top, and often the long strands will stray in front of his vision. The color of the sea, his eyes are a pallor of pale
green and blue. Just as waves shift and change with each passing tide, the shade of his irises seem to change with his mood.


In dauntless, no one knows Castor by his real name. Instead he's called Thorn, most likely due to his prickly personality.
Preferring to stay alone rather than mingle in a large group of people, he keeps to himself, remaining a mysterious guy
who few know much about. Not many approach him in fear of meeting with the cold, insensitive wall he has built up around
himself. After all, people fear what they don't understand --- and no one has ever bothered to really understand Castor. He's not
the gentle, loving type that everyone wants him to be. He is extremely clever and calculating, often able to figure things out
before most other people catch on. Growing up in Candor, he found no use in running his mouth. Instead, he only learned to pick
his words more carefully. Watching others around him made him able to read people really well. But in the process, he quickly
realized what an ugly world he lived in. Though the time where people hunted divergent had already passed, everyone was still
pitted against each other. Just when he thought he couldn't get any more confused over which faction was right, the time came
for his test scores to be revealed. He discovered that he had an aptitude for Dauntless and Erudite, but Amity wasn't completely
ruled out. Castor ultimately chose Dauntless because he knew it was the only faction in which he would be able to change anything.


After joining Dauntless, Castor soon found he was naturally skilled at close combat; partially due to his size, but mostly
because he was utterly unafraid of facing the other initiates. It wasn’t that he was ruthless; actually, he hated the idea of
needlessly hurting others, so he made sure to end each match as quickly as possible. Rather, he was more determined, driven,
and passionate than the others, in the end, rising him to the top. Since he kept to himself, no one knew of his divergence. But
even if they did, his aptitude for erudite paired with the courage of the dauntless made him an untouchable target. Overall, his
fears held him back during initiation. He had fourteen fears; ankylophobia (fear of paralysis), aquaphobia (fear of drowning),
taphophobia (fear of being buried alive), pathophobia (fear of disease), parasitophobia (fear of parasites), haptephobia (fear
of being touched), ochlophobia (fear of crowds or mobs), philophobia (fear of falling in love), soteriophobia (fear of dependence
on others), pistanthrophobia (fear of trusting), amnesiphobia (fear of amnesia or forgetting), paralipophobia (fear of neglecting
duty or responsibility), kakorrhaphiophobia (fear of failure or defeat), and necrophobia (fear of death or dead things). Due to
his relatively high rank, he had the opportunity to pick the job of a full-time trainer. After all these years, Castor still just wants
to teach the initiates to defend themselves in this world full of damaged people.
