weather: summer.
during summer, you are more likely to run into wranglers on patrols, and rogue groups will most likely start to try and settle on your territory, so keep an eye out. you are still likely to get floods, but there will be more droughts towards the middle of summer. because of the droughts, the grass will start to shrivel up. your herd will still receive new horses but not as much as you would in the spring.

Floyed woke up as the sun touched the Earth to bring yet another peaceful day. He got up from his spot in the make-shift sleeping area and walked around to see Tovar and Crystal sleeping peacefully still. Trying not to wake them, he walked out to do a boarder patrol of the West boarders before returning to camp to graze a bit. Upon his return, Tovar and Crystal were already stirring and waking up. The sun was getting brighter slowly...
Crystal rose and walked towards Floyed, beginning to graze beside him after giving a nod of greeting.
Tovar soon rose as well and left to patrol himself.

Margaret laid out on top of the hill, the sun rising over the fields below the mare lifted herself from the ground, it had been only a day after she marked the borders and decided it was time to go on a patrol. She was in need of more herd-members, and it wouldn't be much of a herd with only one horse in it. She cautiously climbed down the hill, her brown fur glowing in the early sun light. The tall grass danced through the small breezes and the dandelions blew against each other. Margaret walked through the tall grass and patches of flowers as she searched for another horse to join her.

Cherokee watched as Reese came cantering towards him, a mare following closely. "Cherokee, meet Sonya. She is a new scout for our herd." Reese told Cherokee as he and the mare came to a stop. "Nice to meet you, Sonya. I'm Cherokee a guard for this herd." Cherokee introduced himself to the slightly older mare. "Yeah, figured." Sonya replied, looking at Reese. The lead stallion sighed before talking once again, "Sonya, you will be expected to watch over our borders, but also if required and requested by myself or a deputy you are allowed to venture past the borders in order to deal with current affairs. You will be expected to have a guard accompanying you at all times, regardless of whether you are inside or outside our borders," he explained, "Is that clear?" Sonya looked between Reese and then the guard present. She didn't really want to be spending her time patrolling with the young stallion, but whatever was need of her she would do it. "Yeah, sure." She told her new leader. Reese dismissed Cherokee and Sonya with a snort before galloping off in the opposite direction.

Reese galloped along the river, almost challenging it to a race. The river was slow, but a good source of water for the herd and served as a convenient entry to the territory. It was summer now though, so he would have to keep an eye on the spring from the mountain and the river. It would be a disaster if it were to dry up in the heat. Due to the river cutting through the valley, he often patrols that valley despite the fact it wasn't exactly within his borders. You just couldn't know, even the smallest foal could pose a threat to your herd and you need to do everything you can to protect those who are like your family. Now he had to be on extra alert though, not only was his herd small but the threat that wranglers posed it would be detrimental if any of his horses were taken or injured. However, he had no doubt that his horses would be able to find a way to escape.

Sonya grazed peacefully near the shelter provided by trees, enjoying some quiet moments. As soon as she heard a set of thundering hooves she sighed, there would be no chance for her to take a break. She stopped her content grazing to look up, noticing a smug Cherokee galloping full speed towards her. "What do you want?" Sonya asked, annoyed at the disturbance. "Ok, first, rude. Secondly, we should probably be patrolling." Cherokee said, feigning mock offence. Sonya aimed a small kick at Cherokee at the first thing Cherokee had said but soon bolted off towards the eastern border challenging Cherokee to a small race up to the border.

Thunder Valley Herd is a herd that is very closed off from the world around it. each member is only devoted to those who surround them, and those who are in the herd. they are suspicious of any new comers but tend to open up after a week or so. each horse inside is very proud, and usually very vain. mothers and foals are always respected and always protected by the herd members.

they live in a small, closed up valley where summer storms hover over and thunder above. they have a large river that runs through the middle and is susceptible to flooding, especially as the snow melts. each horse is strong a sturdy, and their reputation of being stocky and tough holds true. the younger horses are expected to pull their weight, especially as they start to mature into adults.

everest curiously watched the mare the stars had sent him from afar. she was inspecting the herd's camp with a bright cheerfulness that was quite contagious. she was chosen by us, you must take good care of her, the stars whispered in his ears, their words silent to other horses. everest shook his mane and neighed softly through gritted teeth: i know, there's no need to put extra pressure on me. but you all wouldn't know that; all you do is play with horses lives. no reply shot back at the stallion's accusation, and he wasn't expecting one. the stars were emotionless, they never expressed any anger, only neutral whispers. everest snapped out of his thoughts as orchid trotted towards him. i looked around, this seems like a nice place! thanks for welcoming me into your herd! the leader was snarky from his interaction with his ancestors, but his anger died down considerably at the mare's happiness. no problem, it's me who should thank you for following me into this mess of a herd. would you like a tour of the borders? orchid nodded eagerly, and they set off into the mountains.

Starrfyre Wild Herd

Thunder was happy with the way his herd was expanding. Rainy was a spitfire the moment she met him, but she had joined him in the end. Rainy volunteered to go on a patrol to learn the ropes. She was sure she could do it alone. Thunder had mustered his courage to ask Sunny, and she’d agreed. Thunder was relieved and ecstatic to know their feelings were mutual.

Leroy had found his way into the valley and decided that this place was home. his thick hoofs created large dents along side the river, and he hoped that any lone horse would see his shear size and strength. he wanted other horses to join him and his herd. this was his first patrol and he was looking for good strong horses to join him and his future cause. he whipped his mane and started trotting along the edges of the river, he knew that all kinds of horses could be gathering along side the banks and drinking, and he figured that it would be the best place to recruit horses

Sonya walked through the mini forest accompanying Cheyenne, the new herd healer. They were having a pleasant conversation, mare to mare. "One thing about the stallions, don't let them boss you around sweetie. With work you could even be deputy or leader, you just have to work towards it." The older mare said to Sonya, Cheyenne look around before leaning in closer to Sonya and speaking in a hushed tone. "Plus, Reese seems like a bit of a push-over, doesn't really know what he's doing. You need to take your chance, do your best and get up to deputy. He'll be your little puppet." Cheyenne told the scout. Sonya nodded but kept quiet. If she was completely honest, the healer Reese had recruited kind of scared her and Sonya wasn't scared of much. "So, what are we doing in here?" the scout asked, the other mare hadn't really specified the true reason for her bringing Sonya in there. "Oh, we're looking for herbs. Couldn't you tell?" Cheyenne said, acting as if Sonya was stupid for not figuring that out. Sonya snorted at this but kept her head down, pretending to look for herbs while thinking of how she was going to pay Reese and Cherokee back for sending her to spend time with Cheyenne.

Cherokee walked along the border with Reese, while the two mares were together, the two stallions were talking themselves. "So, what do you think of Cheyenne?" Reese asked the fellow stallion, "Well, she seems a bit scary, but at least we have a healer now. Right?" Cherokee told his leader. So far they had lived pretty peaceful lives, the herd had only been together for five months, Cherokee being there for four of those five. It seemed like every month there was a new member, and Reese was liking the idea. "Yeah, we're lucky we haven't had much trouble at least. But since our herd seems to be growing I have no doubt other herds are too, so we'll have to be careful." Reese warned, looking around every so often as the patrol the border at the entrance of the valley. "Do you know if there are any herds that live in the valley?" Cherokee asked, he knew that Reese tended to patrol down there more than the mountain borders so he wondered if there was a reason. "I don't really know, but I think there could be a chance. At least, a higher chance than a herd at the mountains. It's always good to keep an eye out." Reese explained, enjoying the stallion to stallion talk.

Reese had left Cherokee to finish patrolling the rest of the borders, giving Reese some time to himself. Sonya and Cheyenne still seemed to be looking for herbs so he took that as an okay sign. He stood in the middle of the camp, the sun was starting to set and he could see some stars out. He knew he would be crazy to try, but he had heard that sometimes if you asked the ancestors for something at just the right time and in just the right way they may give it to you. Although at this point he was in real need of a deputy, and he didn't really think he could trust any of his herd mates with that task yet. He could only hope that if the ancestors sent him a horse, that horse would at least know what they are doing. "Ancestors, the ones who paved the way for my herd and guide us through life. I ask you one small thing. I would appreciate a deputy, to guide me in leading my herd and assisting me in times of need." He asked, looking at the sky as he did. Now he just had to have faith.

As the sun rose, so did the horses of the herd. Crystal was the first to awaken as the sun shined on her white fur, making her glow and shimmer like an angel. She rose from her spot and looked around the camp. No one else was up, so she decided to graze a bit before anyone else awoke.
Tovar soon woke up as well, his fur like rocks under the early morning sun. He looked over at Crystal and was put in awe by her beauty. He walked up to her slowly and greeted her shyly, grazing besider her for a moment before proposing they do a boarder patrol. She agreed and they both left for a patrol of the boarders.
Choko woke after the pair left and quickly vanished from the camp, planning to graze while she was out searching for herbs. She wasn’t one for socializing.
Floyed woke last to see his empty camp under the rising sun. He felt lonely, being left in the camp without anyone else. But he knew it was so the herd kept growing, so he went on with his own business and decided to finally acknowledge the stars and request a deputy. Maybe then he wouldn’t be so stressed and lonely...

Crystal and Tovar finished their patrol as the sun began to set and were chatting a lot, much more than when they left. They were having fun together and enjoying the company of one another. Just before they reached the camp, Tovar asked Crystal if she wished to be his mate. Shocked, she stood there still. Thinking. Eventually, she said yes and they went on a detour to the camp to have a romantic evening together.

Sunfire Owl Herd:

Nature:

Hearty, simple-minded, and sweet, the Sunfire Owl Herd is a friendly sight to almost all. Though the brainiacs in the herd might require a thorough search to find, the loyal and kind are plentiful. Each and every one of them would die to protect each other, their leader, and their territory.

Looks:

The horses of this herd are almost all either haflingers or haflinger-like with a pony-like stocky build, easy keeping, but a taller height ranging from 14-16hh. Despite this, the occasional darker/lighter coat color comes up, or a horse of another breed joins. Their thick golden coats are passed down from generation to generation as are their beautiful flowing cream/white manes. They have a great stamina, and their sturdy skeleton helps keep their balance when hiking and fighting.

Territory:

The Sunfire Owl Herd lives on a spacious series of rocky cliffs in the mountainous ranges where there is little grass and only the occasional tree. For this reason, the herd is constantly on the move for forage and stays in one place at maximum a day. When traveling they are led by one or two scouts followed by the leader, then the eldest guard/scout, and then all the rest of the guards/scouts in order of eldest to youngest with a break in the middle where the healer travels along with pregnant mares, or mares with young. Weanlings travel with their mentors and the deputy brings up the rear of the group followed by one or two guards. They do not keep up their borders as much as other herds because of the sheer size of their territory, but will not hesitate to chase a rogue herd out.

Waking up to birds chirping, and the sky showing the pinkish coloring of the sunlight. The liver chestnut stallion rose with great might, shaking himself dirt free, he starts to walk on his territory. Seeing the green valley, looking at what was once his father's. He took great pride in this area. That made the stallion smile.

Being around another horse helped Abacus feel more at home, though, he feels his heart sting whenever he isn't close to her. He doesn't understand this feeling about the mare, and tries to ignore it a lot, but it doesn't help. Every-time he feels bad for hiding it. After waking up one morning after a night of nightmares, he awoke to a strange smell, but a beauty grazing near by him. She kept thrashing her tail side to side, he stood up and walked over to her. They then took a romantic walk together.

"yes, would you like to join the herd?" they nodded and the two turned to go back to camp.


on the return to camp, a black horse emerged from the underbrush, looking startled. after composing themselves, they apologized. whisper then asked them to join the herd, and the newcomer hurriedly agreed.
