paws moved silently through the forest, waves of moonlight washing over a spotted pelt. rain poured down, dousing everything in sight with cold, stinging water. julius struggled through mud, each step draining his strength. a shriek sounded through the forest, chilling the serval to his bones. he stumbled over a tree root, his breaths short and ragged. "julius! help me!" the cry rang out once more, terror lacing the speaker's voice. "where are you?" julius called out, his voice hoarse. suddenly, the silhouette of a cat appeared in front of him, and he sighed in relief. "thank starclan, you're okay!" he rushed forward to help them up, but they disappeared in thin air. suddenly, the forest around him faded away, and he was left standing on an infinite plain. he cried out in fear, but didn't get an answer. panic overwhelmed him, his body shaking like a cold mouse.

he awoke with a gasp, his heart racing. the dim glow of the moontree radiated into his den, where he slept alone. taking deep breaths to calm himself down, julius eventually dozed off again.

It took hours upon hours for the cat to arrive, and Sagestar figured that it was by far the longest time she'd ever waited. Her eyelids drooped, her head dipped to her chest repeatedly, and finally, she fell asleep.

When she finally woke up, it was not by her own volition, but by a paw nudging her. Instead of the sky being a lovely painting of purples and pinks as it normally was when the cat arrived, it was pale blue and the sun was shining down. Sagestar turned her head to see a grey tabby with a white chest and muzzle.

The cat jumped back and beamed.
"Oh! Hey, who're you?"

Sagestar blinked wildly and slowly rose to her feet.
"Oh, well... hello. I'm Sagestar, leader of RainClan. I assume you're the cat StarClan sent?"
The tabby nodded.
"Yuh-huh! I had a dream thing and there were cats in it. They were normal cats, but I could kinda see through them? It was weird but cool. My name is Ash, by the way!"
Sagestar chuckled.
"Well, in clans, we have two parts to our names. What's your best skill?"

"Oh, I'm really good at tracking!"
"Okay. How does Ashnose sound?"

The other cat's pale green eyes lit up.

"I like that a lot!"

Ashnose bounded over to the path, turning around and smiling eagerly at Sagestar.

Sagestar smiled warmly and glanced behind her at the pool, to see if StarClan had taken her offering. The fish was gone.
She turned to face Ashnose and came up the path beside her.
She smelt of fish.

Mallowcloud and the rest of his patrol sniffed all along the ground for the milk and fox scent. There was nothing.
He raised his head to face the rest of his patrol mates and spoke clearly and seriously, but cheerfully.
"There's no scent, and we didn't see anybody in the den. I think it's been abandoned."

The rest of the patrol relaxed, their shoulders dropping in relief.

It took a few more hours to cave in the den, but once they were done, the previously foreboding structure laid in a heap on the ground.

With a flick of his tail, Mallowcloud beckoned for his patrol to follow him back to camp.

▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬

The group strode into camp with smiles wide on their faces. There was a new cat amongst their clanmates - a grey tabby who was talking excitedly to Dunnockpelt. Mallowcloud cleared his throat.

"The fox den appears to have been abandoned. We've caved it in, but I think that we should still send out strong warriors on both hunting and regular patrols."

He turned to face Sagestar for confirmation, who nodded.

"Mallowcloud is right. A powerful warrior will be sent out on any patrol for the next while, at least until it's clear that the foxes have left. Dusttail, your patrol may leave now."

▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬

Dusttail turned around repeatedly as he and the rets of his patrol headed back to camp. All of the clan's apprentices were nearly warriors, and he wasn't quite sure how to treat them. He was a chaperone, the only warrior there, but at the same time, they were almost old enough to be somebody else's chaperone.

It was odd, to say the least.

He'd spent the majority of the patrol sidelined from the rest of the group, who talked amongst themselves, fishing within shouting distance of each other while Dusttail scrambled into the space he was most comfortable with - the trees. It was difficult to keep his balance, hunt, and keep an eye on the apprentices simultaneously, but somehow, he managed to climb down with a bird hanging from his jaws.

The apprentices all held small, silver, fish - minnows, and looked more than a little sheepish.

Applepaw set his small catch onto the forest floor and smiled sheepishly
"We uh, talked a lot," he explained, shuffling awkwardly, "it's just that our warrior assessments are coming up super soon and we're super excited."

Dusttail shook his head.
"It's alright. It's reasonable to be excited."

There was a brief, awkward silence as the four cats stood there, waiting for somebody else to speak.

Without a word, Dusttail picked his catch back up and began walking back to camp.

And that was where he stood now, silent and unsure of his place with the rest of the clan.

Briarleaf grumbled as she made her way through the thick undergrowth of Eastern RainClan territory. The foxes were very likely gone, but Sagestar had still ordered her to search on the Eastern part of the territory, which was a pain to get through.

And she found nothing. Not a cobweb, not a single medicinal leaf, not a single, simple, herb.

With a low grumble building in her throat, she started walking to the tree she'd climbed up last time when a bright yellow flower caught her eye.

Coltsfoot!
It wasn't one of the more useful herbs, but at least the search hadn't been a waste.

A rare smile spread on her face, and she pulled the flower up before scrambling up the tree and back to camp.

▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬

Training was not going so well, at least for Sagestar and Linnetpaw.

The way they were currently training was either Linnetpaw or Applepaw would sneak up on the other and then pounce at the right time (claws sheathed, of course.) The two were expected to be honest and only turn if they heard a noise. Linnetpaw wasn't very good at judging the right time to leap or where to step, but Applepaw moved slowly and deliberately, only pouncing when he was sure it was the right time. Sometimes it was little too slow for actual battle or hunting, but on the bright side, he was good at being stealthy.

Eventually, though, Linnetpaw did improve and was able to successfully tackle Applepaw multiple times. They were still mediocre at best after training concluded, but mediocre was better than terrible, and so Sagestar decided that Linnetpaw had passed.

The two cats spoke excitedly about their training next moon as they headed back to camp, and Sagestar and Mallowcloud smiled softly at the two excited young cats.

Swiftpaw growled as once again his mentor shouted for him to come down when he was barely up the tree. Begrudgingly, he obliged but walked over the ginger molly.

"Why do you keep telling me to climb down? I'm doing fine! Are the branches weak up high or something? I could just switch trees!"

Wasppelt was silent for a few moments before speaking.
"I... I know I was the one who hurt your paw."

Swiftpaw jerked back in shock.
"Oh! But... that was a few moons ago. Why is it still bothering you?"
Wasppelt glanced down.
"Before we came here, I had a mate. He was the leader of a group of rogues - far off from RainClan territory, don't worry. He hated Applepaw because he was the only kit that survived out of my litter. The... other kittens in my litter looked more like him, and he didn't want a kit who looked nothing like him to be his heir. One day... I decided I had to keep my kit safe, so I invited my mate on a walk. There was a river in our little piece of territory, and..." she swallowed. "I pushed him in and held him under. I couldn't let him hurt my kit, not anymore. When word got out that I'd killed the leader, the rest of the rogues turned on me and I took my son and fled. I couldn't stand the thought that I had caused the very thing to happen to one kit that I protected another from."

Swiftpaw blinked wildly, unsure how to respond to the molly's story.

Wasppelt beat him to the next word.
"Go on. I want to see how high you can climb."

Her voice was cheerful, but her amber eyes betrayed her true emotions.

Briarleaf watched as the clan all gathered together in the main camp, her tail flicking back and forth as Sagestar spoke.
"Alright, you may all eat while I speak. There will be a hunting patrol consisting of Mallowcloud, Linnetpaw, Applepaw, Wasppelt, and Ashnose. There will also be a regular patrol of myself, Dusttail, Dunnockpelt, and Swiftpaw. Mallowcloud and I discussed it, and for their final lesson, Applepaw and Linnetpaw will be learning how to properly swim. Wasppelt, I trust your judgment in training Swiftpaw. The choice is yours. Briarleaf, could you hunt for herbs? You may search anywhere this time."

Briarleaf grinned. She'd be searching off from the river this time. There was a herb used for kitting somewhere there, and Campionclaw's kits would be coming any time now.

As if on queue, there was a yowl from the nursery, and then a shout for Briarleaf.
The RainClan medicine cat raced into the nursery in a panic.
"Herb hunting can wait!"

Birdstar stood back as she watched the small patrol follow the scent. "How's the trail going?" she asked loudly.
"Seems like it's going through there," Dapplecloud replied, her head turned towards a bush. Birdstar nodded and the group slowly crouched towards the bush. They were being as quiet as possible so they didn't scare the injured cat away. With Dapplecloud in front, they came closer and closer to the bush. Suddenly, two small cats jumped out. The patrol fell back in surprise.

"Please help us!" the ginger one shouted.
"Our mama is hurt!" the other, a tortoiseshell, wailed. Birdstar stepped forward.
"Please show us and we will bring you all somewhere safe." The little cats lead the group inside the bush and to their mother. She was seriously injured and looked lifeless.
"Birdstar, this is the cat," Mothdapple announced.
"We better bring her to camp quick," she nodded. Birdstar, Mothdapple and Dapplecloud carried the injured she-cat while Hailmask reassured her kits. They were quite far away from camp but they moved as fast they could.

When they were close, Hailmask and the kits went first to get help. Rabbitnose was already waiting for their arrival. A couple more warriors helped bring the injured she-cat into the medicine cat den. Once she was in, Rabbitnose ordered for everyone to give them space. The clan became quiet with their arrival. However, Birdstar brought the kits into her den. She made them feel relaxed as she told them about clan life.
"Your mother will recover fine. Rabbitnose is very skilled," she told them.
"I've never heard of cats using medicine before. Not from mama's stories at least," the ginger one said.
"It's quite useful, actually. Now then, do you two have names?" she asked. They both nodded and introduced themselves as Hazel and Lily.
"Those are nice names. I am Birdstar, the leader of Acornclan. I've told you a little about it already but what do you think? Would like to stay here? You'll be safe," she said. The two looked at each other.
"If mama is safe then we will stay," Lily replied. Birdstar gave a kind smile.
"Allow me to show you around."
She lead them out and showed them around. As they were apprentice age, she also gave them their new names and mentors. Bloomseed and Stormpetal were very excited. Before they left to train, she asked one more thing. "By the way, does your mother have a name?"
"Hmm..." Hazelpaw thought. "Daddy would call her Pale-eyes..."
"Oh, you have a father? Where is he?" she gasped.
"He got trapped in those weird things. Mama hurt herself trying to save him. We haven't seen him since then," Lilypaw said. A look of sympathy came over Birdstar's face.
"I'm sorry to hear that. Nothing like that will ever happen again,"she said. "Anyway, you can be on your way now." They smiled and followed their new mentors out.

Birdstar turned back around to find something else to do. Bramblestep approached her, followed by a tabby cat she hadn't seen before. "We find this apprentice on patrol. Would like to show him around?"
She smiled and did the whole thing again.

The Clan that Prowls the Night

The cats of OwlClan are nocturnal, just like their Clan's namesake bird of prey. They are well adapted to the darkness, their dark pelts and sharp vision helping them in their search for prey that prowl at night. They also put stealth as their most important training skill, so they may sneak up on prey as silently as an owl when it swoops down to catch prey. Their pelts are usually dull, with the most common pelts being black, gray, and brown, to blend into their surroundings at night. White cats are the rarest, though not unheard of.

OwlClan lives beside a lake not unlike the ones the original clans lived in, which provides them with water, prey, and temperate conditions to live in. Their camp is located in a protected gorge nearby, with the long-abandoned badger setts being used as their dens. These dens have been, over the years, extensively refitted and reinforced to allow for long-term living by these cats.

The cats of OwlClan claim they are descended from a clan called NightClan and a tribe called the Tribe of the Shining Lake. These groups of cats lived side by side, many countless seasons ago, until one tragedy forced them to come together to form one clan-tribe hybrid known as OwlClan. And as such, these modern Clan cats follow the warrior code of StarClan, but also use the name and tradition systems of the Tribe of the Shining Lake, which retained the traditions of the Ancient cats who came before even the original Tribe of Rushing Water. And as such, the names of the cats have two parts, such as Hawk's Wing and Angry Bee; the leader always has Moon at the end of their name, honoring both their first leader Owl Moon and the fact that the pact between NightClan and Tribe of the Shining Lake leaders had been made under the light of the moon.

OwlClan cats are known to be secretive, proud cats, who rarely interact with outside cats; however, if they decide to trust a non-Clan cat, they do open up quite warmly. These cats are loyal through and through, and will die rather than give up on their Clanmates.

The rank system is as follows: leader, deputy, healer, healer's softpaw, sharpclaws (warriors), softpaws (apprentices), queens, kits, and elders.

Their prey consists of mice, shrews, rabbits, sparrows, and fish (the 2-servings kind).

It was turning out to be the best leaf-fall yet. Not only were there two new clan members, Raccoonmask had found someone who appreciated her stoic and serious nature. His name was Robinsong and he was a light-hearted and carefree cat. He took great pleasure in watching and listening to the many birds who made their homes in the cherry-blossom trees.

The two cats could be seen sitting side-by-side, with their tails entwined together. It had been love at first sight for Robinsong and he was delighted that Raccoonmask was returning his affections. She even came out of her shell a little bit, crooning to him and telling him how much he meant to her. She had served the clan from the very beginning and always worked hard, so the entire clan was glad to see her enjoying herself now.

There were occasionally still scuffles over Minnowdance - the mollies really were quite interested in him - but at the moment he wasn't returning the affections of anyone, and it left everybody dumbfounded as to why.

The kits are getting big enough that they are almost apprentices now, and surely the clan will be very busy trying to train all of them! For that reason the hunting patrols begin to really hone their skills, knowing that they will be setting an example for Dappleclan's next generation.

Weather - Leaf-Fall
Autumn/Fall. Summer melted slowly into Autumn, and now
Autumn melts even slower into winter. In fact, many cats -
particularly the youngest - aren't even entirely sure it's really
Leaf-Fall at all. Since when was Leaf-Fall ever this mild? Yes,
there's been frost, and the leaves really are falling, but it
certainly wasn't this mild the last few years.
Prey - and the herbs so prized for the medicine cats - are
holding out far later than they often do, so that many places
still haven't yet fully lost their summer colours. Predators are
still out and active, too. The one thing that really hasn't
changed is that kittings are still getting harder. Many cats are
relaxing about the winter - how bad can it be? - despite the
warnings from their leaders and medicine cats.

It had only been a moon since Badgerstar set roots in the oak forest, claiming the majority of the territory around it as his. During that moon StarClan had graced the large gray and white tom with Flashfire. Flashfire was a large and quiet tom, but very knowledgeable in healing and close to Starclan. Badgerstar was grateful to have such a tom has his clan's medicine cat. Glancing over at the other tom cat, Badgerstar rose to his paws and gave a small nod. "I'm going to patrol. See if I can't find any cats on the way. I assume you'll gather herbs to stock up on." he meowed. Flashfire only nodded before heading off on his own.

weather: leaf-fall.
during leaf-fall, it will start to get colder, so the amount of prey you will catch will go down. the sun will start going down earlier and earlier and this will continue into leaf-bare. kittings will start to get a little bit harder, so make sure to stock up on kitting herbs like fennel, chervil, ragwort leaves and raspberry leaves. you will also run into predators more often now.

LEAF-FALL
A chill starts to creep in the air, signaling the end of Greenleaf and the beginning of Leaffall. As the days become shorter and the skies turn to a dead grey, it's time for the Clans to start working harder and stockpiling prey for the coming Leafbare. Cherish the last few warm breezes that Greenleaf is leaving behind, they won't be around for much longer.

Small note: Around August 20th, I go to college, so my schedule for posting will be Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday. Please pm me if I missed your clan. I'm less likely to miss your clan if you put somewhere on your post that I am your mod.
