▶ STORY NOTES

- Last moon, Silvia explored the Falls and interacted with her ancestors for the first time. She asked for her friends to see reason in joining her, only to encounter her clanmates engaged in fierce battle with her brother upon returning home. After convincing them to stop the fight, Silvia, now Silverstar, introduces the small group to each other, and she assigns each of them a clan rank and name. This moon, the tensions are exceptionally high. Arilwrath disapproves of the trust that Silverstar puts in Aldernight, and the two tomcats often find themselves fighting for Silverstar's attention. Silverstar urges Arilwrath to hunt with her while they talk things out; they encounter the soon-to-be Muntjackit wandering around. Meanwhile, Aldernight unleashes his inner fury through the means of a lone patrol.

CascadeClan shelters in a small, lush, fertile river-valley centered around a pond. The weather is mostly warm, moist, and humid. A farm can be found on the hill northwest of Cascade known as the Ryefields. Wheat is grown there and it makes the perfect hunting ground. To the east of Cascade is a jungle filled with exotic creatures known as the Wildcries. It's rumored that another Clan lives deep in the tropics, but no cat of Cascade has ever met one of theirs. The jungle is the second hunting ground, but only skilled cats can go in there, as the Wildcries are a very dangerous place. Cats of Cascade also fish in the pond. However, it will easily flood during the rain. Cascade cats' dens are out in the open. They sleep in nests made of lush grass. All cats sleep in the same area regardless of rank. However, sick cats sometimes stay at the farm. Cascade cats can be found in all colors, though some are less common than others. Grey and black-furred felines are seen often, with russet coming in as a close second. Brown is significantly rarer for whatever reason, as is cream. Solid white is much more common than partially white, though these felines rank in between greys and brown, and of course, only shorthaired cats or naive, pampered, or lost kittypets dare to venture in the wilds near the equator.

▶ THE STORY

Last Moon:
aaaaaThe silvery-furred feline walked into the clearing, her pelt glimmering in the soft morning sunlight. “Abraxus,” she called in a purr. She licked her chest like an embarrassed schoolgirl twiddling her fingers, then meowed, “Come on, Abraxus—I have something important to tell you.”
aaaaaAbraxus growled. “You, say something important?” he scoffed beneath his breath. “Yeah, whatever. Speak to my tail.”
aaaaaChoosing to ignore that comment, Silvia explained, “I think the stars have sent me a sign. I saw… lights. Above the forest. And I’m going to follow them.”
aaaaa“Oh, will you now?” the black rogue muttered. “Go ahead, then—I’ll just sit around and protect camp until you’re back.”
aaaaa“Really?” Silvia exclaimed. “That’s what I meant to ask you—thank you!” she gushed. “I’m going to leave right now, but don’t worry, ‘braxus—I’ll be back soon!”
aaaaaThe tomcat watched idly as his kittypet leader raced out of camp. Perhaps she would die out there; then, he wouldn’t have to deal with her kittish ideals anymore.
aaaaaWith a lazy wave of his tail, Abraxus beckoned Sari out of the single, makeshift den that stood to the side of camp, and the black bicolor molly approached inquisitively. “What was that about?” she questioned in bemusement.
aaaaaAbraxus flicked his tail in dismissal. “Silvia being Silvia,” he said with a vague amount of scorn entwined around his usual, aloof voice.
aaaaa“She’s quite the minnow you caught,” Sari commented, only for the darker-furred of the two to huff in response.
aaaaa“There is nothing going on between us,” he stated. “The clouds would sooner descend from the sky before I involve myself with her pitiful life.” He licked his fangs, then turned to Sari. “Are you pooling?” the former rogue questioned, somewhat startled at the thought.
aaaaaSari cleared her throat and grinned at Abraxus. “Yes, in fact. Met ‘im at the Gathering.”
aaaaa“Do you even know his name?”
aaaaa“Nah, but it’ll be a good litter, I bet.”
aaaaaThe older rogue slowly shook his head. “Only you, Sari, would say something like that.”

aaaaaSilvia gasped at the sight of water cascading down the shimmering rocks. “It’s beautiful…” she whispered to herself.
aaaaaCautiously, the she-cat inched towards the plunge basin. She dipped her paw into the water, quickly at first, then waded deeper into the pool. Sights set on the area beneath the outcropping of the falls, she paddled towards it. The warm water combed through her fur and she struggled to keep her mind from drifting off, never having felt a sensation nearly as relaxing before.
aaaaaBeside her, the water continued to crash down, and she pulled her ears back, wary of the strength that the falling liquid possessed. Silvia presented a wide berth between herself and the falls, not wanting to accidentally subject herself to going under.
aaaaaOnce she reached the other side of the rather small pool, the silvery molly pulled herself up onto land. She shook her fur out, sending droplets into the air, and found herself peering into a darkened cave. With a mysterious smile, the feline raced inside, eyes searching until she discovered the crack of light coming from a slight tear in the wall of the cave.
aaaaaThe silver-furred molly watched in reverence, then descended into a relaxed crouching position, head bowed down. “Thank you,” the soon-to-be leader whispered to the dancing dust in the light. “Thank you; oh, thank you, thank you thank you.”

aaaaaShe raced back to camp, light on her paws, emitting an unnatural amount of exuberant energy; accordingly, her eyes shone brightly, excited to share the news with her two clanmates. Oh, how proud they would be! The newly named Silverstar imagined Abraxus grinning at her lazily, and Sari with a repressed smile on her maw.
aaaaaSadly, the growls and yowls of a battle cut her fantasy short, and reality greeted Silverstar with a sharp yank on the tail.
aaaaa“Leave, and do not return!” she heard Abraxus threaten.
aaaaaThe black-furred tom glared from a battle crouch at another tomcat; the latter possessed grey, matted fur and a strangely familiar scent. He bared his fangs. “I scent her here, rogue, and my nose has not failed me yet! Tell me what you did to her before I dig my claws into that pretty fur of yours.”
aaaaaDread crept into Silverstar’s stomach when she first stumbled upon the scene; however, she quickly identified the ragged, grey outsider. “Harún!” the leader called out. She ran towards him, stopping just in time to make out his bewildered expression.
aaaaaHarún blinked at Silverstar, dumbfounded. Then, “Silvia?” he realized. “You’ve grown—and you scent different.”
aaaaa“I know!” the molly agreed. “Isn’t it great? I—the stars called and I answered. After all these seasons, they’ve finally reached out to us—to me!” She turned and called out, “Abraxus! I did it, and I know what to call everything! They gave me the gift of insight—it’s incredible!”
aaaaaThe former rogue barely inclined his head in acknowledgement, too busy glaring at the ragged tom who, upon sensing the hostility, bared his fangs once more. He backed up, burying his muzzle in Silvia’s fur as he murmured, “I don’t trust him, Sil. He gives me those bad-guy vibes and I don’t like it.”
aaaaaInquisitivity crossed Silverstar’s face, but she dismissed it quickly. “I haven’t introduced the two of you,” she said instead. “Abraxus, this is my brother, Harún; Harún, my friend, Abraxus.” Her tail flicked in between the corresponding cats. “And… Abraxus, where’s Sari?”
aaaaa“Lazing around in the Lodge,” the feline huffed, finally breaking his gaze away from Harún and redirecting it at Silvia in an intimidating fashion that she’d earlier meant “we need to talk.”
aaaaaWhen Abraxus made no attempt to elucidate on his words, Silvia nodded hesitantly. “Oh. Okay.” She flicked her tail and shared, “Come on, you two. Let’s go back to camp, and I’ll tell both of you and Sari everything. And Harún, I’ll make sure you’re caught up.” Later with both tomcats in tow, the molly added, “Oh, and both of you? I’m not sure what happened back there, but I’m the leader now, and I say no fighting.”
aaaaaWith her leading the way, the molly saw neither Abraxus’ silent scoff nor the wariness in Harún’s eyes. She failed to note that the claws of both remained unsheathed.

Jeweleyes was fixing up the nests in the family den when Scorchfur finally got off his patrols. He eyed the she-cat, noticing that Lakedream wasn't present. "Good evening, hon." He greeted, giving a small smile.
"Oh, Scorchfur!" She dipped her head nervously. "Do you need more feathers for your nest? I caught a seagull today, it still had a lot of soft feathers." She offered.
He put a tail on Jeweleyes' flank, attempting to reassure her that there is no reason to be nervous around him. "Why don't you take them to Olivegaze? I'm sure she'd like some for her and the kit's nest. I bet some of the kits in the nursery would love them." He offered.
Jeweleyes smiled at the older tom. "Alright, thank you sir." She answered, dipping her head.
Scorchfur shook his head. "You can just call me by name. No need for the formalities. After all, you should be my daughter-in-law soon when Lakedream gets the guts to ask you." He gave her a wink, seeing the smile grow on her face. She trotted out of the den, mouth full of small feathers.


─ This Moon ─

Olive had one kit clinging to her backside, along with two in her maw by the scruff. She still had barely thought of names for the kits, thinking of her dear friend Aina. She couldn't believe how cold Aslan had come once she had died kitting. She knew she had to take the kits, remembering the words the white she-cat had told her before she went into labor. She promised to take care of her kits if anything happened to her, she was just upset she wasn't able to get Aina's other two kits. Aslan was losing it, he only wanted to keep the other two kits for their look-alike to Aina.
She was walking pretty slow, but she knew she had to keep going. It was getting really hot and muggy in this odd forest. Daleel had told her to wait in a cave while he scouted out an area. He said there was a clan his brother was staying in supposedly, he heard a few things from the gatherings. He told her if he doesn't come back to the den in three full days, to head west to find him. She gulped as she moved across the terrain, coming up to a cliff side. She looked out the edge of the cliff, amazed by the sight of the ocean. She had never seen the ocean before, but she remember seeing them in pictures in her old twoleg's nest. She saw a path down to the beach, deciding to go down by the water to be a little more cool. As she made it to the sand, she noticed a group of cats walking along the wall of the cliff. Her eyes went wide, worried that they could be hostile. She hid the kits behind her out of view of the cats. "Stay silent." She reminded at their wines of protest. She could see their quivering, feeding off her nervous vibes.
"You there! What are you doing on our beach?" A grey tom called to her firmly, giving her a grim stare.
Olive gulped, looking the tom in the eyes. "I'm looking for my friend, I think he came to your clan." She answered, taking a step back to be closer to the hidden kits. She kept her claws in, but was ready to defend herself if needed.
"Scorchfur, don't be so harsh. Jasminestar told us to keep an eye out for Sandowl's mate." An all black she-cat hissed.
Scorchfur looked Olive up and down. "He told us a she-cat named Olive would come looking for him soon, but he also mentioned kits. Where are they?" He pushed, visibly concerned.
Olive let out a sigh of relief, Daleel had made it to the clan! And now he was named Sandowl...? She didn't want to worry about that now, she turned around to the spot the kits were hidden.
The three bundled together and their eyes were wide. "Is everything okay Momma?" The blind she-kit questioned, whispering.
Olive nuzzled her cheek. "Yes, baby. We're safe now." She answered, grabbing her by the scruff. She motioned her tail to the two toms to follow her. She brought the kits out to the open and looked at the group. "Can you help us?" She asked, her eyes begging.
The black she-cat trotted to her, touching noses. "Of course, come back to our camp. We'll find a she-cat to nurse the little ones as well." She looked at the kits, smiling. "I'm Nightroot by the way." She added.
Olive smiled wide, allowing Nightroot and another cat in the group to pick up the two tom kits. She followed the group back towards their camp. She could feel the knots along her back from stress loosening.
