The night was peaceful. A few lone owls hooted, a
screechy cry of an animal in the far distance. So then why
was Silverflower so awake? She sure didn't know. It was a
relief to see Otterkit fast asleep, so she could leave the
den and get some rare moments of peace. A cat walked
over to her. 'Silverflower?' There was confusion in their
mew. 'Why are you awake?'
Silverflower laughed softly. 'I'm just thinking. I can't sleep,
that's all.'
The cat seemed relieved, and they sat down near her,
letting their fur relax a little.
Their eyes darted over to the bushes briefly before back
at their paws.
'What's wrong?'
'N-nothing!' They were startled by Silverflower's sudden
concern.
In the bushes, eyes gleamed. Their companion was distracting
her well. However, as they leaped, Silverflower moved, and
they crashed into their companion. This set Silverflower's
protective nature off and she hissed, claws out at the attacker.
'Don't hurt-' a quick slash to the nose cut Silverflower off,
and she stumbled back into her companion. They twisted around
and pinned her down, paw on her muzzle so she couldn't speak.
With a little bit of effort, she began pushing her attackers off,
however it was not enough and her eyes dulled and the blood from
her neck seeped into the ground, staining the grass red.
The killers backed away, glanced at one another, and then one
of them brought the lavender out from where it had been hidden.
They spread it around, just enough to mask their individual scents,
and then went to clean themselves off and return to their nests.
RiverClan, your first cat is dead! Poor Otterkit no longer has
a guardian.
