It seems like overnight the Ivy Scouts had doubled in number. With so many new dogs and new ranks to assign, Garland didn't want there to be chaos and arguments. Hedecided to call the kennel's first meeting at the
station. The kennel gathered at noon and Garland sat on the platform while everyone looked up at him from the tracks below. His amber eyes the only light in the silhouette of his body. The aura he gave off was powerful and that of a leader. Once the last dog sat down, Garland glanced at his kennel. Glare were exchanged between Candie and Stella. Truskett blushed as Minerva looked his way. The pups and trainees were rowdy and could hardly sit still. This disorder disgusted Garland. This is not how he pictured his kennel to turn out.
Garland cleared his throat and commanded "Everyone new and old to the kennel. Sit still and pay attention. With the kennel growing so quickly, I wanted to set some ground rules. I, the alpha, has rule over everything. Anything I say is law and will be followed. The council will make decisions for the kennel. The council consists of me, the beta Kalta, and the branch heads.
"There will be no fighting in the kennel and those who are caught in a fight risk being demoted to omega. The branch heads can punish those in their branch in any means they deem fit. If they punish another dog outside of their branch they risk being demoted to omega. Branch heads that abuse their power WILL be demoted or run out of the kennel.
"Trainees and pups should behave in meetings and in training. If they misbehave they will be punished by their mentor. When their time comes and they hunt for their feathers and they fail a decision will be made by the council if the dog should stay as an omega or be sent on exile for three moons. If they don't return with their feathers, they will be kicked out of the kennel.
"Now all of you new dogs will be sent to get your feathers with the hunter branch head Kalta and myself. You will now be assigned a branch. Truskett, Minerva, you will become guardians. Natiri, Laila, you will be hunters. Stella, for now you will be a whelper and mother to all of the pups in the kennel. Your duty is done when the pups are grown to trainees. Bandit, with the council's vote, you will train to become a hunter with Ulysses as your mentor. Chi, you are the healer and will help Stella raise the pups. You also will have to retrieve your feathers. Meeting adjourned."
The kennel started clearing out back towards camp. When Natiri heard that Chi had to also retrieve his feathers she was shocked. Natiri ran up to Garland and pleaded. "Garland, please you have to reconsider sending Chi out to get his feathers. My older brother is blind and frail in his age but he is a very skilled healer. He may not be able to keep up with the hunt. Is there any other way where he can be accepted as a member of this kennel?"
Garland looked at the dog's pleading eyes. "No. He must get his feathers or be exiled. I cannot have any acceptations to this rule."
"He won't be able to do it. He could get injured."
"Natiri, I asked the ancestors for a healer and they sent me one. I know he is more than capable of being a part of this kennel. And if you're so worried about him, you can help him on your hunt. Now go prepare to leave or Kalta will leave without you." Garland strode off. He didn't want to sound bitter and mean, but rules are rules. If there is an acceptation now, there will be many more dogs wanting one in the future.
