season: greenleaf / summer
the territories are in full bloom during the hottest time of the year. prey is bountiful during
this time of the year, and herbs can be found in abundance. kittings will be handled smoothly,
and cats are still around who might be in need of a new home. however, predators are also
fond of the warm weather, and cats who overwork themselves may find themselves suffering
from dehydration and exhaustion.

• i recommend noting if there are any cats that you'd prefer be skipped over in the case of death rolls/injuries

Zinnia will need x1 burdock root to treat the bite, as well as x1 cobweb to stem the bleeding. Lotusseed is confident that Zinnia will need no time off from training.
↳↳↳ Shamrock learned the Climb skill. The young she-cat hopped down from the tree with a triumphant yowl, only to stumble and fall muzzle-first into the dirt. Zwartkopshadow's whiskers twitched in amusement as she watched Shamrock nurse her bruised muzzle and ego.

"And you have everything packed?" Promisedrose asked, pacing behind Lotusseed as the Lady nimbly wound cobwebs
around Zinnia's injury.

The healer nodded, not letting her eyes off her patient. "Including the last few herbs I harvested yesterday. Bundled
and ready to carry." Zinnia nodded, grinning at the Crown Rose. "Me and Shamrock have been practicing, we carried
our packs all the way to that metal tree!"

Lotusseed fixed the tom with a stern glare. "That was before a rat bit your shoulder. If you think you'll be carrying
that much weight you clearly are hiding a head injury from me."

Promisedrose's ears twitched back and she glanced at the bags lining the wall of Lotusseed's section of the fence.
"But you said-"

"I did," Lotusseed replied calmly, leaning back from Zinnia and padding to the fallen blue container that had filled
with rainfall overnight, dipping her paws in it to dissolve the remaining cobwebs. "I split his old pack into two,
since Callashell won't be able to carry a full load either."

Promisedrose nodded, though her uneasy expression didn't shift. "And you're positive it's safe for her to travel
with us? We could-"

Lotusseed shook her head, cutting off the Blooming Rose. "She'll be fine to travel as long as she takes it easy, and
she's got a light enough pack that won't be a problem. We'll take it slow, it's only a two day trip at a regular pace,
we have enough food and we can hunt along the way that stretching it to three won't be a problem. Now, I'm good
here, so you go ahead and check in on Dustystep, and make sure the new stopping points will still work."

"So once they're weaned I can just....step back?" Callashell repeated, side-eying the pale ginger tom. "And that's
fine with everyone?"

Peonystem nodded. "Of course, you'll have duties as a knight, to hunt and to check the border, and if necessary
to fight. The Knights of the Thorn will take care of the camp as well as those within, kits included."

"But there...aren't any of those around. You said all the others were Knights of the Petal like me, same rank
except for Cordy who's kinda our squad-boss."

Peonystem's eye twitched, which Callashell happily ignored in favor of continuing to question him. "And if this

"Promotion to Knight of the Thorn is an unfathomable achievement," Peonystem replied. "It is a sign that the
court views you with the highest regard. The only thing more significant would be to be promoted to a Lord
or Lady. As such, certain...benefits are rewarded. A Thorn Knight's duties would be by volunteer only. If they
desire to continue serving in the same capacity as a Petal Knight, they are more than welcome to do so, they
will simply be placed as head of those patrols. If they desire to protect the camp, they will be assigned so."

"And if they want to spend their whole days carin for kits?"

"Then they will be assigned to Sprout detail."

"But you still ain't got any of them around."

Peonystem sighed heavily. "We will, once the move is complete. Plans are in motion, it would simply be
futile to promote someone in one location only to have them move and adapt to a new home. We want
to see everyone's adaptability throughout this move. And if the possible incentive of promotion causes
them to work harder, well then I fail to see the problem. I can assure you, Sir Callashell, we will have
Knights of the Thorn before your kits are weaned. And if for some forsaken reason Peria disrupts our
plans, then I promise you that the Lord or Lady of the Thorn will watch over them, because we
WILL have a full court by the end of the moon, this I swear."

"Nope."

"Cordyli-"

"I said nope." the orange she-cat shook her head. "I'm all for finishin the court, and I'm all for becomin a
Knight of the Thorn if'n that's what you want of me. But I aint cut out for the Lady nonsense and you
all know that."

Promisedrose carefully avoided looking towards Peonystem, who had an incredibly smug expression
pointed her way at the moment. "But Cordy, you've been here the longest, I know you, and I know you'd
be such a good Lady of the Thorn."

"I'd be a good Knight of the Thorn" Cordylineblade replied. "But I won't join the court, there's others
who'd do a better job of it than me. And before you go askin, no it ain't Zwartkopshadow. She's a fine
knight, and maybe oneday she'd even be a Knight o' Thorns. But her place, and mine, ain't in your court,
it's to serve the Court as a whole. And we do that best as Knights."

"Well then, who could we name instead?" Promisedrose stressed. "I wanted them to have time to get
used to the idea and the duties over the journey, so that the first night in our new home I can name
them. It can't be Callashell, she's expecting and....from your conversations with her I really don't
think promoting her to anything of the Thorn would be welcomed. At least not now." she finally
glanced towards Peonystem, tilting her head at the look he was sharing with Lotusseed.

Lotusseed smiled slightly, shaking her head. "You always said you wanted it to be someone you know
and trust right? Well, of Scallionsnarl and Dustystep...it should be a pretty obvious choice."

Promisedrose stared blankly at the pair, gaze flicking from one to the other. "What do you mean?"

Peonystem sighed. "Promisedrose, the whole reason we're moving is because-"

"Because this garden is too small for long-term livability? I've known that from day one, I dont-"

"Because you trust Dustystep. Even before you sent us to scout it out, you trusted that the location
he knew of would be good for the Court. And having been there already myself, I agree. He
may be....an unconventional choice. And he's certainly a bit...newer to the Court than I would have
preferred. But he clearly cares. He told us of a perfect place for us to grow, and more than that, he
left his home to travel there with you."

Promisedrose ducked her head, breaking the eye contact she'd made with Lotusseed while the Lady was
speaking. "But he-"

"Look, just trust us on this," Peonystem said with a smile. "Talk with him, and if he's open to it, then
watch how he takes care of the Court during the move."

Promisedrose glanced back towards Cordylineblade "And you're sure I cant change your-"

"No."

They had been right.

Promisedrose had pulled Dustystep away from his packing of the fresh-kill pile- one of the last things to be
prepared before their departure. She'd definitely stammered a bit throughout her request, but he'd
seemed surprised and flattered by the decision of the court to trial him as the Lord of the Thorn.

And during the move he'd been perfect.

He'd helped Callashell, even taking her pack in addition to his own during the last few hours of each day,
and helping make sure that Zinnia and Shamrock were keeping pace with the rest of them.

And every night he'd helped make sure Callashell got enough food to feed both her and her unborn kits.

Slowly but surely, Promisedrose realized that Lotusseed and Peonystem had been right. And with a smile,
she had announced the change to the rest of the Court once they'd arrived.

The garden, if you could even call it that, was definitely just as run down as Dustystep had warned. But
it had potential. It was big, and the little fences there were didn't fully encompass it. The plants were
definitely overgrown, but with some help from Lotusseed and Zwartkopshadow, the rest of the Court
would be able to work on that. And sure there weren't any dens yet, but what they'd had in the old
garden had barely qualified.

This place was ruined now, sure...but it had potential. They could work one small area at a time, and
expand as they needed. They had the space, the rest could follow.

They were home.

He said to Newstar, "Glass has been-- er, Glassfang has been telling me about this clan situation, and I want to give it a try. I can help provide food and protection." His tail - which Newstar could now see was indeed missing the last two or three paw-lengths - was swishing nervously. Newstar blinked reassuringly at Half-tail. "You are welcome here, of course," they said.

Later that evening, from the top of the Bow, Newstar said, "Half-tail, do you promise to uphold the warrior code and to protect and defend your Clan, even at the cost of your life?" The tabby tom sitting beneath the Bow puffed up his chest fiercely and meowed, "I do." Newstar smiled. "Then as First Star is my witness," they said, "I give you your warrior name. Half-tail, from this moment, you will be known as Pineclaw. We welcome you as a warrior of Saltclan!" Pineclaw's fur fluffed up with pride as his new clanmates yowled his new name.

"Thanks for coming along with me," Newstar said to Sunstone. The two cats picked their way through the wetlands. "I know it's not a typical duty for you, but..." Newstar was unsure how to broach the topic. Sunstone purred patiently and said, "But you have questions about Starclan, yeah?"
Newstar nodded. "I understand that they're meant to be a cat's warrior ancestors," they said. "Of course, I don't have any warrior ancestors. I don't even remember my mother." The two cats walked a bit further in silence before Newstar continued. "When I speak to Starclan at the Starpool, I feel like I'm talking to the literal stars. I don't sense any other cat, dead or otherwise. But... I asked Starclan for you." Sunstone's ears perked up. Newstar told him about asking for a medicine cat and a strong warrior, and their wishes being granted. "I just don't understand how that's possible," said Newstar. "I was content to simply carry the beliefs of clans before us, but if they're real... Who are they? And why haven't they spoken to me?"
Sunstone thought quietly for a while, then said, "In my old clan, we had a tradition. Halfway through an apprentice's training, the medicine cat would bring them to speak to Starclan. This way, the young cats may learn about their ancestors from their ancestors. I would like to bring Whitepaw to the Starpool on the next new moon; you should come, too." Sunstone brushed against Newstar reassuringly. "Starclan is mysterious by nature," he said. "But I get the feeling that they like you."

Glassfang had given Pineclaw a choice of hunting ground, so he went with what he knew. The lot on this side of the thunderpath was overgrown and out of use for most of the year. Sometimes twolegs would leave their monsters in the lot, but they were usually taken away by a bigger monster. Either way, there was plenty of prey in the long grass and wild bushes surrounding the lot. Pineclaw relished the idea of running into one of his loner acquaintances - he'd show them "half-tail"!

The giant live oak at the northern edge of the delta was the perfect place to practice climbing. Many of the oldest branches drooped close to the ground, so any falls shouldn't hurt...much.
