\\ Darkear sniffed at the rabbit warren, eyeing out holes that might lead in and out. Knowing she failed her hunt and provisions were starting to running low after the harsh leafbare, so she knew if this warren was stormed, it would provide her with meals and recognition. Darkear strutted towards camp, ready to get some cats to quickly hunt. Who knew how much time she had. So she sped up. Meanwhile, Hootstar and Whitethroat were returning with his apprentice, ready to get started. But they were interrupted by something tiny, a kit trying to get their attention. "E-excuse me sirs... Can you help me?" She seemed quite frantic and was looking around the moor. "Why, of course, little one. What's your name?" "G-ginger, sir..." They seemed to keep their manners even when this frightened. "Alright. Why don't you come to camp with us and we'll see what you need?" And so the camp was gathered, a meeting was called. They had already talked and settled things with Darkear and Ginger. "Cats of Runningclan, today is an active day. We must be vigilant. First, Darkear has found a rabbit warren and we will send some cats to hunt. Darkear will lead Cocoaface, Whitethroat and his apprentice to flush out the warren. You should be off as soon as possible." The others dipped their head and started to gather to set off. "As for the rest of you... Pinefang, Cherrydusk, will you accompany me to find this kit's sibling and father?" The others agreed, and, with Ginger leading the way, both patrols went to accomplish their task. //

agarictail, put simply, was bored out of his mind.

perhaps that was a good thing. the clan was safe, there was nothing that needed to be done, and ugh, there was nothing that needed to be done.

there is a comfort that comes with busywork, you see. agarictail had acknowledged this as a fundamental truth of life a long time ago. and as such, when he was surrounded by nothing but objective safety, when there was nothing that needed to be done, he was incapable of entertaining himself. such a thing simply was not done when one lived alone, after all, not when there was nobody to look over your shoulder for you. not like there was in breezeclan.

living alone in the forest and along the riverbank had been a dangerous life. the summers were sweltering hot, and the heat was as deadly as it was everlasting. it sunk its claws of death into anything it could reach, and heatstroke did not discriminate.

but now, surrounded by cats he could trust, cats he would go as far as to call family...well, there was still that ever-persistent itch, the want to turn around and make sure you weren't being followed. sometimes—not horrible often, but often enough that it, on occasion, made him wonder if it truly was just a phantom itch—he felt like he was being watched.

yes, there was comfort in busywork, and perhaps that was why agarictail decided to make some.

"why am i here again?" babyflop asked, her eyes flitting around to the rest of her gathered clanmates. the only ones absent were mushroomstar themselves and lemonfoot, who was as introverted as they came and avoided large crowds like the plague. not that six was large crowd, at least not to agarictail, but it seemed that lemonfoot's fur prickled when they were...surrounded. agarictail didn't much like the implications of that, especially not after...well.

"you should familiarize yourself with the borders," agarictail said. "you don't want to find some useful herbs only to find that you encroached onto someone else's borders. peace is fragile, we don't want it to be shattered because someone made a mistake."
"that makes sense," babyflop admitted, and then the rest of the patrol was silently trotting behind agarictail.

they checked, double-checked, and triple-checked the borders, and when agarictail could see that the rest of the patrol was falling into routine. (he heard babyflop mutter under her breath: "check for foreign scents, ensure the border lines are in the same place, scan for strangers, and i'm in a coma,") and he had to stop himself from laughing out loud.

"hey, um..." came the soft voice of stiltnose, one of their newest members. "what's that?"

they tilted their head in what at first seemed to be a random direction, but as agarictail turned, he was sure there was a shape there. not a cat, not a badger or a dog...nothing agarictail recognized. it was just a shape, like the sunlit sky was a flimsy illusion, and a hole had been punched through it to reveal the darkness beneath.

"i don't know," agarictail admitted, and then, as quickly as it had appeared, the shape (The Shadow, agarictail's mind supplied, and that was a very stupid name.)

they turned tail and left back to camp, and as they approached, babyflop came up beside agarictail and bumped his side with her's. "i don't know what that was," she admitted. "but i don't like it."

agarictail paused for a moment before replying. "yes. yes, neither do i."

he went to sleep that night with the feeling of unmoving eyes nearby. watching. waiting.

newleaf -- the cold weather has finally left, and prey and predators alike have decided to come out in full force. while prey isn't as plentiful as it would be in greenleaf, the abundance compared to leafbare is not an unwelcome sight. new cats are more common as well as they search for a new home after a harsh leafbare. floods or sickness are still possible, so it's important medicine cats keep herbs at paw and warriors keep their wits about them on patrols.

MONSOON CLAN

Territory
This clan lives in a swamp/marsh biome; it consists mostly of water with a few scarce patches of dryland scattered throughout. Few clusters of tress dot the landscape and over the horizon looms vast forests. Even during hottest days of summer, the air remains humid. Most mornings, the marsh is shrouded by fog. The clan's camp is situated on the largest patch of dryland. Conveniently, it is in the more elevated part of the marsh, so it does not flood during heavy rains. Space dug out underneath large bushes and fallen logs provide shelter for the various ranks. The medicine cat's den/herb storage is a repurposed badger den that was long abandoned. The leader addresses the clan on a pointed rock in the middle of camp.

Behavior
This clan got its name because of its dependence on the rains and water. Unlike other cats, these cats are most comfortable in water and have special traits that help them with this lifestyle (see common appearance). Their diet consists almost entirely on species found in water, they hold their breath underwater for a longer amount of time, they can see better underwater and most of their fighting techniques are also adapted to their lifestyle. In leaf-fall and leaf-bare, when the water freezes over, they are forced to resort to their "winter diet" and eagerly await the rains that signal new-leaf.

Common Appearance
Monsoon clan cats have adapted to their life underwater. Their outer fur coats are short and sleek to help keep dry. They have streamlined bodies and webbing between their toes. Common eye colors are brown/hazel/green. Coat colors are usually on the darker side (black/dark brown/brown/red). Medium tone colors are uncommon (dark grey/tan) and pale colors are very rare (white/ash/orange). Most cats are solid colored or are bicolored/tortoiseshell. Occasional striped tabbies can be seen as well.

Personality
Monsoon clan cats are known for their versatility and loyalty. They are good problem solvers and are more brains over brawns. Due to their weird life style, they can come across as odd. Though loyal, these cats are not easily forgiving and can hold grudges for generations.

Briarstar left the camp, slightly on edge. His plan would never work out if he didn't gather more cats. To be honest, he didn't even think he was actually speaking to Starclan. When he spoke with the ancestors, it felt like he was being suffocated by their presence. It was overwhelming. But he felt empowered, he felt stronger. Whoever these cats were, they were helping him out.

the water dripped down from the caves, stalactites? yes, they were stalactites, brairstar had explained what they were earlier. frosteyes glanced around, it was easy to get lost in the caves, so he was leaving behind brightly colored rocks that he had found in the river as a path. smart tom. frosteyes did not really know where he was going, he had never visited the cavern before. brairstar had said it was like a thousand stars, all compiled in one place. you look up, and it’s as if you are staring at the heavens, and seeing silverpelt itself. he had felt compelled to travel there, after he had asked the leader about it. the clan was definitely growing, they now had a medicine cat. frosteyes had been the one to ask brairstar to pray to her gods -- she called them starclan -- for a medicine cat. they were going to need one, the clan was growing(though he did not know that brairstar had encountered one in his absence). she had needed to go to them for a different matter. the tom couldn’t remember. frosteyes was fast approaching the cave, he hadn’t really wanted to go, but brairstar said it was necessary for new deputies. and before long, the frost-white tom had reached the moonlit cavern.
it truly was breathtaking. crystals hung from above, like the stalactites that he had seen earlier. there was a narrow tunnel to the outside, a cold wind blew in from there, but the moonlight peered in. and when it lit the cavern, the name came to light. the moonlit cavern.
‘we go when the moon is at its brightest, that is when we can communicate to starclan the best, and the cave is much more captivating’ yeah, he thought, the cave was still pretty, but it would be much prettier if the moon was brighter.
a cold wind stirred the deputy from his thoughts. “hello frosteyes. what is the reason for your trek here? it is not time of the moon.”

“oh my! when was the last time I talked to you?” brairstar exclaimed with happiness as they hunted, “it was moons ago! do your remember the first time we played in the snow? now look where we are!” palerose smiled at his friend, he did remember.
“I think the last time we talked was around 20 moons ago, and now look where you are! a leader! wow. how did this happen? where did my bubbly, soft, shy friend go?” palerose knocked her on the shoulder, and the two laughed joyfully.
brairstar smiled at him, then meowed, “I’m right here! but I have duties now, so.....” she dragged out the ‘so,’ rolling her eyes. no one had ever seen briarstar like this, only palerose and her old family. she did have a fun side, however much she wanted to be seen as a good leader. “anyways, palerose, we should probably do what we are here for, all this talking will scare away the prey.”

the walk was silent. birds chirped, the sun stretched through the birch trees, sootsage thought that the rays were trying to grab her and the medicine cat. the medicine cat who was extremely silent. glimpsebark didn’t even make a crunch in the leaves! sootsage decided to break the perfect silence.
“so, uh, glimpsebark, what are we looking for?” sootsage said tentatively. she had been against going with the medicine cat, so that she could protect her and show her around the territory. but orders were orders and sootsage wasn’t one to refuse. brairstar had thought she would be the perfect candidate as a ‘welcome party’ and she had made a good point, too. sootsage was always happy. but for some reason, today, she wasn’t.
“huh?” the medicine cat whispered, glancing up from the plants, “oh — what are we looking for? mostly herbs, comfrey, poppy seeds, borage, chervil, fennel, berries — though some of those are really dangerous, under any circumstances, do not eat any berries without me looking over them. and yeah, do you have any bees here? honey works as a good medicine too.” after that, glimpsebark rambled on and on about having warrior know herbs, then they would be able to protect themselves against the poisonous ones. but sootsage didn’t really listen, she was paying attention to the wildlife and nature around her. it truly was a good day to be in the forest.
