taking up residence in an abandoned vineyard in sunny california, the canines of the vineyard are loyalists, loyal to the death and loyal to their packmates. they follow a strict hierarchy, and to break their laws means an immediate execution when proven guilty of breaking it, however there are certain situations in where the canine could be cast out beating the mark of a traitor by the alpha’s teeth. the hierarchy is as follows:

divine - also known as the alpha of the kennel, and typically they are chosen by the gods. however, they cannot create new laws.
sucessor - destined to become the next divine once the first passed away. the firstborn offspring of the divine.
second - the divine’s closest advisor, also known as the deputy. organizes patrols and hunting parties.
shaman - the healer and the religious leader of the kennel. they are the ones who receive omens and prophecies and use herbs to heal the canines when they are sick or injured.
paladins - twelve months old or higher, they are the main warriors and hunters of the kennel who are assigned a progeny to train.
progeny - canines who are under twelve months, apprenticed to the paladins, but who are older than eight months.
broodmothers - expecting or nursing females
younglings - still considered pups, eight months or younger.

Authun stared into the swamp, heart sinking in his paws. How could Kironir let Jokul be taken from him.. so quickly..? The massive dog glared into the bog, ears falling against his skull. His lips twitched. Paws itched. Authun suddenly launched into action, "What have you done to me!?" he snarled into the thick wood, "You knew what he meant to me! And yet you let that fool slaughter him like a deer!"

A black wolf moved forward, eyes apathetic. The creature sighed as he watched Authun, thick fur on end, raging on about a pup. "Authun. He was a stupid pup. It's not my fault you got attached. Get over it." The leader of the Fangs raced forward until he was nose to nose with Kironir, "You sent him to me!" the Ovcharka continued to rage, "You watched me grow to love him! You watched me teach him your path!" Kironir rolled his eyes and lightly shrugged, "Get over it. Unless you want to stop leading my pack." Authun's heart fell again. Stop leading? What would his life mean? He couldn't..

"What's this?" the small voice piped in behind him - Ulf. Authun whipped around to eye the smaller dog but quickly turned back to... nothing. Kironir was gone, "What do you want, Ulf?" the smaller dog laughed, "I heard him, Authun'Kir." Authun paced up the Shaman and snarled, "And?" Ulf's blind eyes looked directly into his, "He's right." Without a second thought Authun's large jaws wrapped around Ulf's skull and he lifted the little dog into the air. Shaking him back and forth until his neck snapped the alpha flung the body away from him, "No! You're wrong!" Authun dashed over to the body and again picked it up to shake it furiously before tossing it again and watching it thud into the swamps dirty waters. Panting Authun looked into the swamp's depths, "Oh.. Before I leave, Kironir, I'll be needing a new Vadikor."

Back in camp the first place Authun went was the find Flogi. He approached the Borzoi with nothing more then a snort, "Flogi." The canine turned to regard his leader and he grinned wickedly at the sight of Authun in such a tired state, "Yes, Authun'Kir?" The Kir eyed the dog warily before spitting it out, "I want you to be my Falvilda." Flogi recoiled and laughed, "What? Me?" He cocked his head, watching Authun. The Ovcharka simply nodded, "After the way you spoke during Jokul and Hakon's deaths, I think it's obvious Kironir wants you to play that role." Flogi burst into a bout of hysterical laughter, "Oh no, no, no, Kir. Not me, I just speak with Kironir some times. He doesn't hide from me but I'm not Falvilda." Authun's face screwed up in confusion, "Then.. Vadikor?" Flogi shook his head, "No, no. I'm nothing more then a simple pawn in this life. Thank you though, Kir, for such high regards."

Still no Falvilda.. Authun walked away from Flogi with a heavy heart - he'd been leading the Fangs for so long now and they still hadn't had a proper Falvilda. When would they become restless..?

the brute was anticipating the arrival, his body sore and aching from fatigue and overexertion. he, aufrey, was one of the very f
ew members qulub al'asad had, ever since half of their pack divided or died during the campaign. the four of them, empress pad
me, ursine and fallou, as well as him, had been voyaging across the central parts of africa, after their former base had been tak
en over by african wild dogs. aufrey pressed against the empress's side, letting her lean against him for extra support. ‶here, i'll
help you.″ the saluki was seemingly staggering to the side, as if she were bound to fall onto the ground, they couldn't risk having
injury, they didn't have a medic or corpse handler with them and aufrey doubted that anyone had any knowledge on herb usage.
‶merci, sergeant aufrey.″ she had said with gratitude. the rain came pouring down on them, muck covering their legs mixing wit
h the water, a grotesque sight.

as they entered the base, they all let out a sigh of relief, knowing that this was their final destination. ursine and fallou panted
as they chatted with each other, chuckling and giggling from joy. aufrey was too tired for goofing around, the first thing he wan
ted to do was to rest, but they still had to collect bedding for their nests. ‶i'll go and bring back some bedding for you, empress,
stay here.″ padme was unable to say anything as the hound ran away to fetch the bedding. she appreciated that he was so helpi
ng her, but it wasn't like she was disabled or something, she could do things for herself.

‶wake up, aufrey.″ the hound rolled over onto his side in ignorance to the other canine's command. ‶wake up.″ the other canine
said more sharply, pressing their paws against flank. aufrey reluctantly opened his eyes, an slightly prickled ursine stared back a
t him with big doe eyes. ‶what is it?″ he asked her. they had all settled in to their new base the other day, aufrey could vividly r
emember everything that had happened on their trip, from the heavy rainfall and padme almost suffering injury. padme... padm
e! ‶how's the empress? is she alright?″ he suddenly questioned, a hint of concern in his eyes. ‶why? she's fine, nothing serious,″ t
he other hound answered with slight aggression and curiosity. ursine had always been a very hotheaded canine, so this wasn't th
e first time seeing her like this. ‶we're going hunting, so chop chop.″ she then hissed, walking from out of the den. aufrey groan
ed and followed right behind her.

outside, padme and fallou stood. aufrey's eyes instantly fell to padme's scarred leg, recalling the time when she fell and scratch
ed it up. instantly, he felt concerned for her, even though it was not a big deal... he wasn't ever concerned about most, but he
did have a slight interest in the empress, but he wouldn't ever admit that he did.‶why are you still standing there? move it.″ urs
ine barked, finally realizing that he was still standing there near the den. aufrey followed them, dragging behind.

the Fierce Dogs defend their territory in south america in what they call the dog garden.
their values center around focus, discipline, and deadly, savage accuracy. they are described as ruthless, stopping at nothing to get what they desire and they let rage and revenge consume them, mostly in battle and the Trail of Rage. when a Fierce Dog pup has come of adult age, they must go through a trial known as the Trial of Rage in order to be admitted as true adult Fierce Dogs. the pup must be goaded into their inner Fierce-Dog fury, an impulse that blinds them into bloodlust. this ceremony is what characterizes the Fierce Dogs. the Trial can be entertainment for the watching Fierce Dog adults. rage usually builds within the Fierce Dogs while they are fighting, befitting the name "Trial of Rage." the victor of the ceremony is accepted as a full grown Fierce Dog once they prove their worth.
mainly, they believe in their ancestor the Fear-Dog, who looks after mainly the alpha, and the pack as well.

"I'm sorry, but what did you say attacked you again?" Pippa asked.
"A bear," said the golden retriever. She scrunched her nose up and padded away. Their was a big commotion throughout the kennel. A strange dog arrived with news of a bear in their territory. The kennel was starting to panic.
"Do you have any more details about the bear? As Alpha, this is something really serious for my kennel," Seria told him.
"Hmm... I can't really remember all that much," he shook his head. "But it was very large and-"
"Well, that's obvious," Sandy groaned.
"Shush!" Seria barked. "Please continue."
"I... Well, it has destroyed a fair bit of trees. I can't remember where but I think it's den is near there. You'll know if you've found because trees have fallen on the ground."
"I see... Thank you very much. Anyway, what did you say your name was again?" she asked.
"K... Kanan. My name is Kanan."
"Welcome to Mount Willow Tree, Kanan," she smiled. Seria got to her paws and walked off. She signalled to Sol to follow, and he obediently did.

After Seria left, Kanan was given a check up by Tulip. He was poked and prodded and didn't like it one bit. Then she stopped. "You're all good," she bluntly said. "But if something ever happens, come see me. I'll see what I can do then. For the time being you should rest."
"Ah okay... Thank you," he nodded. Tulip did the same and then padded away to sort some herbs. She had a bundle in her mouth and dropped them at her side of the cave. Then she felt a small shadow behind her. It wasn't her shadow, she knew that for sure. She wildly spun around and a tiny shape scrambled away and hide behind a stone. Tulip docked her head in confusion.
"Who's there?" she said. There was no reply. She crawled closer to the stone and heard tiny paws.
"A runaway mouse?" she asked herself. She heard the pitter patter of paws and then pounced on the other side of the stone. There was a squeak and a desperate attempt to escape. Except they couldn't move because Tulip had her paw on their tail.
"You're a big mouse," she said.
"I'm not a mouse!" Ilia snapped.
"I know, I'm just playing around," she said with a calm smile.
"O-oh... I knew that..." she said and looked away.
"Anyway, why are you following me?" Tulip asked.
"I was just curious! I wanted to see what you were doing," she said with a small whine.
"Curious? I see. But I think you would have more fun with your littermates. They must be wondering where you went. Come along now," she said and pushed her along with her paw.
"Fine..." Ilia groaned.

Eventually she ran off and left her alone. Tulip finished her task and then thought to herself. Maybe she would like to become a shaman...

Seria and Sol sat in an empty part of the cavern. They sat in front of each other, face to face.
"This news of the bear is a big concern. If we're not careful it could venture further into our territory and hurt someone," Seria said.
"That is true..." Sol nodded.
"So, we must do something about it and fast. Sol, gather worthy dogs with great speed and strength. We will leave at dusk," she announced.
"Wait, Seria... You're not thinking of going, are you?" he asked.
"Of course I'm going! I am Alpha."
"But the pups..."
"Oh, they'll be fine," she smiled.
"No. You should stay here. This is something dangerous and if you hurt yourself you could hurt the pups too," Sol said and got to his paws.
"Sol..."
"Leave it to me," he growled.
"Okay... I'll stay. Go on out there and make me proud," she nodded.
"I won't let you down," he nodded back. Then he bounded away and started to gather up dogs. Deep down, Seria wished she could go but she knew it was for the best. In the meantime, she rested and dreamed of running through the forest.

Aster's pups were old enough to not need milk as often now. They had gone off to play and that left Aster and Conner with some quiet time. They were grooming each other when Aster suddenly stopped.
"Is there something wrong?" Conner asked.
"I'm worried about the bear," she said.
"Oh... Don't worry, it won't come here," he replied and affectionately licked her cheek.
"I guess so... I hope it goes away soon," she sighed. "But there's something else."
"What would that be?"
"Bella told me that Sol is looking for dogs to join him to investigate the bear. She said she will join to protect the kennel. I'm scared that she will get hurt but she told me she will be fine..." she explained.
"Bella will be fine. She's headstrong but also fast. You should see her on patrols!" Conner shouted with a slight smile.
"I suppose... But Conner," she said and looked in his eyes. "You are to not join them. You should stay here and do something else."
"I..."
"It's for your safety. If something bad happens, then we won't have a family anymore..."
"That's a bit dramatic..."
"It's true!" she snapped.
"Okay, okay... I won't go. I promise.
"Good," she smiled and licked him.

"Papa!" a loud yap echoed in the cavern. Kierat sat with Rusty and the two spun around.
"Who's that?" Rusty asked, pointing in the direction of a small dog.
"I'm not really sure... But let's investigate!" he suggested. The two walked over to the small dog, who started to aggressively wag her tail.
"Papa!" she yapped again and this time came towards Kierat.
"Papa?" Rusty echoed. Kierat's face was blank for a second when he finally exploded into happiness.
"Maena!" he shouted and licked her forehead.
"Maena!?" Rusty echoed again.
"Oh, I missed you so much! I thought I would never see you again!" Maena squeaked.
"Me too!" Kierat squeaked back. Rusty watched the two small dogs circle and lick each other.
"Could someone explain what is happening?" he asked. Kierat stopped and turned to his friend.
"Rusty, there is one little thing you don't know about me. This is Maena and she is my daughter."
"WHAAAAT!? You're a father!? Why didn't you say so before!?" he yelped in surprise.
"Well... I didn't think it was so important..." he nervously laughed. Maena giggled. Kierat and Maena spent the afternoon catching up. She even started to become friends with Rusty.

xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxthe first generation dogs of fernsilk hotel are often ones left behind by human families. they have gentle and friendly demeanors, as they were taught being brought up. they would never turn a blind eye to a hungry pup or a cold elder. though, as months pass, more uncommon breeds could always join the mix. nonetheless, the most common breeds would include border collies, australian shepherds, bermese mountain dogs, and sheepdogs. their coat color makes no difference in their survival, due to their camp location.

xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx─ THE SANCTUARY.
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxthe dogs of fernsilk take shelter in an old abandoned hotel just a mile or so away from the city centre. it is rundown, but there is enough space to grow a kennel. there are open spaces outside for hunting prey and looking for herbs. the paws train in an emptied swimming pool just bordering the doctor's den. this hotel is home for all dogs, and they call it their sanctuary in such hard times to come by. considering the woods that surround the hotel, the dogs consume squirrels, snakes, small & large birds, raccoon and the rare elk or deer.

The Onyx Jackals are a pack of dogs that live in the city where they claim the lands.  They aren't a friendly bunch and are known to be rude and savage around other rivalling packs.   they're more like a gang then anything because of they seem too independent in some ways to be a true pack.  the members will sometimes be gone for days doing their own business.. but if one dog messes with one of them they mess with all the jackals.
  "and the jackals strike with sharpened fangs." is their favourite motto.
the jackals don't have a set religion though they all are linked to the mischievous god named jackal who was said to send the members of the gang to the onyx jackals lair.  they are called onyx jackals because jackal has a jet black coat.
the jackals live in a junkyard where they sleep in old cars.  it's a tough life but they're tougher.  these dogs are often pitbulls, dobermans, kangals, pressa canarios and other brutish breeds.

The bear patrol had returned with mostly good news. Sol was to make an announcement. He stood on a small rock as the rest of the kennel sat before him. He looked over the crowd and then begun to speak.
"It is with great pleasure that I announce the bear has been chased out. Thanks to Kanan's help and the dogs who volunteered to come with me, it is gone now. There's no need to be scared and we can continue with all duties. Unfortunately, Bella was injured by the bear but with Tulip's medical ability, she will recover fine. That is all for now." With the announcement over, the dogs celebrated their victory and resumed what they were doing.

Sol walked over to both his Alpha and mate, Seria. "Phew," he sighed and sat down beside her. "You make it seem so much easier. I was kinda nervous about talking in front of everyone..."
"Hm, I get what you mean. But if you just think like you're talking to everyone like normal it's more bearable," she replied. "Besides, you should get used to it. You could be Alpha someday." He turned to look at her, disbelief in his eyes.
"What do you mean?"
"You're Beta, right? So when I die or something, you'll be Alpha," she said.
"Oh, come on now. You still have all nine lives. You'll be Alpha for a long while now," he said with a small smile. "You might even out live me..." They looked into each other's eyes and were silent for a while.
"Well, let's not think about such things. There's plenty more to talk about." Seria closed her eyes and nodded. They they opened again as she smiled a great big smile.

Tulip had made Bella lay down on a soft pile of leaves and feathers that Lana and Pidge gathered. Bella was awake and alert and hardly bothered by anything. Aster, on the other hand, was super worried. "Are you sure it doesn't hurt? Can I get something for you?"
"Yes, yes I'm fine. Stop treating me like a pup," she snapped.
"Sorry... Maybe I've been in the nursery for too long..." Aster sighed.
"It's alright. I appreciate the concern," her gaze softened. "By the way, where are the pups?"
"Oh, Conner is with them. They wanted to play a game so I left him to keep them entertained," she replied with a soft chuckle.
"Haha! They must be getting bored too," Bella laughed.
"Yes... But Bella... What really happened out there? With the bear I mean. What exactly happened?" Bella stared at her then took a loud sigh.
"Geez... It's not that bad... I was just doing what everyone else was doing. But then the bear cornered me and then..."
"Then what?" Aster asked.
"Rowan came to save me," she said, almost like in a trance. She was staring right at Rowan who was in conversation with Pippa. It seemed like she wanted to know about the bear story too.
"Well, aren't you lucky then. Something way worse could have happened," Aster smiled. Bella snorted in response.

"Do you feel better now?" Goldie asked Kanan.
"Yeah, I think I'm okay," he yawned and got to his feet.
"Good thing the bear is gone now though," Nemmell nodded. The two golden retrievers agreed.
"But ah geez... I feel kinda bad..." Kanan sighed while looking to the ground.
"Why's that?" Nemmell asked.
"I got one of you guys hurt... Bella, was it?"
"Oh, don't worry about it," Goldie chuckled. "She's strong, just like the rest of us. If it wasn't for you, then even more dogs could have gotten hurt."
"I... I guess you're right..." he said.
"Anyway, why don't we lift your spirits by going hunting?" Nemmell suggested.
"Great idea," Goldie nodded. The three were about to leave when they heard a loud yelp.
"What was that?" Kanan asked, starting to panic. Goldie shrugged and Nemmell looked around. Conner erupted from the nursery, his three pups by his side.
"Quick, Tulip! Seria, is having her pups now!" he shouted. As soon as he said that, Sol went inside and Tulip followed suit.

[Mount Willow Tree consumes a rabbit and two mice (4 servings)]
[Seria goes into labor. Tulip assits]
[Bella rests]
[Goldie, Kanan, Nemmell and Arwin hunt]
