- Solarstar's patrol had just left, and Ambermask was busy helping Aspenheart clean out his new area. He'd spent pretty much the entire past moon in the Probity nursery, but now that Smokekit was in the clear, it was time for him to move out into a more central location.
A new apprentice and kitten had joined, along with a scientist who had come from a different clan. The apprentice (Snowpaw, now a Recruit) had worn himself out, carrying Coconutkit (currently being taken for by Rootwillow along with Smokekit) most of the way through the wilds. How the two had ended up on their own, with no one to take care of them, when they weren't related (according to Snowpaw), Ambermask had no clue. As for Auxiliarystrike, well...he was different, having come from a former clan, but he seemed fine with adapting into the Eclipseclan way of life.
A new scent drifted across Ambermask's nose, and she frowned. The patrol hadn't been out that long, they shouldn't have gotten much further than four or five fox-lengths from the entrance. So then...
"Ambermask?"
Ambermask whirled around, eyes flying open. "Rusticsallow?"
The bicolor cat standing in the doorway smiled weakly. "It's been a few moons, hasn't it?"
Completely forgetting about Aspenheart (who was now looking on with curiosity), Ambermask bolted across the floor of the factory, and very nearly tackled her mate to the ground. Rusticsallow smelled like forest and stone, an earthy scent compared to the sharp metallic scents of Eclipseclan.
"What are you doing here? Is everything alright?" Ambermask asked, letting her gaze search her mate's fur. "You aren't hurt are you?"
Rusticsallow hesitated, and shook her head. "I'm not hurt, no...it's..." she glanced over Ambermask's shoulder at Aspenheart. "Could we go...somewhere a little more private?"
"Of course." Ambermask said, rising to her paws, she smiled, rubbing her cheek against Rusticsallows, before turning to shout "We're going to the therapy den, you all know the drill."
Ambermask led Rusticsallow out of the factory, and back along the side of it, until they reached the back wall. There was a smaller metal shelter there, framed by wildflowers. "This is where I bring cats who need sessions with me," Ambermask explained. "Usually for aptitude tests or assessments, but sometimes a cat will just need to vent." she smiled sadly. "And with the Choosing this moon, I'm afraid I'll be doing a lot more of that sort of session."
"Choosing?" Rusticsallow echoed with a frown. Whenever the two of them had been able to slip away (usually at Gatherings) they had never really talked much about their clans. Ambermask nodded. She'd wanted to keep Rusticsallow away from the horrors of the Tournament, but if Rusticsallow was here, then..well, she would have had to find out eventually anyways.
"I'll explain it after you finish," Ambermask said with a smile. She hopped through the entrance of the shelter, and sat in front of a bed of moss. "So, what's been happening in the Celestials?"

As the two she-cats left for Ambermas's work den, Aspenheart chuckled slightly, and turned back to his herbs. He hadn't seen Ambermask this excited...probably ever. Of course, he'd only been with Eclipseclan for two moons, so he didn't have much room to talk, but still.
The sound of hard coughing interrupted Aspenheart's thoughts, and he jerked his head upward, searching for the source. He found it in the form of a struggling-to-walk orange and white tabby, and he let out a sharp hiss. "You get your tail back in that nest Jaggedpaw! You aren't going anywhere for the next two moons and if you haven't figured that out by now I swear to Starclan I'm going to have Mountaindew SIT on you!" he snarled as he bounded over to the young former healer-in-training.
The young tom had exhausted himself taking care of Rootwillow as her kitting had gone bad, and it was honestly a miracle that Aspenheart had been able to keep Jaggedpaw alive after the tom had nearly burnt his life out keeping Smokekit alive.
"I'm fine-" Jaggedpaw started, but Aspenheart broke him off.
"You'll be fine when I say so, you did a great job remembering your training, considering how long it's been since you've probably even SEEN a healer, Starclan knows how this clan survived for so long without one, but you, and Lionpoppy, aren't healers anymore. You did great kid, now shut up, and listen to me for Starclan's sake, or I swear I'm going to-"
"Have Mountaindew sit on me, yeah, I know." Jaggedpaw grumbled. "I just wanted to try and see if you needed any help with your herbs, I didn't realize it would give you a heart attack."
Aspenheart glared at him, then slowly, the glare turned into him studying the orange and white tomcat. He hummed, then nodded once. "You will sit there, and you won't do anything outside of what I tell you, and if I tell you to stop and rest then you will lie down on spot and fall asleep, understood?"
Jaggedpaw's eyes widened hopefully, and he nodded his head furiuosly. "Yes sir!" he said, easing himself into a sitting position."
Aspenheart snorted. "Good. Now, see if you can figure out how to store these damn poppy seeds, they get everywhere underpaw and I can't have em infecting the other herbs."

The sun was just beginning to rise when Solarstar called the clan together. There was a tarp in front of him, the plastic weathered but it served its purpose just fine.
Aspenheart and Ambermask already sat at his side, three of the possible six high ranks already filled. And in just two moons, another was guaranteed to be given to some cat. The three members of Valor rose from the floor near the entrance, Rosepaw looking extremely nervous, while Mountaindew and Harpswoop looked more resigned. Creekshine, Auxiliarywhisker, and Glintwhisker padded out from behind the heavy machinery, Glintwhisker twitching nervously, and Creekshine looking like he'd spent the entire night wide awake. Auxiliarystrike didn't seem all that concerned, but that could have been his having arrived just a few days ago and not really understanding what the Tournament was yet.
The Comity cats were a bit slower, Lionpoppy helping his mother (now heavily rounded) walk down from the rafters. Snowpaw was slow as well, still recovering from his exhaustion. Maplecloud, the other Comity newcomer, looked more hesitant, her cream colored tail rippling lightly.
The final to come were the Probity. Rusticsallow was helping Rootwillow with the two kittens, while Honeysting guided Jaggedpaw. The whole of Probity was a little shaky, and understandably so. Rootwillow and the kits were safe, but if Jaggedpaw's name was called...well, the apprentice wouldn't even survive the first few hours in his condition.
Solarstar sighed. As the fully assembled Eclipseclan sat, he lifted his chin, and began to speak.
"On this, the tenth moon since Eclipseclan's founding. The time has come to draw the names of the cats chosen to compete in our yearly Tournament. As this is the first Tournament Eclipseclan will have held, and, as we are a small clan, only a single cat from each Faction is to be drawn. Next year, two cats of each faction, and so forth until the fourth Tournament when the full sixteen names will be called."
Soft gasps of relief flickered through the assembled cats, and Solarstar saw Ambermask sag slightly, a smile crossing her face as she glanced towards the Probity section.
"When each of you joined Eclipseclan, I chose an item to represent you. A pebble, a feather, a bone, a fish scale, and so on." Solarstar continued. "Even for the kittens, though their items will not be added to this Choosing. Also removed from this choosing, are the stones of the queens," he paused then added "And, for this Choosing only, the stones of the apprentices. By counsil of Aspenheart, two of the three apprentices in Eclipseclan are both weakened by exhaustion, and to ask them to compete would be unfair. Also unfair, would be to remove their stones, but allow Rosepaw's to remain. So, under the circumstances, no apprentices will be required to compete in this, the first Tournament."
A barely audible "thank you." rose from Comity, and Solarstar glanced at Lionpoppy. He'd have to be blind to have noticed how close the tabby was to Jaggedpaw, and he gave the young tom a short nod.
"And so, Aspenheart and Ambermask will now reveal the items, belonging to the cats entered in the Tournament."
Ambermask and Aspenheart rose, and each took a side of the tarp in their teeth. Gently, they lifted their heads, and carried the tarp off of the items it covered. The clan shifted for them, and they took it back to Solarstar's area, before returning.
"A stone for Mountaindew, a pidgeon's feather for Harpswoop, A pebble for Creekshine, a tuft of sheep's fur for Auxiliarystrike. A mouse's skull for Glintwhisker, a maple leaf for Maplecloud, a raven feather for Lionpoppy. A rusted gear for Rusticsallow, and a bit of honeycomb for Honeysting." Solarstar listed.
"Cats shall be drawn in the Faction Order, and it will be randomized. As you can see, the items are sorted in pile by faction. I will close my eyes, and pick one item without seeing it." Solarstar said, rising to his paws and moving so he was standing before the Valor pile.
Solarstar closed his eyes, and lowered his head. The world was silent and still. His muzzle brushed against something, and he parted his jaws, taking the item gently in his teeth. Without opening them, he knew what he was holding. Taking a step back, he placed the item separate, and lifted his head, opening his eyes to look towards Valor. "Mountaindew, your name has been chosen of the Valor soldiers. Harpswoop, do you volunteer to fight in his stead?"
Harpswoop turned wide green eyes towards the large form of Mountaindew, but the tom shook his head at her. She sagged with relief and said "No, I...I don't."
Solarstar nodded. "To volunteer is to be by choice. If you do not wish to, no cat expects you to." he shuffled to the side, standing now before the Scholar items.
As the ceremony continued, Creekshine of Scholar, Lionpoppy of Comity, and Honeysting of Probity were chosen. No cat volunteered to fight in any cats stead, and so the Choosing was complete.
As the four cats sat silently, being comforted by their faction mates, Solarstar nodded to a relieved-looking Ambermask to put away the remaining items.
"These four cats have been chosen to fight in the Tournament, they have the next two moons to scout the forest, and to clear it of any cats they find, if they wish, they may also train. They are excused from patrols and hunting duties, however they are welcome to join patrols if they so desire. The four Chosen may not leave this clan, they may not attempt for kittens, if any cat attacks them, they will join them in the Tournament, if something should happen and they die before the Tournament, then a new cat will take their place." Solarstar said, looking around the clan. "You all are dismissed."
