To'kalay stalked through the snowy forest. Exploring its hidden depths. He had had come to this hidden valley in search of a Dowt to make his own. He left his old Dowt after the two-skins had destroyed his family, friends, and life. Now he was off to create a new life.

Callista woke with the sun, stretching under the warm rays that peered in through the open window, bathing her in light. She shook her head, tongue licking at her muzzle as she appreciated the gentle hug of heat, before it would become overwhelming in the early afternoon. Getting to her paws, she looked over the sleeping form of Rhea, her cubs nestled against her rising chest. Although they all understood this house was her den alone, she wanted to keep a close eye on the new mother and this shelter seemed to keep a more regulated temperature than the others. Allowing them to continue resting, she quietly hopped onto the window, using her vantage point to gaze out over the territory. The sun was just beginning to rise, bathing half of the town in soft light, leaving the rest in the shadows.

Below her, Alekos appeared from one of the other houses, Felix trailing behind him sleepily. The leopard caught Callista's scent and he peered up at her, flicking his tail in greeting before he ascended up the stairs towards her, approaching the window. "Morning," he purred, lifting his head to enjoy the warmth of the sun. "I was about to leave on a hunt, but I was thinking...I'd like to take Felix with me. Just to watch," he quickly added, aware that both Callista and Rhea had become fond of the lynx cub. "He's getting older, we need to teach him his duties." Callista thought for a moment, looking down at the cub who yawned loudly, shaking the sleep out of his head - he was certainly getting bigger and Alekos was right, he needed to learn how to survive.

"Alright," she agreed, much to the delight of both toms. "But keep an eye on him. I don't want him over-heating again," she spoke softly, a tinge of worry in her words. Alekos assured her he would come right back if anything seemed off before they both left, Felix boucning around his legs.

With both toms gone, Callista settled in to the window, lounging comfortably while she kept guard.

When the two returned from their hunt, they had grown to three. Tagging along with them was the ocelot that had helped Alekos the day before. Callista hopped down from her spot in the house to join the group, blinking momentarily at the familiar stranger before swiftly looking over Felix, who giggled at her cold probing nose. Content that he was just as healthy as he had been before he left, she took to the matter of the other cat. "Do you help with hunts often or is this a new thing for you?" She questioned teasingly, but was met with a rather lackluster, simple 'no' from the tom.

"I've decided to join you," he announced rather dully, prowling past her to reach the top of the staircase. Callista watched him with curious, narrowed eyes as he took in the territory, pausing momentarily before he slipped away under the cover of the mercenary den. Thoroughly confused, she glanced back at Alekos who seemed just as curious about the ocelot tom. "His name is Osias," is all he had to offer before following in the new cat's footsteps, Felix trailing behind him. The young cub halted mid-step, realizing after a moment that he'd rather play with Callista than the other, older toms.

Callista hummed fondly as the little one began to tell her of his hunt with Alek, exaggerating every detail. How they had seen prey of all kinds, from these biiiiig scary birds, to tiny little lizards that scurried under the sand before they could even reach them. Nestling into one of the clay steps, she listened, adding in little "hmm"s and "wow"s when they were called for. Felix's loud, excited voice began to fade, drawing the she-cats attention to his face, a brief spark of worry welling up in her chest. His golden eyes were wide in wondermont, and she followed his line of sight to the form of a larger lynx, standing at the entrance of the village. "Momma!" Felix cried out, running to the stranger. They exchanged affections breifly and Callista stood, watching as the older lynx groomed her child with fervor. The moment was short-lived as the mother turned her narrowed gaze to the young queen, approaching her with a lowered growl.

"You. You stole my little boy," she hissed, her ears laying flat against her skull, claws extending in a warning. Callista stood, backing up and gaining her distance. Panic coursed through her; what could she do? She wasn't big enough to defend herself, not that she wanted to - this was Felix's mother. Alekos and Osias hadn't caught wind of the situation either, leaving only the three of them.

"I didn't," she answered meekly, wrapping her tail tightly around her legs. Bright olive eyes darted off of the femme, landing on the sight of the lynx cub she had loved dearly since he arrived. A surge of strength hit her - what was she doing? She was a queen. How could she hope to protect her dowt if she cowered at the aggression of another? Callista stood straight and proud, steeling herself as she spoke. "I found him, here. He was overheating, so I brought him in so I could ensure his survival. I adore Felix and I would never keep him from his family. I only wanted to keep him safe."

This confession seemed to soften the cub's mother and she pulled away, looking to her son for some sort of confirmation. Perhaps it was his healthy status that convinced her he was alright. Although she was no longer threatening Callista, she was by no means ready to act friendly. "Thank you for looking after him, but I'll be taking him back home." She picked her son up in her mouth, turning to leave, but Callista protested and she paused, glancing back at her with narrowed eyes.

It wasn't as though she had any right to request it, but Callista asked anyway. She had grown to care for Felix, and she couldn't just let him go without spending one last day with him. "Please. Stay tonight. It's a hot day and we have shelter and food." She pleaded, hoping that might help convince her. "I would like to spend a little more time with him." Callista glanced down at her paws, willing to show a hint of weakness, if it perhaps persuaded the dame that she was of no harm to either of them. Felix certainly helped, bounding over to Callista and begging his momma to let him stay.

"Fine," she huffed. "For tonight."

"Hello!" a voice called confidently, causing birds to flock in every direction. A leopard was sitting in a tree above them. As they looked up the leopard jumped down. "What might you be doing in the woods?" he asked smoothly. "Patrolling. And you?" Valerie continued casually. She clearly wanted a new dowt member. "Just hunting, ladies. However I didn't catch anything that I could share. Just a leaf and a pretty patrol." his gaze was warm as he smiled at them. "Where are you going to go now?" Valerie asked, her gaze flicking towards the direction of the dowt. "I'm not sure, maybe I could come with you?" he asked. Valerie nodded shyly. "sure."

To'kalay stalked through the eerie forest, on the look out for prey. His soft paws touching the ground then rising without so much as a sound. He swiveled his head from side to side hoping to catch the tell-tail sings of movement. His ears were perked to detect the slightest noise. But something was wrong. There was not the slightest sign of prey. It was if they knew he was coming and had fled. To'kalay paused beneath the outstretched arm of an oak tree. Something had caught his interest. Paw prints had been scattered across the ground, and upon closer inspection a few stay tufts of hair were caught in the bushes lining the clearing. Obviously this had been used as a hideaway for another tiger. No wonder there was no prey around, it was all scared off or eaten. Suddenly, a chuff sounded from above To'kalay, eliciting a startled growl from him and making his ears lay back. Looking above he saw a great female tiger draped across the branch laughing with a mischievous glint in her eyes.

a dowt of strictly lions, tigers, snow leopards and cheetahs. they reside in a valley, with mountains almost too steep to climb. a water fall, on the north side, cascades down into a river, which runs the length of the west part of the valley. their camp is located uder a rock overhang by said waterfall, the weaker of cadencia residing in caves inside the mountain where the overhang lies, while the stronger live in underground dens. a forest of oak and cedar grow between the river and the mountain of the east side, from the edge of the water fall to a clearing right before the end of the valley.

behavior

cadencia is a very unsocial dowt, even though they can be very loud and talkative between themselves. they are very trustworthy but find it hard to trust those outside their allies and dowt.

traditions

a lowpaw must kill a elk, swim across the river, and climb one of the mountains before promotion.
as soon as their cubs are weaned, mothers go back to their past rank.
every full moon 2 couples make take a break from their duties
high ranks have an assigned mate, low levels may do as they wish.
