Spikepaw padded out of his den. He absorbed the scene. It seemed like the dawn patrol was just heading out. At least there were no deaths in camp today. Spikepaw gravitated towards Magpienose, his mentor, unsure of what to do. "Are we going on patrol, Magpienose?"

It had been a while since the patrol had gone out, and Vixentail was getting antsy. She shuffled nervously in her nest, before getting to her paws and padding out of the nursery. She looked towards the camp entrance, and frowned. Going alone wouldn't kill her, surely. Plus, the patrol was in the area, so she should be safe. She picked her way out of camp, and smelt the air. Clean and fresh, a slight hint of flowers… As she approached the river, however, the coppery smell of blood started to overtake her senses. Her eyes widened, and she stopped "No, please…" She whispered, slowly walking through some bushes. What she saw terrified her. Hazelmist's body was washed up on shore, blood splattered around the area as the waves of the river tugged gently at the pebbles and her diseased clan mates fur. Vixentail felt tears spring into her beautiful green eyes as she looked at her friend… "Hazelmist! Not you… I knew Avocetwhisker was innocent!" She wailed. She suddenly ran off, going as fast as her big belly would let her. When she scented the patrol nearby, she wailed out "Help! Hazelmist is dead! Please, come quickly!" She sobbed as she broke through the undergrowth, stumbling upon the patrol as she quivered, staring at her clan mates with fear and tears in her eyes "I just went on a walk to the r-river since I… I wanted to go on a walk before you got back.. I found her body… OH STARCLAN! The murderer is still in Thunderclan!" She panicked, shaking like a leaf.

[A Voice Among Many]

Acornpaw was following behind the patrol as much as she could, not wanting to stay too close to any of the cats. Her muscles locked up when she heard a familiar wailing trying to get attention. "Vixentail." She barely whispered. Before the apprentice knew it, she ran past the other cats to meet face to face with the queen. "You need to calm down. Focus on your kits and take deep breaths." She was shaking herself, but seeing the other she-cat in such a state had her more concerned than afraid.

» Magpienose, startled, turned to face Squirrelstar. She relaxed once she realised that her leader's claws were not on her throat.
"I don't really see why not. Might I come?"
Ever since Berryfoot's death by the berries, she'd been vigilantly tearing her food into chunks before eating it, and if she could catch some prey herself, she could eat it without the threat of death looming over her.

Squirrelstar nodded. "Yeah, of course." She mewed before gesturing for Magpienose to follow her and Acornpaw. The black and red leader froze when Vixentail started wailing. Squirrelstar followed after Acornpaw to join Vixentail.

"Vixentail, what happened?" Squirrelstar mewed, a worried look in her eyes. "Why were you alone? You should've gone with someone."
