The newest member of the Clay Roamers, Markov, was sent by Ree. Markov joined Azil and Daquir on their patrol. During the patrol, they come across a young bobcat pacing under one of the arch entrances. Curious, Daquir halts the patrol and watches from a distance. The bobcat walks into the territory, panting. It moves slowly until it sees the river. The bobcat runs over and begins lapping up the water.
Azil, angered, gets ready to attack but Daquir stops her.
"Were you not doing the same thing last moon round?" Daquir asks.
"It's different. I am native to this land. The bobcat has no right to use our water source."
"Don't forget, you also left. You trespassed just as much as this stranger is doing now. Maybe Ree is sending another member to us."
"And maybe we have a trespasser using all our water to fill their stomach."
Markov comments "Chieftain, the bobcat is leaving."
Daquir says "Let's go greet our visitor."
The glaring intercept the bobcat near the arch. The new cat raises their fur and prepares for a fight. "Who are you?" he says.
Daquir answers "We should be asking you this, trespasser and thief. I am the chieftain of the Clay Roamers, Daquir. Why did you think it was acceptable to come to our lands?"
The bobcat's eyes grew wide. "Y-You mean you are actually real? I thought the Clay Tribe was only a myth. No one could survive in this canyon. It's too hostile."
"You walk onto our lands and disrespect us! I am the son of the former chieftain of the Clay Tribe. I have made my own glaring and it would do you well to remember that we are the Clay Roamers. Now show some respect or pay the price for your crimes!"
"I-I'm sorry. I only came here because this is the only water source around here. The next closest lake or river is in the forest across the desert. I was so thirsty and haven't drank in days. Please, I didn't mean any disrespect." The bobcat was very thin and struggled to stand. He was young and it was a miracle that he even survived.
Markov whispered to Daquir "What are you thinking? If we kick him out, he won't last very long. But he doesn't look like he could be very useful until he regains some strength."
"I know. I have made my decision. You, half-cub. What is your name?"
"It's Volco sir."
"Volco, you either stay here and work for your punishment or I can serve your punishment now by killing you."
"Uh- I would like to live please. I'll take the first option."
"Hmm, I thought so. Prove your worth and work. Then I'll consider if you can join the Clay Roamers as a member. Come on. We are going back to our melting season camp."

[Side note: seasons are named differently.

Lady Darkshadow flicks her tail in Madrugada's direction as he sorts herbs... or, rather, attempts to. He seems distracted by the massive bulk of the new brute deputy. Regardless, he attempts to ignore the leader's tone.

"He certainly is a brute," Madrugada says flatly in response.

The dark lady chuckles.

The patrol group explored more of the territory, marking new and old spots to secure their ground even more. They took many breaks as the afternoon sun was beating down on them harshly. At one point, they come across a small makeshift camp under a stone ledge. Daquir investigated it and found pawprints in the sand and the remains of a desert mouse. He curled his lip back and slightly growled. Who had the nerve to camp in his territory? His question was answered as he saw a jaguar emerge from a small cave, invisible until now.
"Hello my young friends. Welcome to my resting place. You can take that in more than one way too." The older jaguar chuckled. "What makes you want to visit old Xenon?"
Azil answered "Who are you and what are you doing in our territory? I hope you enjoyed that mouse because it will be your last meal." Her fur stuck up and she clawed the ground, waiting for the signal from Daquir.
Xenon answered "What do you mean? I have lived here for many seasons undisturbed. I was feeling a bit lonely lately and then you travelers stop by. I am very pleased to meet you."
Daquir stepped up. "I have heard stories of an elusive jaguar that lives in the canyon. He is quick and agile. Those who see him say he disappears without a trace. Is that by chance you?"
"Well I don't know much about others living in this canyon, but I have only lived here for the entirely of my life. I am a humble gatherer and will hunt sometimes, but I am just an old hermit waiting to live out my last days here."
"What about living your last days apart of a glaring? You wouldn't have to leave your camp, but you could act more like a sentry and warn the rest of us of any danger or any other cats. How does that sound to you?"
"Hmm, I would get to live here, have the protection of a glaring, and if need be a food and water supply. I'll accept, but you have to visit me every so often."
"I plan to. Every moon I will send someone to get a report from you. If you ever see any cats, tell them to make their way over to me and I will judge them. You are also now a member of the Clay Roamers Xenon. It's a pleasure to meet the elusive canyon jaguar."
"It was nice meeting you folks too. Stay a while and have a chat."
"I must refuse for we have more territory to cover. But I will be seeing you at some other time."
The group left Xenon's camp. Azil was flicking her tail furiously and Daquir couln't ignore it much longer. He asked "Do you have a problem you'd like to bring up with me?"
Azil answered "Uh... I just don't understand why you keep accepting these useless cats into our glaring."
"Useless? I have no idea what you are talking about?"
"This brat can barely walk and you are dragging him along with us! He's slowing us down tremendously. And that cat up there is as ancient as this canyon! I only see weak links being added to our glaring. We need strong cats to help us."
"We are small and must grow our numbers any way we can. Volco is young and with proper care will grow strong. Xenon is a permanent lookout for this side of the canyon. He is very stealthy. I don't know if you have noticed, but our patrol hasn't even finished one lap of our territory. We need eyes in all directions at all times. And like you said, we need strong fighters like you and Markov. But that is only one aspect of the glaring. You don't have to understand, but each cat in the Clay Roamers is useful."

the haast fleet, also known as the haast eagles or the haast flock, are fiercely loyal cats who posses quick wits and strong bond with one another. family is valued by these cats- both blood and otherwise. togetherness is very important to these cats also- and while they can be perceived as cold and harsh by those on the outside, the haast eagles show an empathy to those in their own glaring like most others cant. trust for one's own family and glaring as a whole is deep rooted in how younger cats are treated. calves and fawn are encouraged to speak up about their opinions and their achievements. because of this, the flock can often be described as proud and sometimes even vain. the cats that populate the fleet are very intelligent.

behaviors/ definitions.
-hunters are, obviously, much better hunters than their counterparts. hunters are often more soft- spoken than warriors and also more diplomatic at times. there are fewer warriors than hunters.
-warriors are more brutish than hunters, though still quite intelligent, and when they are not fighting (which is alot of the time.) they will either help around camp/ make it look nice, aid in gathering patrols as bodygaurds or attend hunting patrols to be a bodygaurd or help hunt.
-the way training works is that a group of either novii or afecti will attend something similar to a class with their mentor. there is one mentor for either group that are expected to offer personalized training for each novii/ afecti as it is their only duty. if there are no novii/ afecti then a mentor is expected to act as a hunter or warrior respectively.
-admiral and general are expected to be filled as soon as a cat would fit the bill for either hunter or warrior respectively so long as there is not an admiral or general currently serving. lieutenant general and vice admiral roles are only permitted to be filled if there are three cats (not including the cat becoming lieutenant/vice) currently serving as a warrior or hunter respectively.
-a king/ sergeant is the first role to be filled by a founder of the fleet. the fleet must have a ensign and a number of other cats before they are permitted to employ an officer cadet.

appearance & breeds.
-most grown members of the flock that fall under a hunter rank appear as tall and lean cats.
-most grown members of the flock that fall under a warrior rank appear as tall and strong cats.
- servals, cheetahs, lions and sometimes tigers and panthers. very rarely anything else.
