Rain gapped after her stallion. Her surprise turned to sorrow, and her sorrow to anger. She pinned her ears and charged a few strides after him, as if to make him keep going. “Run away, why don’t you?!” She screeched after him, nostrils flared. The mare reared and struck at the air, her hooves flailing. “Keep going, you coward!” Immediately after her front hooves slammed onto the ground, she looked up again. Pyro had almost vanished from sight. Rain craned her neck and shook her body angrily. The mare paced a few steps one way before swirling around and glaring after the bay stallion again. “And don’t come back!” She hollered after him, hoping her voice reached him. “Don’t you ever come back here, Pyro!” She spat his name like it was the most horrid thing in the world, and right now… it was. Rain bucked, flashing her hooves out behind her. She was sad he ran. She was angry he hadn’t said anything. But more than anything, she was confused. “Was your family not enough?!” She shrieked loudly, not caring that he probably couldn’t hear her anymore.
“Did you need more?!”
Her head dropped down, chest heaving as she turned away from the stranger stallion and Echo. “Am I not enough?” The mare mumbled softly to the ground. She blinked away tears forming in her eyes. Pyro didn’t deserve her tears. He didn’t deserve her and Echo’s compassion, their care. He didn’t deserve any of it!
Ears pinned against her skull, Rain stared blankly at the ground as the sound of thundering hooves slowly became fainter and fainter. She picked up her head and stared into nothing, trying to overcome her emotions. You broke your rule, Rain… You let yourself care. The red roan lightly shook her head. She had to be strong... For herself and Echo and Infinity. Turning around, she picked her head up high and gritted her teeth, locking her jaw. She walked stiffly back to the others and halted by Echo’s side. Letting her emotionless gaze slide over the large stranger, she locked her eyes on him.
