Burningkit was bored. The other kits were asleep with the queens,
and there was almost no one in the camp.

The tawny she-kit walked out of the nursery, watching for trouble.
She wanted to sneak out of the camp, and as it was nearing
darkness, it was the perfect time.

"Where are you going?" asked someone.

Burningkit whirled around. It was too dark to see clearly, but she
could tell that it was one of her Clanmates. "Nowhere," she replied.

"And you won't be going anywhere anytime soon," snarled the cat,
leaping forward.

Burningkit was frozen with terror until she saw another cat jump
onto the would-be killer. "Run!" yowled the other. She decided to
listen and fled to the nursery, where she would be safe.

The two fighting cats separated and ran off, where no one would
know their identity.

You got lucky, ThunderClan, as the guard protected a potential
victim! Be vigilant, and try to find the killer...before they find
you!

Poppyspots woke up in the nursery, whiskers twitching in tiredness. She turned her head to see a quite frightened Burningkit.
"Burningkit, are you alright?"

Graytail woke up early, as always, before the sun had even risen. As she planned patrols, she decided to bring one of the last pieces of prey to the queens and kits. A hunting patrol would refill the fresh-kill pile soon anyways. Grabbing a plump squirrel, she brought it to the nursery. When she walked in, she could tell that Burningkit was alarmed and Poppyspots was talking to her. "What's wrong?" she asked, placing the squirrel down.

Robinmask yawned as the sun shone through the den, he woke up at dawn, as usual. The tom looked over to where the deputy was standing, right beside the nursery. He decided to join them, looking confused at the pair, "What happened?" he added in the chorus of questions, backing up, not wanting to crowd the kit.

Deerleg yawned as he finally woke up from his sleep. He stretched out his long limbs and arched his back, feeling his spine pop and relax. Almost immediately, a heavy feeling settled in his chest causing him to frown. Something didn't feel right. He shook his head and carefully stepped over the sleeping bodies around him to exit the den. Deerleg looked over at the nursery and the crowd growing around it. The feeling in his chest became heavier as he padded over to join them. "Is everything okay?" He asked in concern, careful to keep his distance from the terrified kit.

It was still dark, but Lonepaw was completely awake. He liked the night and the early morning hours, and his night vision was good enough to see clearly by moonlight. Lonepaw hummed softly to himself as he sorted through herbs. Appletwig was sleeping off to the side, snoring occasionally. It all felt very peaceful to the medicine cat apprentice. If only he'd known what was about to come, Lonepaw would have felt very differently.

Silverwing opened her eyes sleepily, wondering why there were so many cats in the nursery. She was immediately wide awake when she saw Burningkit's expression. She rushed to the kit's side, feeling guilty that she had slept through whatever had happened. "Are you alright? What's wrong? Did you have a nightmare?" She licked the top of Burningkit's head in an attempt to comfort her.

Orchidpaw blinked to awaken herself. Did everyone have to wake up at this hour? There was still a whole entire ten minutes before the sunrise ! Her goal was to quickly become and elder or a queen and then sit around doing nothing all day. Orchidpaw grumpily got out of her nest and poked her head out. There seemed to be a commotion at the nursery, so she headed over there.

Honeypaw stirred in his nest, trying to get some more sleep. "Can't a cat get rest around here?" He mumbled irritatedly and yawned. Even after a few moments, the noise from the nursery persisted, leaving Honeypaw no choice but to rise from his comfortable nest and exit the den. "What's happened, and why is everyone being so noisy?" He asked no one in particular.
