A brown calico steps into the camp, before promptly cleaning her pawpads on the foliage, she clearly had been wandering through the wilderness for a while, though her unamused eyes and twitchy tail showed she wasn't impressed with the view. Perhaps that wasn't the first time she had seen a cat colony.
As soon as she crossed the threshold of the gateway, marked by the gleaming path of mica, some of the inhabitants raised their tails while others cautiously approached the intruder. Meteorfall had always been clear about their open doors policy, however it was unusual for an outsider to simply waltz into the camp like they were part of the clan.
Cromwell's weary eyes caught a glimpse of the usual scenery at the Lightwalkers' base. Although the territory was surrounded by tall grass the camp was clear of any weeds, likely trimmed by the cats themselves, with some large and smooth rocks serving as basking spots, shards of mica and bird feathers were arranged everywhere. And of course, the most notorious landmark, an enormous tree with thick wavy branches and smelly spiky fruits, in fact the whole place carried the stench of those weird fruits.
The cat's muzzle frowned in a disgusted expression, before shaking her front leg trying to get rid of some mica stuck on her paw pad "What's the matter with those shards scattered on the ground? Is this a cat's den or a crow's nest?" The cat's around her were shocked by the comment, some gasps could be heard amongst the crowd, slowly getting closer to the stranger.

"Good afternoon, may I help you?"

"Help me?" The calico cackled "I've been alone in the wilderness for moons to find... This!"

"Moons? Oh wow, do you need any food, water, rest?"

"Not at all! I am, in fact, fasting to repent my mistakes and regrets

"Whispering Ones? Ancestors?" Meteorfall tilted their head "We are the first generation of cats to ever inhabit this land, we don't have such a thing."

"That ought to be the reason you live like wild animals! Us domesticated cats are so much better than that!"

"I beg your pardon, enlighten me if you wish. I'd love to integrate your worldview in our colony, as I believe that's a great opportunity to expand our wisdom."

Without taking her eyes out of the strange feline, Nebula leaned towards her brother and whispered "Are they being sarcastic?" "I don't know"

"You're free to go, Neb." The tortie point mewed as xe flopped on the rocks, belly up, waiting for xyr novice to leave. But instead, Nebula stayed completely still, with a bitter look in her face "If I had anywhere to go...", growled.
"Huh?" Copper raised xyr eyes, that resentful tone was uncommon for the usually confident and headstrong Nebula, one who became visibly irritated by her mentor's confusion. The smaller cat huffed and laid down besides the tortie point, the tip of her tail angrily wagging "I have no friends, Copperbreeze. I mean, I do, but they don't have time for me, so I guess they aren't really my friends."
"Preeeetty sure that's not how it works." Copperbreeze sighed with a faint smile on xyr muzzle, wondering how such a silly thing could bother xyr novice so much, xe also wondered if that emotional sensitivity was a product of bad mentorship. Regardless, the best thing xe could do would be to offer some mentor-ly reassurance "Don't worry, as soon as Mercury finishes whatever he's doing right now, he'll go back to you like the little glue he is." But xyr gaze met a still upset tabby rolling her eyes "Mercury is suuuuch a try hard. He's still training even though he's sick and should be resting!" the tortie sighed, Nebula was really upset, wasn't she? Xe didn't know how to deal with that in an empathetic and wise manner, xe was no Meteorfall after all, so xe opted to a more lighthearted approach "A perfect fit for Gleamingonyx, for sure!" Copper giggled reminiscing of xyr constant teasing of Gleamingonyx, Nebula finally let a giggle scape her muzzle as well.
Nebula's stripes had an unusual silver gleam when reflected by the sunlight, contrasting with Copperbreeze's rusty tortoiseshell fur basking in the sun close to her. The novice was far from being touchy feely, preferring to stay at a close distance without physical interaction, they had grown close and at that point Copper was familiar with her mannerisms and preferences. At first the tortie felt bitter for being assigned the mentor of the unruly kit while Onyx got the seemingly prodigy, although xe would never outrightly say this to the little tabby, as her training advanced Copper changed xyr mind and thought fondly of Nebula, the now obvious better twin.
"Hey Neb, what about your other sibling?" As soon as her name was called the tabby raised their head "I'm actually not talking to Granite right now. We fought." she growled, Copper was a little surprised, Granite and Nebula always seemed to get along "How come?" The tabby frowned, ears going flat "They've been so feisty lately! I think it's because they're lonely but that's no reason to act like an unruly hog!" Copper giggled again, that insult was learnt from xem "Littermate stuff, I guess." and rested xyr head on the ground again, letting xyr body relax at once.
Nebula wanted to hiss, she had the impression that Copper wasn't taking her issues seriously, and of course xe wouldn't, Copper wasn't a particularly empathetic cat, xyr main method of dealing with bad feelings was to brush them away. But instead of hissing the radiant teasingly mewed "Don't you have anything better to do?" Copper stayed in place, unbothered "Not really, Onyx is busy." "So is Onyx your only friend? I've never seen you hang out with anyone else..." "Hey! My social life is none of your business, you little rascal!" Copper shouted,

✫prunedrop is overjoyed to be a new father once again, and surprisingly to just about everyone his first-born nectarinesplash takes to having a younger sister incredibly well, becoming quite close to the little molly. if anyone asks, she simply states that without her mother around, the young molly deserved to have a good female rolemodel in her life; aka, herself.

✫meraxis and her teleri spritepaw are out practicing young spritepaw's stalking prey skills, which leads them right past a large cave mouth in the side of the rocky mountain that smells quite strongly of something odd. meraxis makes spritepaw wait at the entrance, and then sneaks down slowly until the tunnel opens up into a massive sprawling cavern that is glittering with all sorts of natural gemstones and gold pieces; sitting atop the pile of sparkly things is a small dragon. clearly it isn't fully grown as its really only the size of a young moose, and with the smaller amount of treasure piled up, it hasn't been living in their territory for very long. a cruel smile appears on her face as a plan begins to form. she'll give the clan one more moon to process the deaths of the stampede before putting it into action though...

✫claypaw and coilpaw quickly befriending the other new teleri, windpaw, who is much more shy and insecure than they are. coilpaw is the most outgoing one, whereas claypaw is the calming influence, and windpaw begins to open up to the other two teleri quite quickly; they become known as a trio of troublemakers, thanks to coilpaw's schemes. coilpaw spends a decent amount of time in the nursery with the avari, explaining to the vanyar's that she had a younger sibling who she was very close to before they passed away.

✫gus is a former kittypet of sorts, being cared for by an elderly two-leg for many years, and bouncing between living in the outdoors and living within her home. gus is a afab-trans-tom who chooses to keep his name gus, as his now late two-leg called him her "grumpy gus."

XXXA few days after Orestar visited the Moonstone, she was heading back to her den when a breeze carried a scent to her nose. She pause. This was a stranger on her territory, momentarily forgetting about her request, the leader marched towards the scent with bristling fur. She aimed to protect her territory. What if the cat wanted her canaries for dinner!
XXXOrestar moved swiftly through the prairie grasses until they parted at the Howling Path. She stepped out, making sure that the beast that travels this path wasn't coming, and looked around. A cat walked the path, though he had paused as she walked out, they stared at each other for a moment. Orestar felt her bristling fur die down but just slightly. "Who trespasses on Canaryclan territory?"
XXXThe other cat lifts his head, eyes gleaming. "A friend, you say this is a clan? The starry cats told me of you."
XXXThe pair met each other's gaze. Words were exchanged, Talon needed a home and Orestar realized that Starclan had sent him to her. Her protective instinct almost cost her a new friend and a valuable member for Canaryclan.
XXXThat same instinct was tested again a few days after. Orestar, busy marking the borders, heard the soft cries of a cat. He sounded young and awfully sad. Honestly, it tugged at the leader's heartstrings. It wasn't long until she spotted the owner of the sadness. A pitch black void-shape amidst the bright golden prarie grasses huddled by himself. Orestar slowly approached with a mixture of compassion yet caution. "Hello there," she spoke gently yet the little cat still flinched when looking up.
XXXCoal, he had introduced himself as, was the sole survivor of a dog attack. He'd witnessed it but hid, too afraid to do anything to help. Orestar, torn by his story, immediately offered him a spot in the clan. She brought him back, introduced him to Talonfall, and proclaimed him to be his mentor. A deputy needs to have an apprentice to be the deputy anyway.

--A look into the life of Swiftpaw, a loner abandoned by their family despite their young age. They are alone for a harsh moon, hardening into a tough little cat who refuses to give up. In a harsh world, they learned that they have to be harsher and make the first move. They call themselves Swift, self-named for their moral in life to strike first, act first, and be the best first rather than sitting around waiting for their life to have meaning or make sense. When they attack Silverstar, they never dreamed that they would be entering the life of a clan with over a hundred other cats - yet, this young cat is not going to let themself fail. They are strong. They are determined. They are fearless.
--Life doesn't make much sense anymore - not to the nameless cat who catches glimpses of his past through a haze. There are a lot of good memories to be had, and he goes about his life with a smile. "What's your name?" He hears a youngster ask. With a serene smile, he knows it must be one of his grandkits. "Silly kit," he answers in a rumbling purr. "Lion - your father is Tiger, my son. Aren't you Tiger?" Lion turns to Lakefeather, who winces as he turns with a pleading look towards the rest of the elders. "Look after him, won't you?" The young scout asks softly, another wave of sympathy washing over the tom as he watches Lion hum to himself and make a nest for his 'grandkit;' Hedgehogpaw gives Lion a flick of his tail, not wanting to tell the elder that he isn't his grandkit at all. In a better part of Lion's day, a more coherent part, he accepts joining the ranks of ChaosClan's elders with the name Lionrumble, his deep and roaring purr already a favorite for the young apprentices and kits, who seem to be magnetized towards the tom for his knack of stories... none of them seem to mind being confused for his grandkits either.
--Lunawish takes one look at Goldfishglow's fear and suddenly a rush of protection, of determination to do what's right, washes over her. When Silverstar and Foxstar are ready to create a plan to drive out the fox, Lunawish stands and offers her own suggestion, earning her an admiring glance from Goldfishglow. While the she-cat is normally passive and wants others to take the lead, she feels the need to follow her suggestion through. Somehow, she can't help but feel proud at Goldfishglow's praise for her plan, her heart feeling elated.

tumblekit is doing so well!!! he can now go from his nest to the clearing without wobbling! of course, a lot more work is needed but pumpkinseed is proud and even flamingowing notices. he's like "wait, why are you walking normal you're not supposed to do that." tumblekit is super proud of himself not only BCS his dad just noticed him for the first time in a month (he's been spending all of his time with his new boyfriend lionflash) but because he's actually accomplishing something, which he never thought he would. and when he and his siblings are apprenticed, he is able to confidently walk up to lichenbite without a single wobble. and he is growing into a very strong young man.

wolverinestar is literally about to burst. but she doesn't have a deputy so she ofc cannot rest. hailthroat is like. please. my darling i beg of you (they r literally laszlo and nadja idc) please slow down. but she's like absolutely not i have stuff to do. and as soon as she steps outside for a debrief of the morning patrols, she goes into labor. hailthroat freaks out and so does juncostalk who is like????? what do i do???? cricketfur, who is astounded by the tom's inability to do anything, escorts her leader to pumpkinseed and gets her water-soaked moss. juncostalk and hailthroat go outside and get some sticks and more moss. once they're all settled, pumpkinseed grabs daisypaw and they get to work. juncostalk is just standing there until cricketfur yanks him out of the den. "but i wanna see" juncostalk protests. "you'll just have to wait until you have your own kits. let them have their moment." they both kinda look at each other and blush. cricketfur thinks about having kits with him. juncostalk thinks about having kits with her. but they don't say anything and just walk back out to the main cave to announce that firclan will have heirs in a few hours.

as the new generation is born, the camp goes to sleep with warmth and excitement about the future in their hearts. everyone has sweet dreams. except for vultureclaw. he is sweating and restless, sitting in a dark space and voices of hatred surround him. they degrade him, telling him that he's worthless and a horrible pawn for the spirits. he pleads with them that he didn't know the birth of wolverinestar's kits would happen so soon. they scold him, calling him an idiot for not keeping track of the time. because of his negligence, they aren't able to stop the birth of the heirs that will threaten his rise to power. bcs now he has to get rid of all the kits in order to have the chance to succeed to leader. he cries. they tell him to shut up, they have an idea. they turn around and discuss for a little bit. when they come back, they tell him to go into the woods and consume a herb. it will be the only herb growing out of a cracked boulder. eat it all and then go back to camp and wait. when he asks what it will do, the spirits smirk and reveal their pointed, jagged, wet teeth and tell him that it will help him and he won't have to worry about his rise to power anymore. they shove him back into the waking world. he jerks awake and his nest is soaked with sweat. he does not fall back asleep. instead, he leaves the den and wanders out into the woods to find the herb.

“ “Look at you two, my darlings,” Dappleleaf’s blue eyes shone as she gaze at her daughters. “So grown up but it was just yesterday you two were kits in the nursery.” The calico reached forward to lap fondly at Moonpaw’s cheek, a soft look of amusement in her expression as she watched Echopaw duck away before it was her turn. Echopaw knew full well she would have been next had she not moved. “We’re too old for that, mother, I’ve told you,” She complained crossly. “I think not. No kit is ever too old for their mother’s love,” Dappleleaf replied, a teasing note in her voice. Echopaw simply rolled her eyes, “You don’t even know we’ll pass our assessments.” The black and white molly pointed out, glancing across the cave where the rest of her denmates waited, having similar conversations with their own parents. There was a note of sorrow among them, knowing that Reedpaw and Minnowpaw would never be able to join them. Their sorrow ran alongside the excitement thrumming as if it was a tangible item that could be held. “You’ll do wonderfully,” Dappleleaf replied, her mew shifting Echopaw’s attention back to her. “Your father would be proud,” The apprentice’s ears seemed to prick, both of them exchanging a surprised glance. Dappleleaf so rarely brought him up, a fact that never failed to make Moonpaw glum and Dapplepaw furious that the tom seemingly wanted nothing to do with them. Moonpaw’s lavender-blue eyes were uncertain but curious as she mewed softly, “Our father?” Echopaw didn’t wait for Dappleleaf’s response, fixing her with an intense stare. “He would? He’s never even bothered to meet us. You hardly even talk about him!” Echopaw said, a frustrated note in her tone. An emotional expression clouded Dappleleaf’s eyes and she looked at the kits, distraught. “Oh my darlings, I know it’s hard but your father- he-...” She trailed off, eyes narrowing as a gray and white tom hurried over. “Hello Cloudpool,” The calico molly took a deep, steadying breath as her daughters turned to face Cloudpool, Echopaw’s annoyance at the interruption obvious through her tail flicking back and forth. “Hi!” Cloudpool greeted, his eyes bright as he looked over the three. “Are you two ready for your assessments? Try not to be too nervous, you’ll do great.” He told them warmly. “They’re ready, they’ve had excellent training.” Chiveclaw’s cool voice greeted as he and Duskheart approached, ready to collect their apprentices. “Of course, you two have been great mentors. I couldn’t thank you enough.” Dappleleaf was polite, and friendly but Chiveclaw’s pale green eyes studied Echopaw while Duskheart blinked brightly at Moonpaw, his own gaze lit with avid excitement. “Alright my darlings, good luck. Even if you don’t pass, I’m so proud of you both.” Dappleleaf murmured adoringly, watching the small group head off. Cloudpool watched them go for a moment, before his gaze flicked fondly to the calico molly next to him. “Would you like to go herb hunting with me? I’ve missed you and I’m short a paw, with Mosspaw needing to rest.” Dappleleaf hesitated, uncertainty in her eyes. “We shouldn’t, it’s too dangerous, with the kits. Too many eyes in camp, and everyone knows we’re close friends, but I don’t want any questions. Poppypounce and Willowtail are up to their normal mischief.” Disappointment weighed heavily in the medicine cat’s paws but he nodded. Dappleleaf was right, their relationship had always been dangerous, but it was even more so with the kits to think about. When the kits had been born, the pair had decided to keep a small distance from each other, for their sake, but even so, he’d hoped it wouldn’t be for much longer. “I can talk to Poppypounce and Willowtail if you’d like,” He said after a moment. It wouldn’t do for the pair to go poking around Dappleleaf’s love life. Cloudpool still remembered his alarm when, as a tiny kit, Poppypounce had asked him and Dappleleaf if they’d been together. It had been before Poppypounce had learned medicine cats like him couldn’t have mates and he wasn’t even sure Poppypounce could remember asking about it. Dappleleaf shook her head, mewing, “No, no, I can handle their matchmaking attempts. I’ll talk with them. I’m sorry, Cloudpool, I’ve got to go, Sunstripe will be assigning the rest of our patrols soon.” She bounded swiftly towards the ginger tom, leaving Cloudpool watching after her sadly. She fell into place between Tigerjaws and Lilystem, the latter of whom glanced back at the medicine cat with narrowed eyes before focusing back on the deputy.

“I am a little nervous,” Moonpaw admitted softly, as Chiveclaw and Duskheart began leading them off towards the camp entrance. “I know you all keep saying we’re ready, but what if I fail? I’ll be happy for you, of course,” She paused, with a glance at her sister before continuing. “I don’t want to be the only one to fail if I’m not ready.” Duskheart shook his head firmly and mewed, “The worst that will happen is you’ll take your assessment next moon and no cat will think less of you for it. It’s okay to be nervous, but I’m confident that no matter what happens, you’ll get your warrior name in no time.” Echopaw nosed her sister’s cheek affectionately, adding, “If you fail, I’ll wait to get my warrior name until I can do it with you.” Moonpaw gasped, shaking her head but Echopaw interjected, her voice firm, “It’s okay Moonpaw, really. I know you’d do the same for me.” Lowering her voice, she whispered mischievously into her sister's ear, “Besides, it’ll be too chaotic getting our names at the same time as Shimmerpelt’s grandkits. Imagine how obnoxious that’ll be, all the attention will be on them.” She glanced over at the family milling together, making a face as she watched Mistypaw and Cranepaw squabbling. Moonpaw hesitated slightly, but Echopaw’s expression was so earnest that she nodded. “Alright, Echopaw. You’re the best sister I could’ve had.” The sisters shared a fond expression until Chiveclaw’s impatient hiss had them scrambling to catch up to their mentors, ready for their warrior assessments.

“Patrols have not been easy lately,” Silvernose remarked, making a face as she eyed the injury where her fur had gotten snagged during a patrol the previous moon. The red tabby beside her shook her head with a small noise of exasperation. “You’re telling me,” Rowanfur sighed, “Moons ago, I could hardly imagine the aches and pains I’ve been getting now, and how exhausting patrols have gotten.” Silvernose’s expression was sympathetic as Rowanfur continued, “I know you’re injured, but I think you’ve been lucky to be able to stay here in camp. Especially with the new kits.” “It is nice,” Silvernose replied, her eyes warm. “Thymepool and Sunstripe’s kits are so precious. Just think of how much time you’ll be able to spend with them now that you’re joining the elders!” Rowanfur purred, leaf-green eyes bright before something dimmed in her eyes. “I never thought I’d have to move to the elder’s den.” She admitted softly, “I guess I just thought I’d be able to share my nest with Morningstar until the time I joined Starclan.” The silver tabby was quiet for a moment as Silvernose contemplated her closest friend’s sadness. “I’m so sorry Rowanfur,” was all Silvernose managed to say, pressing closer to the red tabby. “Grey and Rippleshade are excited though, and it will be good to spend more time with the kits. It’s just not how I thought things would turn out.” Rowanfur murmured. “Starclan knows, it’s hard, especially when the future we dreamed of is taken from right under our paws. We’re all here for you, Rowanfur, even if it’s just to listen.” Silvernose ran her tail soothingly over Rowanfur’s back . The mollies were silent for a moment, sharing a moment of grief before Rowanfur roused herself, elegantly getting to her paws and blinking at Silvernose, “Thank you my friend. I’m not sure what I would’ve done these past moons if I didn’t have you and our clanmates. I think I’d like to join Thymepool and our grandkits in the nursery now if you’d like to join me?” “That would be lovely,” Silvernose answered gently. “Perhaps we can bring her a mouse,” Silvernose suggested as they left the medicine den. Rowanfur nodded, glancing out towards the leader’s den for a moment. It hurt, having to move on without him with only a select few who truly understood her grief, but Morningstar would not want her to grieve forever. He’d want her to try, to live her life as happy as she could. The grief would always be there, Rowanfur thought, but she would try to push through it, focusing on the here and now. Her beloved may be in Starclan but Morningstar wasn’t gone, he lived on through their children, and now their grandkits who would need someone to tell them of their grandfather. With Silvernose carrying the mouse, Rowanfur felt her mood lighten as they slipped into the nursery and her eyes lit fondly on Thymepool and Sunstripe’s three kits wrestling playfully. Her life now was far different from what she’d hoped for, but that was okay. These three kits were proof of that.
