copperleaf still had the buzz of excitement about him from his ceremony. he was a fully realized member of vineclan! he was so thrilled. he was not thrilled, however, to see a familiar face cuddled up in the medicine den. copperleaf gathered some honey and walked out from the storage nook to the main den. he gave a nod to muntjacfur, who was curled around her daughter. crabpaw's amputation had gone fine enough, but the young she-cat was having trouble mentally adjusting to the change. muntjacfur had spent most of her time in the medicine den beside her, bringing her food and being a sturdy support while she learned to walk again. but crabpaw was asleep and didn't need tending to. with a huff, copperleaf dropped the honey in front of tarantulapaw, who had arrived into his care while he and batleaf were out collecting herbs. "you know," copperleaf sighed "you don't have to get sick every time you want to see me." tarantulapaw laughed, which brought on a fit of coughing. he lapped at some of the honey before responding, voice raspy. "in my defense, last time i was here it wasn't because of sickness." copperleaf shook his head. he used a paw to lift tarantulapaw's chin and examined the scar. "it's healing pretty well," he hummed, gently releasing the tom's head. tarantulapaw's face heated and he was happy that his dark fur concealed the blush that had begun to form at copperleaf's touch. "i'm glad to see that getting your name hasn't made you detached from reality. still great bedside service." tarantulapaw nodded at the honey "i can walk this time, you know, i could've gotten it from you." "nonsense," copperleaf said, dismissing his words with a flick of the tail "it's my job." from behind him, muntjacfur called for copperleaf that crabpaw had woken up. "i've gotta check on crabpaw, but seriously tarantulapaw, we should go on a walk or something sometime. i do enjoy your company but i don't want the only time that happens is when you're injured." tarantulapaw chuckled. "that would be great."

deertick was sprawled out in front of the nursery. it was a glorious day and cats were resting on the rubble next to the nursery building to soak up the sun before it dipped beneath the dense jungle treeline. the queens had went on a walk to stretch their legs and deertick had volunteered to look after the kits while they did so. there was some drama involved with eveningpool's return from her moon long adventure expecting kits. grasswhistle in particular was not thrilled that her grandmother was in the nursery at her age. despite that, her pregnancy had been going fine according to batleaf, and the elder's den was empty while eveningpool awaited her litter. yamkit was nestled in between deertick's front paws while lotusnose's sons were teaching melonkit how to play mossball. seahorsekit and milkkit were defending their goal fiercely while melonkit and redkit kicked the ball their direction. deertick watched them with a smile. she looked down at yamkit. "you don't want to try and play?" she asked softly. the young tom looked up at her with large, round eyes. he just shook his head and nuzzled himself closer to her chest. she let out a hum of acceptance and returned her focus back to the game. yamkit reminded her a lot of herself. she was an only kit. her mother and her were part of a small family group in a twoleg village not far from vineclan's territory. her aunts had several kits that were all slightly older than her. they were very tight knit and while they never excluded deertick per se, she never felt like she truly belonged. when her mother became a kittypet, deertick took it as her opportunity to leave the group and make a family on her own. she had pretty much accidentally stumbled across squirrelbelly one morning and he brought her back to the camp when she told him her story. she had made fast friends with muntjacfur and belltuft, the two camp aides, thus resulting in her current duty of kitsitting. suddenly, milkkit came running over to her, tears in his eyes. "deertick!" he wailed, throwing himself against her "redkit tripped me and..and i fell in the mud and now i'm all dirty! papa just groomed me this morning and he's gonna be so mad!" the young kit's usually fluffy white coat was matted with mud. redkit nervously came trotting up beind his brother. "i'm really sorry, i didn't mean to trip him! please don't yell at us." deertick was baffled. "darlings, take some deep breaths," she soothed, opening her paws and allowing them to step closer to her- something yamkit didn't seem too happy about. "are either of you hurt." redkit shook his head. "n-no." milkkit sniffled. deertick sighed with relief. "well, then everything will be alright! if you wish, i can clean you up but i truly don't think lotusnose will be too mad. i'm sure he's thrilled that you're getting to play outside and including melonkit in your game! as long as you're having fun and being safe, of course." milkkit shared a look with his brother. "m-maybe one more round and then a bath." he murmured, a small smile forming on his lips. "sounds good to me!" she leaned down close to milkkit. "by the way," she confided "redkit can't block the goal as well on his left side. shoot there next time." joy lit up the young tom's eyes before determination took its place. he nodded and dragged his brother back to the game area and told seahorsekit about his newfound knowledge. at that moment, deertick's wishes solidified. she wanted a large family, with lots of kits to raise, and she wanted most of all to create a loving family for all of them- and any other kit that was born into the clan.

Season: ( Leafbare ) Leaf-bare begins with a warning.

Frost laces the ground at dawn, silver and sharp beneath pawpads. The first snowfall drifts down quietly, soft as feathers,
settling over bracken and bramble. It is almost beautiful - a fresh, untouched world glowing beneath pale sunlight.

Prey grows scarce but not yet vanished. A careful hunter can still track a mouse beneath thin snow or flush a rabbit from its
burrow before the ground freezes solid. The river edges with fragile ice, cracking softly beneath testing paws.

The Clans prepare. Dens are reinforced with moss, elders are urged to stay inside, and patrols double-check borders before
storms can wipe away scent markers. The cold bites, but hope remains steady.

Leaf-bare has arrived but it has not yet tightened its grip.

Winter Advocate’s sides heave, desperate despair welling up in her chest when
she realizes that the hawk is gaining on her. In the blink of an eye, she went
from strolling along the countryside to fleeing from a predator, into what
looked to be some abandoned human structure. Processing the utter
weirdness of the terrain here was a luxury she’d have if she got herself to
safety. Kicking up dirt in her wake, the blue cat hears the chilling screech
of the bird as it gets momentarily blinded by the spray. Taking her chance,
she pelts across closely shorn grass, eyes fixated beyond the broken railing
coming up ahead. Winter Advocate lunges for the tall grass, frigid panic
spiking along her spine as talons encircle her tail…



Time seems to slow, the certainty of her soon-to-be demise instilling a
strange sense of peace within her. Winter Advocate becomes aware of a
voice echoing in her ears, the confident authority seeming to surge its
way through her muscles and thrum into her paws.

“Bring forth the squall!”



…and she slips free, tumbling past the railing and into the frostbitten tall
grass behind it. Winter Advocate’s heart thuds painfully in her chest as she
wills herself to keep still. She listens to the hawk’s wingbeats circling the
area, casting out a silent prayer that it doesn’t land to wait her out. After
an agonizing length of time, the hawk lets out a frustrated cry and she
hears the wingbeats get fainter, back in the direction of the countryside.
Winter Advocate remains where she is until the moon starts faintly
illuminating her surroundings, and only then does she dare to finally creep
through the tall grass. Her ears perk up, hearing not the sound of the hawk
returning, but of three more voices calling out to her.


The voices lead her to another peculiar sight; a quick breath steels her
nerves enough to cross past the unnaturally growing trees. Thrown yet again
off-balance by the fragrant meadow that now stretches before her, she
begins to wind her way through sweet-smelling flowers and herbs. The
sensation of her paws stepping onto cold, entirely flat stones being the
thing to shake her out of her thoughts. Winter Advocate inspects the ground
in disbelief, running a paw across the smooth transition from meadow grass
to stone. A glint catches her eye, head swiveling automatically as her mind
flashes back to the past danger. Relief warms her body when she sees it was
just moonlight reflecting off a frozen pool of water. Hesitantly, she
approaches it, gazing at the shiny base in the center and letting her eyes
travel upwards. Three glossy stone cats, all depicting different running
positions, seem to spring out from the middle of the base. Winter Advocate
sets one paw on the stone rim containing the frozen pool, but as soon as her
other paw joins it, she is blinded by bright prismatic light.


Before she passes out, she swears she can feel the rasp of three balmy
tongues on her head.

Ananke was stumped. A play needed to be staged before she and Mnemosyne got into another conflict, or, god forbid,
someone figured out why everycat had been losing their names upon joining the troupe. She kneaded her paws into
the soft fabric of the curtains, hoping that eventually she would get hit with an exquisite idea. As the threads of her
mind weaved themselves together, an unfamiliar meow sounded behind her.

"Hi there!" Ananke whipped her head around to see a small, most likely not yet fully grown red and white cat waving
her tail back and forth. "Are you Ananke? Somecat in my dreams told me I should come and find you here. I had
nothing better to do, so I followed her call, and now I'm here!" Before Ananke could even get a word out, the molly
started bouncing around the stage, looking around at the various lights and props littering the stage.

"Oh, er.. Yes, I'm Ananke, the leader of the troupe which performs here." Ananke responded after gathering her
thoughts for a brief moment. "Cool! So, what plays have you put on? Ooh, ooh, let me guess - maybe... Catbeth? Oh,
wait, no, don't tell me - YOU'VE BEEN PERFORMING MUSICALS?! I love musicals! The twolegs near my home always
put on some music, so me and the neighboring cats used to sing along. It's really nice, you've got to try sometime!"
The molly skipped over Ananke, nearly tripping over her own two feet in excitement. "Well, we, uh... it's a work in
progress?" Ananke stammered out after being caught off guard by the jolly youngster, who seemed to wilt a bit at
Ananke's answer. "Oh, bummer... That's right! I almost forgot. My name is Ioke, nice to meet you!"

"Likewise," Ananke nodded before slightly stumbling. "Wait, wait, you remember your name?" Ioke tilted her head and
meowled out a confused agreement. "Yeah? What, do cats forget their names around here, or what? Haha, that'd be-
that'd be crazy!" Ananke gave no response, and Ioke paled, her ears flattened. "Wait, are you serious? Cats actually
forget their own NAMES?! No way. No- no way. Tell me you're joking!"

Ananke stayed cowardly silent until Ioke understood the implications of her silence, and then mewed. "As far as I know,
you, me, Soter and Nomos are the only ones who haven't. For now, let's keep it that way." She brushed her tail against
Ioke's mouth to quiet her protests, and spoke once more. "I know, it's crazy. It's insane. But Mnemosyne - the cat you
met in your dreams - I don't know what she'll do to us, to them, if she finds out they know. We need to keep quiet
about this until we're ready." She removed her tail once Ioke nodded. "You'll join the troupe as my understudy. Try to
pursue the truth, Ioke. Since you'll be new, you can ask as many questions as you want."

Ioke nodded, and then opened her mouth. "What about Soter? And- and Nomos? Will they be helping us?" Ananke thought
for a brief second before narrowing her eyes. "I don't trust Nomos. He's too... rigid. I think he might report everything
to Mnemosyne if he finds out. Soter..." Memories of them and Ponus discussing their rock collection flowed through her
mind, and Ananke smiled. "Soter's fine. They might even be helpful, if their manager knowledge is anything to go by.
You'll meet everycat once they're back from patrols." Ioke nodded. "Okay! Okay. So, Soter's good, Nomos is bad, um,
this-is-totally-fine and we're perfectly regular cats. Okay! Yeah!"

A little while later, everycat started showing up with either prey for the troupe or something else to show in the form
of one brown cat with strangely spikey fur... "Ananke, we found her on our patrol. She said she'd be willing to join the
troupe." Dicaeosyne muttered and urged the she-cat to move forward. "Hello there, I'm assuming you're the leader? My
name is... ugh, wait a second, I forgot it. Hold on.." Ananke's eyes flicked to Ioke, who's ears slightly flattened as she
realized what was going on. "Ugh, no good, what's my name? Come on, you know this! T... nope. No name. Sorry. I still
want to join though." The molly bashfully bowed her head in embarrassment while awaiting Ananke's reply.

"What about Thalassa? Your name, I mean." Ananke meowed out while flicking her eyes between the newcomer and
Ioke. "Thalassa it is, playwright... Sorry, I didn't catch your name." Thalassa mewed out. "Ananke. My name is Ananke.
Welcome to the troupe." Thalassa bowed her head in thanks and Ioke made her way out in front of the troupe. "This
is Ioke. I found her loitering in the theater today," Ananke had to conceal her smirk as Ioke glared daggers at her.
"and she seemed willing to join. Is anyone opposed to having our first understudy join us?" There was only silence in
the theater, and Ananke nodded. "Good. I feel I should mark this event with a ceremony. Everyone except Ioke, to
the audience!" The cats scattered offstage with murmurs, and Ananke stepped forward into the moonlight perforating
the theater, a makeshift spotlight.

"Ioke, today you came to the theater and expressed a wish to be heard and understood, to display all facets of your
personality and ego to the audience, both spiritual and physical. Is this true, and does my speech and manner not
forsake your truth?" Ioke nodded, and meowled an agreement. "Then, in pursuit and in hope, I shall take you under
my wing to become my understudy. May your training go well, and may you grow into a brilliant cast member."
Ananke flicked her tail to call Ioke over into the spotlight, and as she did, applause sounded from the audience.
