I couldn't find a generalised and active 'mafia game' thread in the recent topics of the CS forum games section (sorry if there is one!), but let me know about any and all active 'mafia games' you know of and I'll link them here!
What is a Mafia Game?
A mafia game (sometimes known as a 'werewolf' game in animal/furry-related forums) is a forum game in which one player out of a largeish group is designated the 'killer'. At the start of every round, the killer will choose who to kill (naturally), and that player is then out of the game. However, nobody but the killer and the person in charge of the game knows who the killer is. Every time someone is killed, all the players have to take a vote on who they think the killer is. If they guess right, they win the game! If they guess wrong, another innocent player is kicked out.
How do you play?
Sign up, and I'll do (most of) the rest! All you need to do is select a character and subscribe to the thread, but please make sure you're active because we'll need as much participation as possible, especially if you get chosen as the killer!
When the game starts, one random user will be PM'd to let them know that they're the killer. Then they get to choose someone to kill! Sadly, there's always one player who never even makes it past the first round, but small mafia games can end quite quickly, and I plan to keep making new games when the old ones finish.
When there's been a murder, all the players have to have a public vote on who they think is the killer. The vote ends when all players have voted, but if they don't vote in a certain time period, the vote will close without them.
The player with the most votes is then ousted/killed/etc. (depending on the story). If they were the killer, then the innocents win, and the next game begins. If they weren't, the remaining players have to go through another round.
Is there a story?
I plan on making each mafia game have a theme - the first game's theme being Animal Crossing - so that both the short story and the characters are organised.
My first experience with mafia games was on an Animal Crossing forum, so I thought it would be a good place to start. On said forum, the games were always accompanied by short story segments detailing the game's initial setting, and the murder and voting scenes afterwards (though there's not going to be any graphic detail, obviously). They were fun and exciting, and not so 'professional' and intimidating feeling as the sites and forums dedicated entirely to mafia games.
Each story will be fitted to the game's theme. So an Animal Crossing theme would have a little short story dedicated to the villagers all moving in to this new town, and the mayor welcoming them, or something to that effect. You're not obliged to read the short story under any circumstances, and the game can be played without it, but it's just something I enjoy that I feel makes the game better.
What are the rules?
Outside of the normal CS forum rules (which will obviously be very important), there are a few mafia game rules that you'll need to remember.
-You can't change character once the game has started, though you can change before that if you like.
-You can't be a character someone else has already chosen - and please, do NOT argue over them!
-You can't go around telling everyone whether or not you're a killer. This just makes the game boring and pointless!
-You can't argue or vote after you've been killed. There's always going to be players who are killed early on, but you're more than happy to watch and talk (as a ghost
