Dark Leaves Kennel

The Dark Leaves Kennel lives in a large forest with no borders to any other kennel. The forest is relatively normal, except for a ring of dead trees in the very center. If you enter these trees without permission, it is said that you are cursed for eternity. Only the Alpha, Shaman, and graduating Smallhowls can enter without being cursed. Sometimes, with the Alpha's permission, the Beta can enter.

The Dark Leaves Kennel is known for being cunning. intelligent, and closed off. However, as they are bordered by no other kennels, it sometimes is wrong. Dark Leaves is usually snappish and hostile to outsiders, but will take in any promising dog. Their Kennel Den is located in a medium sized underground cave made by a river long ago. The main entrance is a hole in the ground, which is always guarded so no predator or stranger can sneak in. The tunnel goes straight to the main cave. The Preyhole sits in the center, and is a hollowed out hole in which prey is dropped for eating. Tunnels leading off of the cave lead to smaller dens. The Alpha and Beta share a tunnel, but have opposite caves on the left side of the entrance. The back of the tunnel used to continue on, but a cave in long ago left it blocked. The three Shamans share a tunnel on the right side of the entrance. A smaller tunnel right next to it leads to a small crack in which water trickles, for the Shamans use. The tunnel in the far right corner leads to the Milk-Place, where Skybringers raise their pups. A tunnel in the very back leads to the Smallhowl's tunnel. A tunnel right next to it leads to the Reliants den. Reliants are the dogs who bring food and battle intruders. On the left side, a tunnel leads to the Ancients den, in which retired dogs rest. On the right, a Helper's den sits and Omega's den sits. Helper's are dogs that were Reliants who got to permantly maimed or can't be a Reliant for other reasons. They learn how to take care of pups, help Shamans, and help Ancients. The Omega can be born into a lowly family of the Kennel, or can be put in that position because of a horrible crime. It is worse then being Cast Out, or killed.

Those picture-perfect sunsets and scolding hot days are past us all now.
Those blue skies, happy cries... Now, the work begins. As the days become
shorter and the skies turn a withering gray, the kennels must muster up
the muscles beneath their now plump skins and work through the fall. This
year in particular does not seem to be a good one, so be advised to
stock up on both herbs and prey.

concerns: rising sickness, slowly dwindling prey and herbs,
birthing becomes slightly more dangerous.

seasonal prey: deer and hog are known to become common
as autumn prevails, so if the kennels are ready for the challenge then
they are expected to go after these creatures.

The large German Shepherd paced his little Kennel Den. He needed dogs to make it a true kennel, anyways. Maybe starting a group hadn't been the best idea. But then, Tenor was free. He had always been, but if he found other dogs like him, it would help him a lot. He had a feeling he was meant to be a pack dog.

"I suppose I should scout my territory, make sure no intruder decides to interrupt the Dark Leaves. Then hunt. I am hungry." The large dog stood.

Tenor shook out his fur and then left his den when an idea hit him. He would go to the Ancestor Ring! The Ancestor Ring was a perfect circle of dead trees, and in the middle, a dog could speak to his ancestors. Since he was an Alpha, Tenor could talk to his ancestors freely, with no curse. So he headed out.

Regina trotted back to the new den area, carrying the squirrel she caught tightly in her mouth. She shook her head, getting rid of all the branches and leaes stuck to her fur before trecking down into the den. She placed the squirrel in the middle of the main room area where the mouse was laying. She nodded to Arizona who was putting herbs away in her small alcove.

Regina crawled back out of the tunnel and went back into the forest. She needed more fighters to hunt for the clan. She looked around for signs of animals moving through the brush, and a broken stick caught her eye. It was fresh, newly stepped on. She could smell the slight trace of dog behind it. She hoped that the dog who was going this way was female, or else she would be worried.

Regina followed behind the trail for a while, noticing the dog was slowing down. She paused in the middle of a small clearing, sniffing, knowing that the trail was ending here. Where was the dog? She heard a growl behind her, "I'm not looking for a fight. But I'll give you a good one if that's what you want!"

Regina whipped around and narrowed her eyes, "A fight eh?" She shook her coat with delight at the female wolfhound. "No thanks. I know a wolfhound when I see one."

The female chuckled. "Yeah? Alright. So why have you been following me?"

Regina stepped forward. "I am the Queen of a pack of dogs on this side of the mountain. All females. No males. Would you like to join?"

The female thought for a second then groaned, "Sure. Why not. What have I got to loose?"

Regina smirked, "Great! I'm Regina."

➫ "Make good use of your place among the Nemphilin Alliance, Rue." The Council chanted, followed by a nod from the great Raziel. "We will be here to watch and guide your every move."

➬ While patrolling the Southern border, everything seemed to be going just fine from the beginning. Isadora walked about, occasionally lowering her nose to the ground to sniff for trespassers, or possibly her next meal. Just about an hour into the patrol, a shuffling in the undergrowth grasped her attention. She snapped her head up just in time to encounter a rogue lunging toward her, their teeth bared in aggression. After some back and forth attacks and blocks, the rogue slumped defeated against a tree... they beg for her mercy and claim that they will serve at their paws as a warrior. Will Isadora accept them, or show them no mercy?

➫ Rue wanders around aimlessly, not really accomplishing anything. She finds nothing on her patrol.

➬ The lone dog, through much trail and error, ascends to Shadowhunter!

➫ Rue and Isadora manage to scrounge out two mice while they hunt! The duo head back to camp, complaining of their minuscule catch, when they come across a loner! They are rather calm, addressing the pair as no threat toward them and asks to join. Isadora notices that the dog is thin and likely dehydrated, needing time to regain their strength. Will they take in the loner, or leave them to starve?

➫ The morning hunt is rather calming for the group, as they cruise around conversing among themselves. Suddenly, a scuffling in the leaves catches their attention, and they all spring into action. At the end of the hunt, the group managed to catch a deer!

➬ The evening hunt was going well. Bumper had caught a mouse, and Poppy, accompanied by Milo, took down a rabbit! However, as the night went on, there was a strange scent that caught Shade's attention. The group follows along, and they all come across a dog named Queenie!

➫ The morning patrol goes smoothly, but they encounter nothing.

➬ The evening patrol managed to snuff-out Sonaro and Koda!

➫ Lily and Milo head out, both hoping for the best, but they find nothing.

➬ Milo learns gathering!

➫ Flash waits and waits, wondering if the stars had not heard his plea. As he stares up into the stars, a muffled woof enters his ears. Flash finds the dog sent to him by the stars, a male White German Shepherd

➬ Carla spends many hours trying and trying, but her labor does not go as smoothly as she wanted... four beautiful puppies were born, but only two of them lived to see another day. Carla and Shade mourn their lost pups, but are ready to nurture and raise their living pups. ( Lily, the shaman, predicts that Carla may have a condition that purposefully gives her problems when it comes to giving birth...She hides this information from the new mother in order to keep her relaxed and focused on her newborns. )

➫ Sandy gives birth to four pups in counting! Lily congratulates the new mother as she helps to tend to her. Sandy thanks Lily for her help and care, then goes to nursing her newborns.

➫ Kaelys begins to get frustrated, continuously pushing Kalsang on and on throughout their training for hours. In the end, Kalsang fails to learn advanced combat, and the two separate for some much needed time apart.

➬ Beau, Bronco, and Montana encounter a strange scent while on patrol. Bronco becomes aggressive, and suggests that they should all go out and track down the scent, claiming it is a threatening rogue. Will the group follow, or return?

➫ The training session goes smoothly, and it seems that these apprentices have the hang of things! Fleck and Cason learn advanced hunting.

➬ Cho-Lynn, Montana, Rerria, and Cason start their hunt peacefully. They trudge along, searching for anything on the horizon. Unfortunately, they return home empty-handed, and spend the night sulking among each other.

➫ Chaser, Bryan, and Lucky's patrol was going perfectly. They all managed to snuff-out plenty of herbs, more than they could carry, and they started to leave the ones they had gathered stashed away in places where they could return and pick up later, when they had more room to carry. As time goes on, Bryan insists that the group continue on in their search. By then, it was already late, and the other two were growing weary. Suddenly, Bryan springs forward, heading after a scent he said was suspicious. The other two, exhausted by their entire day of gathering, lose Bryan as they try to follow and cannot find him. Darkness spills over the area and they still cannot find Bryan. The two wait, helplessly calling out his name, waiting. As the sun peaks over the horizon, Chase and Lucky sprint home and leave behind the bundles of herbs they had left behind. They warn those at the camp of what had happened and still, Bryan had not returned. Had this scent, perhaps, been the same one that the patrol earlier on had caught?

➬ Bronco, Pebble, Fleck, Kaelys, and Kalsang are helplessly weighed down by a constantly bickering Kaelys and Kalsang, of whom were still unhappy over their last training session. Kalsang eventually leaves the hunting party and heads back to camp, unable to take any more of Kaelys's ridicule. In the end, the hunting party returns with a mouse and a bird.

They spend quite a bit of time on their trip, but end up coming back with nothing and a dog with a twisted paw! Veradis claims that she tripped and twisted the paw, her front on the left, by freak accident. In order for her paw to heal, she will need to be treated by their healer and, as recommended, one moon of rest, in order to not strain injury more than it already is. If this is not given, Veradis could very well lose all ability in the paw, therefore disabling her... What will be done?

The hog was successfully caught and brought back to camp. Seria and her pups sat waiting for them at the entrance. The pups were excited when they arrived and Seria was very pleased.
"Great work team! We can save it for later. I take it everything went well?" she asked.
"Mostly yes but Bohemian injured his paw," Sol explained.
"Ah! Tulip better see it then," she said and he nodded in reply. From behind them, the other dogs were starting to listen and congratulate the patrol. Maena started to laugh.
"What's so funny?" Hana asked from beside her.
"Oh, I'm just laughing about how Bohemian was bragging about being good at catching hogs and he is the only one that hurt himself," she giggled.
"Oh... Haha, that is pretty funny!" she smiled.
"Alright, that's enough Maena..." Kierat sighed.
"Fine," she said before giggling again.

Bohemian rolled his eyes and went over to where Tulip kept her herbs. She was giving Ilia a test and as far as he could see, she was getting it correct. Tulip turned to him when she noticed him.
"Hello, there. May we offer any assistance?" she said, almost in a tone that sounded like she was mocking him.
"Uh, yeah... I was trodden on by the um... The hog..." he replied, swallowing what little pride he had left.
"Let me take a look then. Ilia, come watch," she ordered. Ilia nodded and the little dog followed. As Tulip examined his paw she was mumbling under her breathe to Ilia. Ilia nodded along with her words and even said what she thought was right.
"Do we need any herbs?" she asked after a long while.
"No, this looks all fine. You just need to rest," Tulip said and looked up at him.
"Thank you," he bowed. Then he scampered away to save himself from any more embarrassment.

Bella was still annoyed about not being able to join the hog patrol but she was still pleased to go on her own patrol. She was given the chance to lead a patrol and chose a couple friends to come with you. Then Pippa suddenly invited herself along. Bella didn't mind that much. Pippa was an okay dog but she did say a couple mean things here and there. So far, all was well though. The patrol stopped to rest. Pippa dragged Rowan aside as Bella and Kanan were left to themselves.

"Am I the only one who notices that Pippa drags Rowan around a lot? Like if he is with someone else she will take him away from them," Bella thought aloud.
"Huh... Now that I think about it, that does happen a lot," Kanan replied.
"Not gonna lie, it's getting on my nerves. I can't talk to Rowan that much," she sighed.
"Then why not do the same thing, haha," he suggested with a giggle.
"I'm not stooping to her level," she quietly growled.
"You'll get your chances. Why? Do you want to talk about something with Rowan?"
"Nah. I just want to chat is all. Just like friends," she said.
"That's true," he nodded. He got to his paws and did a shake. "Should we get moving?"
"Sure," she smiled. Kanan called for Rowan and Pippa and they both came running. They finished off their patrol before coming home where they could rest.

Hurricane Rains is on a rocky moor in Germany that over looks a deep ravine. The ravine can only be crossed by a giant ancient fallen maple, the bark and leaves completely ripped away. Other then that its a straight drop to certain death. Hurricane Rains’s camp is a site, its located just at the edge of the rocky hills. The camp is perfect for protecting young kits. The top of the waterfall is the monarchs den and the den at the bottom of the waterfall is the shaman den. The hole in the middle of camp is where prey is sorted, the prey sorters watches the prey day and night; bramble patches mixed with bracken and holly bush branches cover the prey pile when it starts rain or snowing, (which is very common) if it gets too bad its dragged into the shaman den (which is very extensive despite its looks).
The queens den is located at the top of the ledge in the hole in the rocky wall, they picked this den because of the safeness of the ledge. Enemy dogs can easily be pushed off the ledge and twist their necks, Hurricane Rains dogs have too narrow paws to be pushed off but if they are pushed off they have a higher chance of not twisting their necks. The left den under the ledge is the elders den, it was highly debated whether or not to switch this den with the queens den but it was decided against. The iron-tooths den is the right den under the ledge and the mountain-laurel bush is the apprentices den; both dens bigger than they look. Prey sorters and deputies share the same den

Hurricane Rainers are known for their trials; The Hurricane trial, The Herbal trial, and the Prey sorter trial.

The Hurricane trial is the trial for the apprentices turning to full iron-teeth. The apprentices will be lead to the perfect river, they will be left to swim across the lake. The parents, if any, the mentor, and their monarchs will wait for the apprentices to cross. Either the apprentice with drown and be dragged out by their mentor or they will pass. In some cases, apprentices just have to do the normal assessments because of a physical or mental problem like twisted paws or other problems. If any apprentice is found out to get help they must wait 3 more moons until they will take the test again, if they cheat again they will be forced to survive 5 moons by themselves. If they come back they will have the lowest respect in the iron-teeth rank.

The Herbal trial is the trial for the shamans and shaman tenderpaws. It's taken every 12 moons to test the knowledge and reliability of their herbal carers, so that dogs don’t die due to not knowing how to treat them. Sometimes it's taken early because of a death of a patient or accusations of herbal idioteces in the practices of the shaman.

The Prey sorter trial is the trial for prey sorters and their apprentices. Its taken everytime newleaf is reached or when they take a apprentice or another apprentice. The prey sorters will be judged on their ability to pass the correct amount to everyone fairly. The apprentices to full prey sorters will be made to deal with a full moon of passing out prey themselves, if they mess up they will wait 1 moon until they can do it again. In that time they will receive intense training.

All ranks are in German. They have monarchs instead of Alphas. If a monarch dies but their mate is still alive they will retire to the elders den. After a beta takes over their mate becomes the other monarch.

They are known to be strict but loving. They are also loose on mates rules; Shamans can take a mate if their apprentice is fully grown and can take care of the clan if they were to have kits. Other dogs in other kennels are also acceptable as normal mates, unless the iron-tooth has a tenderpaw.

They are known for having narrow paws and long claws, they also are known for having webbed paws.

She turned her head to see Mickey, the new softdog that had joined this moon. He was a big ol’ fluffy giant. However, he wouldn’t dare hurt a thing, earning him the place of a softdog. She gave him a friendly smile. He looked at her sadly and sat down. “What’s wrong, Echo?” He asked gently, bending down so he could be at eye level. Echo smiled and shook her head. “Nothing.” She told him “You don’t have to waste your time on me.” But he didn’t move. “What’s wrong.” Mickey repeated “I’ve got all day and the patience of a turtle. Spill.” He sat back on his paws and got settled down beside her, making it clear he was going to help her. Echo laughed and gave him a sweet smile. “It’s just. I really like this dog-” she started. “Denali. You like Denali. Don’t try to hide it, it’s rather obvious. I don’t know how he hasn’t noticed.” Mickey cut her off. His words made Echo’s face burn in embarrassment. “Y-yes.” She agreed “I like Denali. But it seems like I’ll never get him. Starting out with already a group of canines was challenging, sure, but Sharla definitely felt nothing but sheer determination for her pack. Softening her gaze, she softly sauntered over to Mercutio, careful not to disturb anyone. "Organize patrols after we eat. I need to ask of something from our ancestors." Sharla spoke in a hushed voice. Mercutio twitched his tail, but nodded. "Of course."

"Saskia and I will go hunting. Kaleb, can you handle a border patrol by yourself?" Mercutio questioned, and Kaleb replied in a nod. "Brilliant. Sharla has gone to our ancestors, asking for a new member, I presume." He added in a softer voice, his eyes flitting from the guardians to the camp's entrance, where Sharla had left to go ask her ancestors of a topic that was never confirmed.
