not necessarily a trope, but games that force you to grind to complete the story are enough for me to put it down for a while. I have a JRPG like that that I've been trying to pick up again lately because to advance certain aspects of the story, you have to grind for at least a couple of hours, which (ironically) grinds my gears and annoys me because everything else about the game is gorgeous. at least grinding is pleasurable in that regard though!

well, my old best friend was really into jojo,
excitable. always cracking jokes. he helped me
through a lotta personal issues. he doesn't even
know that he was helping. we don't talk much any
more though, since we graduated. i miss him, but it
is what it is.

I don't know whether it qualifies as best, but one of my all time favourites is into the spiderverse and I actually rewatched it yesterday for that matter. Anyhow it is visually a masterpiece and everytime I look through all the tiny details in every frame I die thinking of how much work was put into it.
