LEADER'S TOURNAMENT!! This is a seven-day long event, where potential leaders will be pitted against each to determine who is best fit to lead. The events are meant to showcase one's endurance, strength, balance of duty, intelligence, ability to protect, ability to guide, and place among the community. The first six events will be elimination rounds, while the seventh will be a vote held by the clan. Contestants that have made it to the seventh day can step down if they find the other contestant is better suited to leading. Brambleshade will step down, and Lupinedance will ultimately come out on top. Where the other contestants fall will be determined by how the story writes itself, I guess.

Apprenticeships and training also get started up - the younger cats are tired of waiting in limbo and want to get to work before they waste away.

Chasing out disgruntled and frustrated cats not satisfied with the result. Next moon will be about the leader solidifying her place among her clanmates as well as deciding what traditions to take forward from all the different backgrounds her clanmates came from. Tribe names (only present in archive and within story) and year-long journeys will be a part of that.

Nightwhisper sat, Oakkit laying next to him, as he and Dustspot watched her kits and Featherstar's kits. Featherstar's kits mostly stayed in the den with their mother, but sometimes came outside. While her kits were out, Featherstar decided to relax and take a walk. A walk where? To her den, of course. Nightwhisper chuckled, and Oakkit's eyes gleamed with amusement. "I wouldn't want to raise five kits either," Nightwhisper whispered to Oakkit.
"Especially when Dustspot already has her five too. The nursery will be crowded!"
"Maybe you can help the warriors if they expand it, which I'm sure will happen soon enough." Oakkit looked at Nightwhisper, his eyes bright as he pounced onto the medicine cat. "Got you!" He said as he stood on Nightwhisper's side.
"Not for long!" Nightwhisper twisted carefully so Oakkit would slide off gently, and then let the little tom attack him again. Oakkit was going to be a good warrior for the clan, Nightwhisper was sure that the tom would be a good fighter. Maybe even the best. But then, something seemed off about the kit. A little twist that would happen. Nightwhisper continued playing with Oakkkit, trying to hopefully shake off the feeling.

"why would they choose me? i have terrible social skills! couldn't they have picked miles? or bug? they would know how to lead a clan. i don't. but those stupid star-cats said 'sorry pierce, but you have to leave your life as a rogue living free to a clan leader who has to take care of dozens of cats.' like, what?" sharpstar muttered. his paws fell heavily on the grassy floor beneath his, scaring off the prey hiding near by. sharpstar stopped suddenly, the grass underfoot having changed to rock. loking around, he noticed he had followed to mountains from the weird cave he woke up in. a medium sized tunnel opened up to his left, and he debated for a second before going in. it was dark for a few heartbeats before the cave opened up and the area lightened. a hole in the ceiling lit up the cave, and sharpstar looked around in shock. the cave was pretty large with a sloped ceiling, and was oval/hexagonal in shape. the cave had 4 openings in the walls, and a relatively smooth floor. "this could be a potential camp."

Swiftwind rolled on his back and laughed heartily when Toadkit leaped onto his chest. “Be careful!” Fognose squealed. Swiftwind wrapped his paws around his son and rolled over trapping Toadkit gently beneath him. “It’s alright!” the father called to his mate “I’m fine.” The queen flicked an ear. “It’s not you that I’m worried about.” She meowed firmly “They’re only three moons old!” Swiftwind chuckled and stood up, allowing his son to return from their play session. “That’s halfway to apprenticeship.” He pointed out, following behind Toadkit “They need to learn some skills.” Fognose giggled. “Because jumping on your father’s chest is a skill.” Swiftwind shrugged. “You never know.” Mintkit bounced up when Toadkit returned. “How come Toadkit was the only one that got a badger ride?” She meowed. Swiftwind leaned down to lick the kit’s ears. “Because you were asleep, my darling.” Mintkit huffed. “That’s not fair!” She wailed. “Don’t worry. We can go again later.” He promised. Toadkit and Mintkit let out squeals of delight. Though obviously Swiftwind adored all of his kits, Toadkit and Mintkit were the most outgoing of the bunch. Beankit and Snailkit enjoyed the comfort of the nursery with Fognose and the other queens, leaving Mintkit and Toadkit to bond more with their father. Squirrelheart lifted her head to look at her sister. Fognose was a good mother. Looking down at the three new lives that nestled at her belly, she sent up a prayer to StarClan that this time, her kits would survive.

Shrewclaw padded through the clearing. He dropped his catch at the fresh-kill pile, and was about to turn around when he felt something small thud at his heels. Raising an eyebrow, he looked over his shoulder. He blinked as he saw a small, fluffy blob, rolling over in the dirt behind him. The small kitten rubbed her nose and blinked up at the tom. Her wide eyes were soon squinted with a smile and she got up to her paws, waddling to the warrior’s front end. Shrewclaw felt his fur rise. Who’s kit was this? And why was she in the middle of the camp? Shrewclaw swallowed nervously. Then, recognition sparked in his mind. His heart sunk as guilt and stupidity overtook him. She must be one of Squirrelheart’s. He had congratulated his mother on her second litter, but never actually saw the kits. This little one must be his sister. He put on a kind smile and lowered his head to her level. “Hello, there.” He meowed gently “What’s your name.” The silver she-kit purred and rubbed against his cheek. “My name is Saskatoonkit.” She said sweetly “Fognose told me that you’re my brother. Right?” Shrewclaw nodded. He felt love bubble in his chest. “I am.” he confirmed “My name is Shrewclaw. It’s nice to meet you Saskatoonkit.” The silver she-kit bounced up and down, overjoyed to meet her big brother. “Where are the rest of your littermates?” He asked, looking over her head to look at the nursery. “Oh,” She meowed, her tail drooping “They’re asleep. Mama said it was nap time, but I wasn’t tired. I wanted to explore.” Panic set in at her words. He had to get her back. It was still rainy and chilly, and he wouldn’t let his sister get sick. “Alright.” He meowed “I understand, I was like that too, actually. But you know, we should really get you back. Don’t you want to be snuggled up close to Squirrelheart?” Saskatoonkit frowned. “Yea.” She sighed “Serpentkit and Shadowkit are bigger, though, and they take up most of the room.” She looked the warrior up and down. “You look comfortable!” She squeaked “Maybe I could snuggle up close to you!” Shrewclaw chuckled. “Maybe some other time. I have strong, brave, warrior things to do, though. Besides, I’m sure your mother wants you near her.” Saskatoonkit considered this, before eventually agreeing. Shrewclaw lifted his sister by the scruff and carried her quietly into the nursery, where each nest was filled with a napping cat. He nestled Saskatoonkit down by their mother, and turned to leave. The she-kit tapped his foot before he left, though. “It was nice meeting you, Shrewclaw.” She whispered “Can we play together later? I want Shadowkit and Serpentkit to meet you!” Shrewclaw gave her a warm smile. He was wrong about his new siblings. He adored Saskatoonkit, and he knew he always would. “Of course.” He purred quietly “Now, go to sleep.” His sister gave an excited smile and happily nestled next to her mother and sisters. Shrewclaw shook his head fondly and left the nursery, returning to his warrior duties.

Elmstar saw Ashtail returning from his patrol. She waved her deputy down with her tail, and beckoned for him to meet her in her den. The tom nodded, and bid farewell to his group before climbing into the tree. “What’s up?” Ashtail asked once they were settled in the nook. Elmstar flicked her tail. “I wanted your advice on something.” She admitted “See...well, Redfin and I have been growing closer lately, and I think he’s going to ask me to be his mate.” Ashtail grinned. “That’s great!” He purred. “Is it?” The leader challenged “I just became leader. I don’t want to make it seem like my priorities aren’t with my position.” The deputy sighed. “Look,” He meowed “Love is definitely in the air recently. You aren’t the only one that’s thinking of their future. We respect you, Elmstar. If you love Redfin, your role as leader shouldn’t hold you back.” The black she-cat wasn’t convinced. “But what about if we have kits?” She groaned “A queen can’t be a leader.” Ashtail rested his paw on hers. “Don’t worry about it. I’m your deputy for a reason. If you and Redfin are in love, go for it. Be happy. I will be here for you. I’ll help you look after the Clan while you’re in the nursery. No one will judge you. And if they do, they can take it up personally with me.” Elmstar let out a smile. She felt pressure lift from her chest. “Thank you.” She meowed quietly. She leaned forward and nuzzled her friend. “I guess I can partake in the kit boom.” She giggled. He shared her laughter. “Hawksnow’s due soon, isn’t she?” Ashtail took a deep breath and nodded with a smile. “Yea. I’m going to be a father.” The two friends stayed in her den for a while, talking about the future of their families and their Clan.

Nimbuscurl stretched in the sun, trying to absorb its heat. “Is it always cold out here?” He grumbled. Hickorywind flicked an ear at the new warrior. “No, not always. It’s just been very cloudy lately. It makes it seem colder than it actually is.” Nimbuscurl hummed. He and Hickorywind had become fast friends. It was the half-blind warrior that found him trotting along the border. Nimbuscurl licked his lips and yawned, observing the she-cats that were gathered at the opposite side of the clearing. “Okay, test time.” Hickorywind challenged “Who are they?” Nimbuscurl squinted. He had joined a few sunrises ago, but many cats had come to greet him. “Erm, let’s see. The calico one's Shellpond, she’s Sparkstorm’s mate. The brown tabby next to her is Nettlemist...Nightfur’s daughter?” Hickorywind nodded and Nimbuscurl continued. “Then the white one is Tulipclaw, she helps out around the nursery a lot, and then (his lips curled in a smile) there’s Hollypounce, the cat you’re crushing on.” Hickorywind blushed. “Okay, first of all, I’m not crushing on Hollypounce. We’ve both told each other that we love each other, but we aren’t mates. And second of all, you’re wrong. That’s Chestnutstripe.” Nimbuscurl lashed his tail. “Whatever. There are so many brown cats in this clan, it’s hard to tell them apart.” Hickorywind sighed. “You can pick out Hollypounce in any crowd. Her eyes are always glowing. Her fur shines in the moonlight, especially once she’s just groomed it. Her voice is the only thing softer than her fur, and she always speaks to you with a smile.” Nimbuscurl raised an eyebrow and chuckled. “Right.” He meowed “Not crushing on her.” The dark tom flicked his friend with his tail before getting to his paws, and going for a drink by the river.

“Take him!” Batfur cried. The warrior flung Tickkit through the air and the small tom landed on Redfin. Elmstar rushed forward, lunging at her father to rescue him from the burning flames swishing hungrily around him. The whole camp was on fire, but she was only focused on her father. Specifically, his eyes. He gave his daughter one last smile before disappearing into the flames.

Elmstar jolted awake, tears matting her cheeks. She heaved, crying out for Batfur. Redfin woke instantly. The tom was sleeping beside her, and he curled his tail around her. “Same nightmare?” He murmured, pressing his muzzle to her ear. The leader nodded, swallowing the fear that rose in her throat. “Maybe we should tell Bumbleflight.” Redfin suggested. Elmstar shook her head. “What is he going to do about it?” She sighed “It’s not like there’s an herb for nightmares.” She yawned and turned around, facing Redfin. “I’m alright.” She promised, pushing her head into his neck “You being here makes everything okay.” She felt a purr rumble in his throat. “Elmstar?” He meowed. She hummed, curling their tails together. “I-I’ve been meaning to tell you something for a while now.” Elmstar reciprocated his purr. “I love you.” He meowed firmly “And I can’t imagine me ever being happy without you in my life. Would you be my mate?” Elmstar nuzzled her companion. “Redfin, you don’t know how long I’ve been waiting for you to ask me that.” She admitted “I would be honored to be your mate.”

Elmstar wasn’t the only one having sleeping issues. Bumbleflight rolled over in his nest, kicking his hind paws and lashing his tail. Fire burned around him in his dreamworld. Crows screeched above his head and shadows danced wickedly beneath him. He slashed at the falling blazing branches, but it was no use. Soon enough, he was cornered by a wall of fire, with claws out to take him. Suddenly, everything stopped. The chaos was replaced with eerie dark silence. Out of the darkness, a voice called to him. “Evil hides in the shadows.” It warned “When the crow calls, beware of the fallen, for they will be your demise.”

Trying to save the older tom, Darkthunder got swept away into the river and was trapped under the ice. The patrol couldn't get Darkthunder out in time and the tom drowned. The patrol found Cherryheart further down the river, having drowned as well.

It was Laurelpaw that caught the scent of the fox, and all she could do was freeze at the scent, her eyes widening in terror. The rest of the patrol also stood right behind her, sunstone, Belladonnagaze, and Lightflicker both stood with their hackle’s slowly bristling in response. The peaceful times of the clan were coming to an end, death was looming on the horizon. The scent was stale, there was a good chance that it was either a vixen, dog fox or a family with kits. If it was a family set, the clan had no way to prepare to chase out an entire set of foxes without losing lives in the process.

Laurelpaw and Canarypaw were inexperienced and were more afraid than the front that the defenders were putting on, eyes widen, and bunched together, looking expectantly towards defenders, prepared to run in need be, to get more help. For now, they narrowly avoided the scent and would plan on this furthermore.

“So much for a simple patrol huh,” Sunstone spoke softly with Lightflicker flanking behind them, the calico shook their head and sighed. “I fear that times are going to from good to worse. Prepare your funeral faces. The easy-going times are going to come to an end now.” Lightflicker twitched her ear and looked at Sunstone who already subdued with the fact that death was coming to the clan, it was the part of life even if it did sting more so than one.

“You don’t know that; we are going to be fine. Nothing is going to happen to anyone of us. The scent is a few days old, after all, if we keep patrolling and keeping an eye out in case the mangy begotten turncoat does come after us, we are ready. More than ready.” The opportunistic Lightflicker putting up the positivity's sake for the trainees who were nimbly flanking after the defenders, eyes widen as if they just witnessed their first death, of which she hoped wouldn’t ever be the case.

“It’s springtime, and that means we are going to be seeing more of foxes, and whatever comes out of the woods into the moors,” Belladonnagaze said with her tail swishing behind her, the black and white bicolor narrowed her gaze towards where they found the scent. It would be easier for them to poison said fox, leaving prey out in the open for the stupid creature to find and consume. “I say we set a trap for the fox, poisoned prey.”

“You think that Crescentmoon would give us a paw in helping us murder a fox in cold blood?” Lightflicker looked between the grim-faced Sunstone and the already planning Belladonnagaze.

“I wouldn’t be surprised if they help us with this, after all, they are an oracle. They are supposed to assist in any measures of protecting the clan and serving it to benefit the clan wellbeing. Beachcomb joined us last moon, and we have young kits now.” Sunstone spoke with their tail lashing back and forth.

Canarypaw and Laurelpaw could only stare and listen to the defender’s wage war on a fox that was in passing from a few days ago. “Before we decide on murdering a fox, we should let Alpinestar in on this,” Lightflicker said stamping her paw down, looking both at Sunstone and Belladonnagaze equally. “Right?”

Laurelpaw could only shuffle on her paws, what could she say in this situation, her father never taught her to be brave in the face of death. Only to strive onwards and remain has perfect, failure was not an option. Canarypaw was shivering beside her, and it was getting to the point that neither of the trainees was going to be prepared to learn how to do this.

After all one would have to kill something large enough to fill a fox, and then run like all hell out of the way, before becoming lunch for one desperate fox.

“Come on before we give the two more nightmares of foxes tearing the camp apart. We should let Alpinestar in on this after all his choice is how we are going to proceed on this.” Sunstone said moving onwards, pushing past both Lightflicker and Belladonnagaze.
Belladonnagaze could only wordlessly trail after the calico, with the remaining three trailing after them.

To say that Alpinestar was not pleased by the news of a fox been scented previously was an understatement. Turns out that the leader of the cove, was all for poisoning the fox before more problems arose. Someone else had joined the clan while the patrol was out, and this was the most perfect time for a said cat to prove himself to the clan as a worthy member as a lack of the better word, fox killer.

Crescentmoon would switch from gathering injury herbs, to find poisonous herbs. A chill ran down their spine, but they knew exactly what to look for. Mandrake to make the fox unbelievably thirsty but it was still as poisonous, if not worse than water hemlock. Without another word the oracle went into the swamps, keeping a trained eye for exactly they were looking for, the plant grew in abundance.

Screams, shouts, loud snarling, and sharp barks were the only thing that bothered Bishopkit, the young kit woke again from another unrestful nap, his heart hammering out a full speed, his entire body aching as if he was running away from the jaws of a fox. Swallowing deep breaths, and his fur was damp with sweat and unease.

Kissingkit was the first to notice that Bishopkit was awake, and walked over to him. Her sunset-colored eyes were concerned for the apparent unease her brother was displaying. The white kit barely noticed that Kissingkit was licking between his ears, has he slowly started purring from the apparent comfort that was been displayed towards him.

Lovekit was the next one to appear, apparently tugging on a larger than herself moss ball, her tiny tail lashing with her efforts. At least she was trying to move the ball towards her siblings for a very competitive sport of moss ball, a very serious sport amongst kits. If only she was a little bit bigger, she could carry this moss ball with no problem, growling to herself.

“Help me move this moss ball!” Lovekit squeaked stamping her paw down and just been at the most part frustrated with the ball if she couldn’t move it by herself. She could enlist the help of her siblings! Kissingkit could only purr with humor alit in her gaze, as she rose onto her paws, to assist her sister in her task.

Bishopkit could only watch, finding the situation humorous if not interesting to watch, with Lovekit’s own grumbles, and Kissingkit’s soothing words, the moss ball was eventually pushed closer towards Iolanthepetal, the nurturer who watched on with the deepest amount of adoring humor.

For now, Bishopkit will keep quiet about his nightmares, times like these couldn’t be spoiled by the dreams of one cat. His siblings deserved that much.

Sunstone had a small shadow, one that was doing a very good attempt of not been noticed, but it wasn’t that hard to notice a kit following an adult cat here and there. The defender found themselves chuckling softly, at how Crèmekit was echoing their every paw step, his single eye gleaming with adoration. It was cute, and the kit was pretty much mature for his age, unlike the rest of his siblings that were acting has normal kits were.

Crèmekit wasn’t interested in that, bypassing all of the other trainees in the clan, and went straight for the defenders. Following them as much as he was allowed, pestering them with questions if need be. The calico was humored by this kid and nodded to everything that he had to say.

“Okay kid,” they spoke nodding for the hundredth time this afternoon, Crèmekit bouncing on his paw tips at this point, looking eager to be noticed. “So, you want me to be your mentor?” they said echoing the previous conversation from moons prior, still taken aback by what this kit had said.

Crèmekit nodding vigorously. Well, he was mature sure, but nothing could surpass a kit’s excitement no matter how hard he tried to stifle it. “Yes!” he squeaked

“Have you told anyone else aside from myself that you want me to be your mentor?” Sunstone asked now sitting down licking a patch on their fur.

“no, I want it to be a surprise.”

“I would suggest telling Alpinestar, so he’s in on the surprise.” Sunstone advised.
