Also (sort of an unrelated question), how do the assigned mates work? Are the cats that are chosen to be with one another aware that they're supposed to be? If they are, are they already mates, or are they just expected to eventually get together? My apologies if this is a stupid question.

If one of your characters are a becoming a warrior they are usual assigned a mate.
In this case since you have a warrior you can see whom is there assigned mate on the first page of the roleplay threat.

Oops! That's what I get for rushing! I'll go fix that!

And yes, Zillow is right! Both cats are fully aware they've been assigned to one another. In fact, the whole clan knows about it. The two cats don't actually have to like each other. But they can if they would like! We do have quite a few happy couples! It is technically 'forbidden' to fall in love with another cat. Though, there are plenty of cats who have done so. Such as Cinderheart and Kestrelthorn. Seeing as though they were not assigned but are now having kits together.

Some couples end up falling in love over time! It's all up to you and your 'mates' roleplayer!
