Five dogs strode through the thick forest underbrush, each —except for one— exuding their own aura of distinctive power. They were a unit of hardworking machines, with layers of brawny muscle rippling underneath their coats. A fleet of soldiers amidst the strange forest that stretched out beyond.

indentA blenheim cavalier dashed alongside of the group, their doe-like eyes brimming with excitement and tongue lolling joyously. They were noticeably smaller than them all, and seemed to have to run while the others walked in a slow gait.

indentThe spaniel came to a crashing halt after a few more minutes of running gleefully, wheeling around to look at her much larger friends. “I heard something! Out there!” She barked, letting her feathery tail gesture towards bushes.
indent“Mira, there is absolutely nothing out there, so can you stop giving us this crap?” Costello snapped, his usual hotheaded nature shining through.
indentDiablo released a low growl of warning to Costello, his amber gaze burning into the pitbull. The doberman was incredibly protective over his dear cavalier friend Mira, whom was quite the opposite of him. “Can you shut up, mutt? In case your deaf ears can’t hear it, there is something in the bushes. ”
indentCostello silenced a whine that was bubbling up inside him, knowing that his actions would cost him. He dropped his eyes from Diablo and instead focused his attention on the bush.

indentA streak of silver fur was visible through the leaves of the plant, and soon the body of the dog was visible as they miserably attempted to crawl away. They were incredibly skinny, each rib easily visible under their thin, mangy coat. They were a threat, even then. And threats needed to be eliminated.
indentCostello and Aries glanced at Diablo for a moment, waiting for his approval before charging towards the scraggly dog, snarls erupting from their mouths. Diablo watched with a smirk, while Mira and Daedalus gazed with horror. Daedalus hid his alarm well.

indent“Diablo! They’re going to hurt him!” Mira cried.
indentDiablo looked down at her. “Um, Yes... They are.”
indentMira’s eyes widened. “No! That’s an inoccent dog!”
indent“They’re on our territory.”
indent“This isn’t our territory at all! Diablo, you have to stop them!” She cried as the bloodcurdling whines and pleas of help from the weak loner filled the air. “How are you this way, you weren’t like this when I came to the pack!”
indentThe doberman shook his head. “That’s different.”
indentMira looked into his eyes, her honey orbs full with emotion. “How? How, Diablo?”
indentDiablo suddenly looked uncomfortable, and after a prolonged period of silence he released a booming bark, commanding his soldiers to step away. “Stop! Let the dog live.”

indentCostello and Aries stepped back from the wounded hound and disappeared into the trees after Diablo dismissed them with a curt nod.
The loner was breathing unevenly and seemed terrified, although thankful. They glanced weakly at the looming doberman. “Thank... Thank you... I am Arrow. I thought that the forest... the forest had sent another demon hound to kill me.”
indent“The forest? My soldiers must have beaten you up quite badly if you’re imagining things. ” Diablo replied.
indent“No, No.. It was this forest.. It’s cursed, it’s all cursed..” The brute slumped to the ground after that, seemingly unable to hold his own weight for any longer. However, he managed to say a few more words. “Thank you for letting me live, I am indebted to you.”
indent“I did not do this for you. I did this for her. So if you are indebted to anyone, it is her.” Diablo gestured towards Mira, who was watching Diablo intently. The doberman smiled softly, watching as she returned the smile with her own adoring grin.

They were home. Through torrent storms, deadly fires and cursed lands. They had found their haven, high in the mountains. A place uninhabited by humans, the only mark of their existence a luxurious castle, one that once held nobility. Kings and Queens graced these lands, and now, royalty had returned.

indent“So,” Mira breathed, gazing up at the top of the castle, that was covered in a veil of mist, as the empire advanced. The journey to the castle itself proved to be difficult, for their was a long stretch of garden that was almost maze-like. It sported high hedges and stone arches, as well as beautiful fountains. It seemed to be almost never ending. “This is where our journey ends.”
indent Diablo looked around him for a fleeting moment before gesturing to a hole in one of the hedges, quickly squeezing his body through it. Mira followed suit. The doberman seemed more at ease now that they were alone, rather than the rest of the kennel watching them as they spoke. He already knew some were speculating what was going on between them.
indent“No,” Diablo replied. He looked at Mira with a tender expression, shaking his head momentarily. “This is where our journey starts. This is all ours, and soon, it will be our pups.”
indentMira tucked her head in her chest, smiling down at her paws at his words. “You’ll need to tell the pack; they deserve to know.”
indent“And they will. Things will change here, and for the better.”
indentMira smiled softly, giving his shoulder a nudge of affection before squeezing through the bushes once again. She watched as Diablo crept through with a bit of struggle, his large body a disadvantage for once. She chuckled before moving in a brisk walk, letting her pelt brush against her mate.


indentA content silence fell upon the pair as they continued through the garden, Mira transfixed with the flowers and nature surrounding them while Diablo kept his gaze sharp, watching the silhouettes of his kennel members across the hedges.

indentThe peace that enveloped the pair did not last, for in just a few moments a volley of piercing howls and barks filled the air, exuding only a fierce mixture of terror and rage.

indentDiablo tore after the baying, with his lovable companion Mira desperately at his heel. Racing through the labyrinth of a garden to reach his pack mates, his only aid the agonizing yelps.
indentHis paws raked through the dirt as the hulking fortress came into view, the entrance visible.

indentLimp across the stone floor, Hugh and the recently rescued weimeraner Arrow lay. Their bodies were lifeless, blood pooling around them with their killer resting a blood stained paw on Hugh’s head. They were a massive dog, bigger than even the brutish kangal Remington. His pelage black as twilight, which accompanied a pair of piercing eyes that matched the colour of the blood of his victims. A scar ran across his right eye, as well as another at the base of his throat.

indent“Greetings. You must be the one that they tell stories about, Diablo.” The male welcomed the doberman smoothly. “Don’t look so surprised that I recognize you, you know me after all. Or at least my father, before you killed him.”
indent"I know nothing of this, you pathetic rogue.” Diablo spat, stalking towards him with his fangs bared. “You have no right to even be in my presence. How dare you kill them!” Diablo’s fury slipped through his words despite the attempts to bottle them down.
indent“Don’t pretend you don’t know him! I am Erebus, son to Anubis.” Erebus suddenly snapped, his eyes glinting with malice. His tone regained it’s smoothness as he continued. “Why do you care for those two? It is just another casualty, another fatality to add to the list. Although, I’ll be pleased if it’s noted that I am the killer, the one who destroyed their lives and the ones that loved them.”
indent“How dare you!” Diablo cried with anger as he launched himself at the much larger male. Diablo went straight for the throat, his fangs tightening around anything he could grab onto while his paws battered the brute, who snarled with fury. The struggle did not last long, for one yelp of agony silenced all others, and soon afterwards, a lifeless body was revealed in the jaws of the other.

indentThe kennel gasped in horror as they looked on at the spectacle, seeing their leader drop onto the two other bodies.
indent“But his nine lives! He hasn’t even used one!” A dog cried out in protest, unable to wrap their head around the death.

“In the end, everything dies. Even that precious mutt you called your leader with his special nine lives. I imagine you didn’t think he’d die, at least not at the hands of a.. what did he call me? Pathetic rogue?. Well, well, you really shouldn’t underestimate me. It might just be the last thing you do.” Erebus purred. “Now, shall we get to the reason I’m here? Or would you prefer another body to drop before that,” His words, although holding a light tone, were as sinister as one could come across. The massive dog was not in the joking mood, and was telling quite the truth.

indent“We will never back down without a fight!” Atticus growled, charging towards Erebus.

The mighty jaws of the dog clamped over the tender flesh of the malinios’s throat, crushing him in a swift motion that appeared effortless. The empire watched in horror as his body soon became limp, and as the lethal grip of Erebus loosened Atticus crumbled onto stone. Lifeless. Just like the others.

“Look around you, see my rogues? They are my guards, and will kill those who act against me without so much as a blink of sympathy. See me? I am your ruler, no one else. ” He growled gravely, his deep voice echoing throughout the kennel. “The life of the Vehementi Empire is dead. It will never rise, and will become another kennel that went up in flames. The time of my kennel, has risen.”

“So either join the Imperium of Ira Vehementi or die.”

Waking up and having a stranger staring at you wasn't the most welcome thing and Soot couldn't help but yelp in horror, springing to her paws. ''Be still.'' commanded the grey dog, eyes equally stern and distant; like they were simultaneously right there but also far away, like stars that you tried to chase as a youngster. ''I'm no harm.'' The way she said that made Soot think so otherwise, ears flattened backwards in anxiety. ''A dog told me you'd need a healer, I know herbs.'' By the look of suspicion on the German shepherd's face, the shaman got the feeling that the hound didn't believe her.

''I don't know you.'' Soot snarled quietly, teeth and concerns bared. ''I don't know about you, but I don't tend to trust anyone that watches me while I sleep.'' In the distance, the wind murmured and sighed, tussling with an ancient wind-chime. ''Be on your way, friend.'' Soot hefted herself up, ears twitching. ''I'll be on mine.''

The husky scoffed, eyes bright with gentle amusement. ''If I was any danger, I would've ripped your throat out while you slept.'' She pointed out, her lonely moon-pale eye suddenly rife with anger. ''And I would not have hesitated.'' The carriage groaned on it's wheels, settling on the tracks like a fat cat on a spindly branch. ''Now, you go and hunt while I do something about this pack.'' The husky looked around with derision. ''Not that there's much of one.''

Soot huffed, muzzle bowed as the husky spoke. ''My name's Soot, what about yours?'' She asked, finally daring to talk but the husky was already gone, loping away over the rail-tracks, as silent as a phantom. ''...Okay, I guess.'' Soot muttered, shaking her head. ''I'll just be quiet and hunt.''

the main residences of the ivy guardians are the overwater bungalows of b
ora bora. most of the canines who live here are owned by the others, or hu
mans, but all are dedicated to the guardians, and are dedicated to protect
ing their home. the guardians was first formed by their patron god who no
w walks in the afterlife, octavius, originally just a canine looking to have so
me fun on earth, to cause a little chaos. it became a little gang at first, wi
th just the three original members, but then it evolved into a lifestyle, an
d eventually, the guardians were formed in order to protect their island ag
ainst their ancient enemies, a group as old as the beginning of the guardian
s known as the fire nation, whom still to this day are seeking to overrun th
e overwater bungalows of bora bora and strive to end the guardians all tog
ether. the guardians believe in their gods, and each is known for things, an
d each favors a certain breed of canines. their main fishing ground to them
is kown as octavius’ lagoon, and on top of the mountain shown is their plac
e of ceremonies, festivals, their weekly meeting with the gods, and worship.
deceased guardians are honored by daily group storytelling, and once a we
ek the guardians will travel to the graveyard at the base of the mountain f
or the day of the dead to visit their fallen guardians for a solemn time of re
membering, and a day of feasting in their memories. the most popular tale
s are those of octavius and his defeat of the fire nation’s original leader, a
nd his tales of mischief and laughter always ensures. to become a full mem
ber of the guardians, one must pass the trial of guardians, a full forty eight
hour patrol and watch without eating or sleeping, and pass their final asses
ment of their skills.

because of the private location of the guardians surrounded by the others, p
redators are virtually unheard of. there may be the occasional shark attack,
however only in extremely rare circumstances. most deaths, injuries, and at
tacks are from other situations. most canines of small breeds are not found
here, such as pomeranians and chihuahuas. prey/fresh-kill is found from hun
ting and fishing, either on the forests or in/by octavius’ lagoon. the skills w
hich are available to be learned are as follows: swimming, hunting, combat,
stealth, tracking, among others. swimming is a must and is always the first t
o be taught due to being surrounded by water. can this canine be my next l

For some reason, Agenta knew that something big had happened back at camp. Her gut was twisting uncomfortably as she walked with her patrol back to camp. Apollo was chatting away with Nerrisa, the pup mother who'd they'd set out to find. The happiness in the tired female's eyes brightened up the party, but there was still that feeling she couldn't shake. Her mother kept giving her side glances like all mothers did when they knew. But Agenta just kept her head down and focused on getting back to camp. Through the shadowy forest and soon there the faint sound of voices. Then they arrived and Agenta spotted her father talking to two other dogs she didn't recognize. The feeling in her stomach flared and she perked her ears. The first dog was a lean Dalmatian, his white pelt slicked with mud. His eyes were narrowed as he listened to Ares talk. The second dog...was familiar. Her body posture was rigid and her muzzle was tilted into the air. "Xena!"

Xena, along with the other two, looked towards her as she trotted over. It took a second for the recognition to hit the other dog. "Agenta of the Night Callers." There was a smirk in her voice as she pressed her head to her friend's in greeting. "We meet again." Agenta's tail wagged happily. Xena was here! But why? The thought suddenly occured to her and she noticed that Xena was more tired and skinny than she'd seen at the gathering, but still defiant.

"What happened? Why are you here?" She asked, glancing at the other dog. "Is this your stinky brother?"

The Dalmatian snorted and shook his head. Xena chuckled and shook her head. There was sadness in her expression but she hid it well. "Our kennel sorta dissipated-it broke. Me and Dakota were on patrol and when we came back...everyone was gone. The camp was in ruins."

"I'm sorry." Agenta felt sympathy for her friend and wanted to make it better. So, she picked up her tail and smiled up at her. "Hey, do you want to come hunting with me? I'll show you all the best spots."

Xena's eyes brightened but Ares cleared his throat. "Agenta, you may hunt after we welcome all the newcomers." He said warmly, looking at Dakota, who nodded.

They started away but Xena whispered into her ear. "Thanks, pup." She smiled and trotted away. Agenta felt something warm in her stomach and she joined the assembled dogs as Ares prepared to address them.

There were barks of celebration from the assembled Night Callers. Agenta cheered loudly for her friend and the older dog rolled her eyes but happiness was evident. Ares barked to silence them. "Dakota has informed me that Xena has not completed her final assessment, so he will be taking on the role as her mentor." Xena swung her head in annoyance and Dakota ignored her growling. "Dakota, please step foreward." And he did so, looking up at his new alpha. "Do you swear to teach the ways of the Night Code and pass on your skills to Xena?"

Without missing a beat, Dakota replied, "I swear by the stars." He turned to a reluctant Xena and touched muzzles with her.

Those picture-perfect sunsets and scolding hot days are past us all now.
Those blue skies, happy cries... Now, the work begins. As the days become
shorter and the skies turn a withering gray, the kennels must muster up
the muscles beneath their now plump skins and work through the fall. This
year in particular does not seem to be a good one, so be advised to
stock up on both herbs and prey.

concerns: rising sickness, slowly dwindling prey and herbs,
birthing becomes slightly more dangerous.

seasonal prey: deer and hog are known to become common
as autumn prevails, so if the kennels are ready for the challenge then
they are expected to go after these creatures.

regina felt her way down the long hill, trying to get into the valley below. she had spent many days traveling to find a deserted, unused valley such as this. her long shaggy coat swayed in the wind, and her paws, rough and sturdy, were able to traverse the rocky ground with ease. A small crack from a stick sounded behind her and she froze, and turned around. Behind her, trailing far enough away to be respectable was a large female dog. She had big jowls and thick fur, her paws alone could break regina's back with one swipe. She narrowed her eyes and turned her long head towards the large female. "Why are you following me?"

She could see the female think about how she was going to respond, before shaking her head and clearing her throat, "Curiosity."
Her thick coat was more than enough to protect her from a hard winter, and Regina liked seeing a strong female. She had always dreamed of starting a pack for just females, and this one standing before her looked strong.

"Hmm," She said, careful to not startled the other female, "I'm Regina. This valley is going to become my territory."

The leonberger raised her eyesbrows, "Oh is it? I don't see a pack protecting it."

Regina smiled, "Exactly. Would you like to be the first?"

The other female cocked her head to the side, "It's Lupus, by the way, and sure."

the main residences of the ivy guardians are the overwater bungalows of b
ora bora. most of the canines who live here are owned by the others, or hu
mans, but all are dedicated to the guardians, and are dedicated to protect
ing their home. the guardians was first formed by their patron god who no
w walks in the afterlife, octavius, originally just a canine looking to have so
me fun on earth, to cause a little chaos. it became a little gang at first, wi
th just the three original members, but then it evolved into a lifestyle, an
d eventually, the guardians were formed in order to protect their island ag
ainst their ancient enemies, a group as old as the beginning of the guardian
s known as the fire nation, whom still to this day are seeking to overrun th
e overwater bungalows of bora bora and strive to end the guardians all tog
ether. the guardians believe in their gods, and each is known for things, an
d each favors a certain breed of canines. their main fishing ground to them
is kown as octavius’ lagoon, and on top of the mountain shown is their plac
e of ceremonies, festivals, their weekly meeting with the gods, and worship.
deceased guardians are honored by daily group storytelling, and once a we
ek the guardians will travel to the graveyard at the base of the mountain f
or the day of the dead to visit their fallen guardians for a solemn time of re
membering, and a day of feasting in their memories. the most popular tale
s are those of octavius and his defeat of the fire nation’s original leader, a
nd his tales of mischief and laughter always ensures. to become a full mem
ber of the guardians, one must pass the trial of guardians, a full forty eight
hour patrol and watch without eating or sleeping, and pass their final asses
ment of their skills.

because of the private location of the guardians surrounded by the others, p
redators are virtually unheard of. there may be the occasional shark attack,
however only in extremely rare circumstances. most deaths, injuries, and at
tacks are from other situations. most canines of small breeds are not found
here, such as pomeranians and chihuahuas. prey/fresh-kill is found from hun
ting and fishing, either on the forests or in/by octavius’ lagoon. the skills w
hich are available to be learned are as follows: swimming, hunting, combat,
stealth, tracking, among others. swimming is a must and is always the first t
o be taught due to being surrounded by water. can this canine be my next l

Petunia had her pups and afterwards Tulip sent Ilia away to rest. Tulip tended to the pups and gave them to their mother. "Here you are, four beautiful pups. Two males and two females," she said.
"Thank you... But what about that one?" Petunia asked, titling her head to the limb body of a fifth pup.
"Ah, well..." Tulip stuttered. "They... They didn't make it." Petunia's face looked horrified.
"Wh-what happened?"
"Sometimes these things happen. I believe it's a test from our ancestors to make us stronger. They are mysterious like that. Thankfully though, they have granted life into your remaining pups so they will be fine. The same can be said for you," Tulip nodded to her own words.
"Oh... I see..." Petunia wasn't as convinced but if a shaman said it, it must be true. She looked to her four pups suckling then back to the other one. "Can I give it a name?"
"Of course. They are to be remembered after all," she replied.
"In that case, I give it the name Hope."
"A lovely name," Tulip smiled. "Well, I'll bury it now and I promise it will rest well." Petunia slightly smiled in return. Tulip picked up Hope and then walked out with them. Seria came by in the nursery and gave Petunia congratulations. Then she was left to rest.

The news that hog was scented in their territory was spreading fast. Every dog had heard it of in some way or another. Since the pups, Seria was a little out of touch with the kennel but she heard it too. She was disappointed she couldn't hunt it down (Tulip's AND Sol's orders) but she trusted Sol to handle it. Sol was asking for volunteers and a couple had already stepped up to the challenge.

"I would like to go!" Bella shouted. Sol shook his head.
"No, you should stay out of it."
"What? Why!?" she snapped.
"Remember last time with the bear? You got injured pretty badly," he explained.
"Yeah, but that was a bear! This is a hog. They are two different animals," she shouted.
"I know that but I think you should stay behind just in case. Maybe next time," he said.
"Fine..." she growled and padded away. "Can't believe this..." She plopped herself down next to Rowan and Pippa. Rowan gave her a sympathetic look.
"That's a shame. I think you're one of our toughest ironteeth. You would've been awesome out there," he said.
"I know right..." she whined. "Thanks though."
"Well, maybe he thought you can be a little reckless. That sounds about right," Pippa barked.

Meanwhile, Sol was still looking for volunteers. Rusty wanted to try and Conner and Aster were coming too. Lana agreed too. Now they just needed one more. He resorted to asking everyone up front. Some were busy doing other things and others simply didn't want to go. Finally, Bohemian stepped forward.
"You say you're going to catch a hog? Then I'll come with," he said.
"You sure?" he asked.
"Yeah. I don't mean to brag but I feel like I can bring down a hog," he nodded.
"Great! Then welcome aboard to the hog catching patrol. ...We need a cool name," he said and went back into his thoughts.
"Pfft..." Maena whispered. "Says the one who was scared of something in the forest a couple moons ago." Bohemian perked his ears and slowly turned to her. He walked forward and narrowed his eyes.
"Hey, pipsqueak. What were you saying?"
"What makes you so sure I was talking about you, huh?" she spat.
"Just a feelin'," he growled.
"Well, I wasn't!" she barked.
"Whatever you say..." he said. She stuck her tongue out at him. Kierat sighed from behind her.
"Come on, Maena," he said. "Let's go on patrol."
"Oh, okay!" she smiled and went after her father. Not before turning towards Bohemian and blowing a raspberry. He narrowed his eyes at her and let out a low growl.
"Uh, Bohemian we will be leaving now," Aster said, poking him gently. He turned in surprise.
"Oh, thanks. I'm coming." He got up and followed the patrol out.

regina and lupus felt their way down the path, regina sighed, "I cannot believe we only found one mouse. This territory looked so good!" Her long wavy fur flitted in the wind, as if a small child's had was running its fingers gently through her fur. She shook her body, getting rid of the leaves that had settled on her back.

lupus nodded, "that's true. but then again, this is thick territory and i'm kinda big to be in such a small enclosed area."

regina nodded, "True that. But i'm pretty tall as well."

They kept walking, making their way back to a den they had slowly begun to dug out. A small dog was waiting for them there. "Hello!" She said, keeping her head high and prancing forward with a lot of energy. "I'm Arizona and i'm going to be your medic!"

Regina smiled happily, "Welcome! Did the gods send you?"

Arizona laughed happily, "They sure did. While I was getting here, I gathered some herbs along the way. I hope you don't mind I found your den and started to dig out the section i want for my herb storage and me!"

Lupus stared at her, then said, "All the power to you!"

"Great!" She happily threw her body back into the den and started to dig out her medic area. Lupus and Regina had originally marked out the area and had spent some time digging the basic entrance tunnel and first big den area. They had marked some other directions they wanted to go with the tunnels but otherwise were happy that Arizona was taking initiative.
