"me, an artist? more like you, a writer," she laughed, putting her own arm across riley's shoulder. she walked into the classroom, tipping an imaginary hat to mr. matthews. "mr matthews!" she grinned and winked at their teacher, who simply smiled back.

"It's just a hobby, messing around a bit." Riley smiled. "But you're... wow. What a dream." Riley smiled and sat down. "I mean it, you've really got something special." She took out her books, hiding her notebook among them.

[heheh just gonna pretend Maya didn't hear it. It's seriously a work in progress for me, took me 7 minutes and I want to develop it more. Not in here but real life. XD]

maya fiddled with her hoodie strings slightly, embarrassed. "i... i don't know," she looked down, then looked back up at riley with a wry smile. the bell soon saved her from saying anything else, and she got into her seat quickly, taking out the textbooks that they rarely used anyways.

"I mean it, Maya. You're really great." She smiled encouragingly. If only people could see the beauty they contain. The smile left her face, replaced with a look of interest, and she opened her notebook. She propped her head up on one elbow and began to write.

I had just arrived in class when a boy approached me with a smile and asked if I was from Texas. For a second I seriously had to think back to where I was from, not because I didn't know, but because I was half surprised by his question as well as by how quick it was for someone to talk to me. I wasn't really that outgoing, and I didn't really figure I looked that inviting either. "I'm actually from North Carolina, but I did spend a little time in Texas a couple years ago. I stayed there for the rodeos," I paused, "And I figure since you're askin', you're from Texas?" I looked him up and down, he looked like a cowboy but who knows. I noticed people were grabbing their seats and starting on their work. "Y'all have assigned seats or do ya' just sit wherever?"

maya smiled, then returned to her desk, right next to riley's. she gave a small grin as she saw riley working feverishly, writing down words at the speed of lightning. she did truly think that riley could be an author, her literature works were amazing.

zay grinned. "ah, i see," he nodded his head as he propped his elbows on her desk. "yeah, i'm from texas." he smiled, tipping an imaginary hat off to this new girl. "my name's zay," he grinned that mischevious grin again. some found it annoying, others found it perturbing, but she didn't seem to mind. "what's your name?"

"I figured," I nodded, laughing a bit. I tipped my real hat to him and stuck out my hand, "My name's Amber. Ever heard of Rocky Mountain Gunslinger? That's our rodeo name. Me an' my horse, that is." I shook his hand and continued, "Nice to meet you Zay." I glanced over at the rest of the class figuring I should probably sit down. "So, where do you sit? I figure I could sit by you if that's alright."

"rocky mount'n gunslinger!" he smiled, nodding his head. "you folks have been heard quite a bit back in town, good stuff, good stuff" he confirmed. "i might've seen you two on tour before, your horse, he called shotgun? shogun?" shaking her hands too, he nodded. "i sit there, next to lucas." he paused to wave back at his best friend, then gesture to his seat. "he owns 24 horses back in texas." zay grinned. most would be shocked about that fact, but he knew that amber'd probably heard of more.

I smiled "Really? Y'all heard of us? I didn't know we were that famous," I laughed, though I really didn't think anyone would know me here. I thought this was going to be city folk central but maybe, maybe I was wrong. "Yeah, his name's Shogun. Jack of all trades, master of none, but he sure is good at them barrels and somehow we just flow. He's a good'n. Maybe y'all should come ride sometime, we brought our horses with us from North Cackalacky." I started heading towards the seats all the while still talking. "So you and Lucas cowboys? Do y'all rodeo?" I figured since this Lucas character had a bunch of horses that they'd probably rodeo-ed before. "Man, I could talk all day about rodeo. Ain't a thing I haven't tried. If you ever wanna learn something specific, I'd be willing to teach ya. Like my horse, I'm a jack of all trades but I've never been a master of anything." I laughed at myself knowing it was true and accepting the fact. I figured it was better to be well rounded than to know nothing but one thing. I took a seat near Zay and opened my bag. Pulling out a brand new notebook I started scribbling down thoughts.

Riley finished scribbling her thoughts. She's turn it into a short story or poem later. She looked back at Zay and Lucas. They were talking to someone new. She smiled warmly and got up to stand next to them. "Hi!" She said. "I'm Riley. What's your name?"
