Darkstar thought long and hard about what Rosebud had said, and knew that she may have made a mistake, but there was no turning back now. She rested as soon as she got back to camp, knowing that she had to visit her ancestors that night. She requested that Rosebud go with her this time to make sure everything was ok on the long journey. As she and Rosebud were getting ready to leave, she saw that Jackrabbit and Gingerstorm were grooming each other peacefully, while Emberclaw was laughing at Snowbell playfully. She knew that her clan was growing, and it would soon be growing fast.

Clan Tradition:
When an apprentice is ready to become a warrior, they shall go on a week long quest into the Two-Leg territory on the western boarder, where they will look for a monkey by the name of Fitzgerald, and he will make their new clan collar for them. If they succeed then they shall be welcomed back to the clan as a full warrior, if they do not then they will have to train for an additional moon before they are able to try again. If they fail a second time, they are banished from the clan for weakness and a disrespect for clan tradition and law.

Shorefall

Shorefall stared in horror in the direction of the nursery as another yowl of pain ripped through the entire cave system the Clan called home. Dappledawn was already inside the large chamber, assisting the birth of his mate's kits, but the other two, Comfreyleaf and Sandripple, had been waiting outside on standby. The two looked at each other with alarm on their faces before they rushed into the chamber.

Please StarClan, the ginger tabby tom pleaded, squeezing his eyes shut tightly, please, let her live!

The whole of SeaClan seemed to come to a standstill as they realized that Dustflower's life was in the paws of the medicine cats now. Even Quillkit, Periwinklekit, and Ruffkit, who had been sent outside of the nursery to give Dappledawn plenty of room to help around the queens giving birth, had stopped their play-fighting: instead, the three were glancing nervously toward the nursery, having sensed the tension in the air.

The screams eventually stopped, and all eyes seemed to be trained on the entrance to the Cave Path leading to the nursery. A tired, resigned-looking Dappledawn walked through the dim entrance, her whiskers drooping with grief. Shorefall's heart seemed to skip a beat as the calico medicine cat announced quietly,

"Shorefall, Ivynose, Daisysong, Goldenmist, please come with me."

You have to get a hold of yourself, the former SedgeClan deputy thought to himself as he struggled to put one paw in front of the other, his strength failing him at the news of his mate's imminent death, for the sake of my kits...

Shorefall glanced at his three, fully-grown adopted kits, and nodded slowly. It was time. Taking a deep breath, the ginger tabby followed Dappledawn inside, hearing three sets of paws behind him.

<The nursery>
In the dim recesses of the chamber, the first thing he heard was the tiny mewling of newborn kits, followed by soft sobbing from the mothers, obviously distraught by the news of Dustflower's current condition. The former SedgeClan deputy took a deep breath and forced himself onwards, until he came to a heart-wrenching scene: his beloved, beautiful mate, laying on her side, her flanks barely moving with each ragged breath she took, with three tiny, wet scraps of fur that were their newborn kits clinging to their dying mother desperately for warmth. Shorefall felt his throat tightening at the scene, but he forced himself to stay calm. Crouching down, the ginger tabby pressed his nose into his mate's flank and meowed gently, feeling hot tears coursing down his face (and onto his mate), "Goodnight, sweet Dustflower, and may the whole host of StarClan guide you to your rest." Dustflower raised her head weakly toward the voice of her mate and murmured, "Forgive me, Shorefall, I-" "Shhh," her mate interrupted, licking her muzzle, "no, my love." He indicated for Ivynose and Daisysong to come round their mother's side; the former meowed softly, lying down next to the lilac torbie queen, "Mum, we all know you will be looking down on us from above. Don't worry about us." Daisysong, keeping her composure as usual, added, laying her tail gently on one of her mother's paws, "And we will take care of our siblings. Won't we, Ivynose? Her brother agreed, "Aye." Brimflower promised, her soft mew ringing inside the chamber, "I will take care of your kits, at least until they can eat solid fresh-kill." The other queens with newborn kits all voiced their agreement with the fawn calico.

Goldenmist
Goldenmist, who had been silent for the entire time, pressed her nose into her adopted mother's flank and meowed, "Dustflower. Mum. You took me in all those moons ago, as a helpless kit, left alone in the world after my birth mother and siblings were killed by a merciless badger. You loved me as equally as the kits you gave birth to. I could never had a better mother than that. You have gone through so much, especially in the last few moons. You lost so many of your own family, yet bore no negativity to anyone. You are an absolute angel," she whispered, her voice finally failing her as she began to cry, "and you only deserve the best. I hope you will finally get the rest you deserve now."

Dustflower
The lilac torbie queen lifted her head weakly and gazed at her kits, murmuring tiredly, "If... if I may, Shorefall... may I name the three kits I must leave behind? It... it feels selfish of me," she added hastily with a weak laugh, which ended in a pained wince, "but..." Her ginger-furred mate shook his head and gently interrupted, "I do not mind at all, my love. In fact... I was going to ask you to name them if you hadn't asked." The dying she-cat smiled faintly and mewed, focusing her gaze on the closest, a ginger-and-white tom-kit, "This one will be Celandinekit." She then continued, as Shorefall nosed the other ginger kit, a she-kit, "and the ginger she-kit will be... Purslanekit." Finally, as Shorefall gently nosed a mewling torbie she-kit toward his mate, Dustflower whispered, her head resting on the floor once again as her strength failed her, "and this little beauty will be called Bramblingkit."

Dustflower did not speak again after the naming of her third and final kit, her eyes closing for the last time as the lilac torbie let out a soft sigh. There was, for the briefest of moments, absolute silence in the entire nursery, before the sound of newborn kittens mewling desperately for both warmth and milk interrupted it. It was after another moment that Goldenmist was the first to move, offering warmth to her adopted siblings as Dappledawn seemed to take charge of the situation. The dappled medicine cat's green eyes were dull with sorrow, though her voice remained calm and strong in the grief-filled atmosphere of the dim chamber as she instructed, "Goldenmist, please take them down to Brimflower's nest, then join us in the medicine cats' den. She will provide milk for them for the time being. Daisysong, Ivynose, please escort Shorefall to the medicine cats' den. Comfreyleaf, follow them please. Sandripple-" She turned to the older tabby tom as she concluded, "please ask Carrotstar to follow us into the medicine cats' den before coming in." The former medicine cat of RidgeClan nodded as he left. Shorefall protested, his gaze firmly locked onto the still figure of his deceased mate, "I can't... I can't leave her like this..." Comfreyleaf promised firmly, nosing the much-older tom toward the entrance as his adopted kits stepped into line on either side of him, "We will give her a funeral and a vigil you will never forget. We promise. All of SeaClan mourns the death of Dustflower, not just you, Shorefall." After a moment, the ginger tabby tom relented, his whiskers drooping with grief. Nodding numbly, he allowed his adopted kits and the gray-furred medicine cat to lead him to the medicine cats' den.

Carrotstar
It was like the aftermath of the attempted rogue invasion all over again, with so many of the Clan openly weeping, curling around each other for comfort, yet the only death was that of the Clan's beloved mother figure, Dustflower. The ginger-and-white tabby tom took a deep breath and took a few steps toward the Meeting Ledge before Sandripple stopped him with a flicker of his tail. The former RidgeClan medicine cat meowed quietly, "Dappledawn wants you at the medicine cats' den. Perhaps to discuss how to handle and perform Dustflower's funeral." Carrotstar nodded firmly, meowing, "Absolutely," and silently followed the small tabby tom to the den the three medicine cats shared.

<At the medicine cats' den>
Dappledawn meowed, her voice trembling ever so slightly as she finally let go of her tightly-held emotions, "Carrotstar, we must prepare Dustflower's body for the Remembrance Ceremony, as well as for the funeral. Who will carry her body, for starters?" Carrotstar began, "Ancient Clan traditions tell us the Clan elders will usually do so; however, as Thicketscar is our only elder at this time, I suggest Shorefall will decide, as he is next of kin, being her mate." Dappledawn dipped her head in agreement, turning her questioning gaze to the bereaved ginger tom. Shorefall seemed to have aged many moons in the space of those few moments, his body trembling visibly in an effort to prevent himself from crying. He meowed after several moments of him trying (but his voice failing), "I will bear her body myself. Ivynose, Daisysong, and Goldenmist will help me." "Of course," Ivynose agreed immediately, echoed quickly by the rest of his siblings. "I will then ask the,Clan to return to their respective chambers to prepare for the Remembrance Ceremony as you prepare her body." Comfreyleaf dipped her head in agreement, meowing, "Very well, Carrotstar. That should provide us some quiet as we do our best." "Agreed," Daisysong replied, her voice quavering slightly.

➳ territory; in the depths of a forest, featherclan's home is sheltered
beneath the cover of the trees above their heads. here, where rainfall is average and
prey is plenty, the clan is capable of many resources. this particular territory holds the
basic creations of nature; greenery, soil, life.

➳ reputation; the reputation of the clan is quite well. many cats apart of fallenclan
are known to be humble, wise, and compassionate. due to the well crafted materials that
surround them, they are well-fed during most seasons, which gives them a much healthier
appearance, in addition.

➳ prey; prey consists of the following: mice, birds, finches, squirrels, voles, rabbits,
chipmunks, weasels, along with many more small morsels.
