to try and find them but they are nowhere in sight.

your town has a pokecenter, park and a marketplace.
without your trainer, you are free to do whatever!

what do you do?

"Have you seen Eva?" a rather harried-looking Ditto cries as she paces the Pokémon Center's lobby. "Has anyone seen my trainer?" Jello, bouncing around restlessly, scans the lobby for any sign of her trainer, but to no avail. Eva's not hidden behind any potted plants, or sitting at the café, or relaxing in the room with a book and the rest of her team.

She'd only dozed off for a minute! Where could they have gone? They were supposed to be having a gym battle soon!

A nearby Sylveon glances at Jello, and shakes his head. "Sorry, little one, I haven't," he says, poking the Ditto with a ribbon feeler. "But have you considered that your trainer might just be out shopping? Lots of trainers come here for its shopping mall."

Jello pauses in her search. "Huh," she says. "I hadn't thought of that." Maybe Eva had just gone off to purchase some last-minute potions and left her partner, Ditto, to nap in peace?

The Sylveon laughs, before nudging the Ditto towards the door with his feelers. "Go on, then. Give the markets a look."

"Thank you!" Jello calls, before venturing out onto the streets and, by following a heavy crowd of people and pokémon, making her way towards what she assumed was the town's famous shopping center.

All the docked boats are attached to the pier with rope, save one. It has a small bored that I can cross over. I spot a sailor mopping the deck of the boat at about the same time he spots me.

"Hey, what's up? What is a Blitzle like you doing here?" he asks.

I cross over onto the boat and approach him hesitantly, thoroughly aware of my shiny coloring. "I'm looking for my trainer," I say cautiously. "I think she might be on the other side of the lake, but I don't know how to get there. Can you help me?"
