summer -- currently, it's summer! the tribe cats will continue to be lucky in hunting, patrolling and nursery-related tasks. however, the sun will cause the tribe cat's exhaustion to go up faster so it'd be a good idea to be careful how often a cat goes on a patrol. rogue groups and predators are more likely to come onto your territory and attack your tribe, which also makes it harder to find new cats.

Treasureteller flicked his tail softly as he looked between Stormshaker and Wavecrash. He tilted his head, then nodded "Alright, Stormshaker, you will be going to the mainland this moon. Wavecrash, I'm sorry but she caught more fish this last patrol, so I'm going to be sending her."

Wavecrash's shoulders drooped, but she smiled at the caliby "Bring back something shiny!" she chirped. Stormshaker smiled "Would I bring anything dull?"

As Treasureteller dismissed the tribe, Sandflame padded towards Treasureteller, a small white cat at her side. The mute female nodded her head to the cat, then to Treasureteller. The leader smiled down at the younger feline and said "Hello, I am Treasureteller, what's your name?"

"S-snowcloud" the tom stammered. Treasureteller nodded "Are you here to join our tribe?"

Snowcloud nodded. Treasureteller smiled, and flicked his tail. "Wavecrash, come her please."

The leggy brown she-cat pricked her ears and bounded over. "Yes Treasureteller?" Treasureteller smiled "This is Paws in Fresh Snow," he paused, glancing at the tom to make sure he was alright with the name change. Snowpaw beamed at him, showing off sharp white fangs. "He'll be your seer."

Wavecrash's tail curled upwards "Really?" she gasped. Treasureteller nodded, and Wavecrash began to purr. "Come on then, I'll take you out right now, and we can teach you how to hunt!"

it was serene. the warm winds came from the south, like they did every year. there w
ere new younglings, little things seeming no more than bundles of fur either dozing, c
urled against their mother’s sides, or frolicking around their paws. and fresh to-be’s l
ooking harried, exhausted from training, or, more often than not, immensely confuse
d. the newly-made warriors nodding to their fellow former to-be’s they trained toget
her with and the senior warriors rolling their eyes. everything they stood for was ther
e—camaraderie, loyalty. peace. until it all descended into chaos - what they’d all ass
umed in their final moments was a wildfire brought upon them by nature was really a
t the paws of one of their own who loathed everything they stood for. the destruction
on was widespread and devastating, and all but one was lost to the fiery inferno that
had taken over their home. stumbling and coughing from the wreckage of the camp s
he had grown up in, the young molly—one of those very same newly-made warriors w
as forced to flee from all that she had ever known to survive. when she returned, she
was the only survivor of the fire. but her paws were guided by her ancestors, and her
very clanmates—with the wisdom and guidance of the tribe of endless hunting, she be
gan her tribe anew, taking the place as they had foretold, as the next night-teller.

the tribe of endless night resides in the verkhoyansk mountains, in a cave behind a w
aterfall. the cave—as wide as the waterfall that protects them from the outside—bur
rows under the mountain, with narrow passages that lead off on either side. one pas
sage leads to the cave of night stones, and the other leads to the nursery, where mot
hers and their younglings reside. the cave of night stones is where the teller of the n
ight stones, or night-teller, communes with the ancestors for wisdom and guidance,
and it is also where they sleep. the other members of the tribe sleep in idents on ei
ther side of the cave floor padded with eagle or heron feathers. the tribe of endless
night have no clear boundaries, but their territory encompasses much of the verkho
yansk mountains—including the twin meadows, cold-paw river, and burnt forest. bu
rnt forest and the twin meadows have begun to recover after the wildfire that dest
royed them, with evidence of returning blooming flora and scampering fauna.

The Tribe of the Trees' Shadows lives in the pine barrens. Threats to the cats are mainly raccoons and foxes. Deer and humans pose lesser threats - they're sometimes dangerous, sometimes safe. Prey consists of lizards, salamanders, fish, and small mammals. They'll also eat injured birds, and scavenge from humans in times of scarcity. The most common colors are black, brown tabbies, gray, and gray tabbies. Red, cream, and tortie/torbie cats of all shades appear uncommonly. Silver tabbies are also uncommon, and considered highly attractive. Tabby patterns are mostly spotted and mackerel. Chocolate and cinnamon are rare. Colorpoints, mink points, and sepia points are also rare. Longhairs and shorthairs are equally common.

Leading the Tribe is the Speaker for the Ancestors. They're a religious leader in addition to managing the day-to-day happenings of the Tribe. The Speaker has a to-be of their own, the Listener, chosen in kithood, who will take over after the Speaker dies. The Speaker will go by the name Speaker, regardless of their original name, while the Listener will keep their original name until promotion. The Healer is in charge of the health of the Clan. They use herbs to treat the sick, and also work to prevent illness and injury to their Tribemates. Cats who are pregnant or nursing kits don't have a special title, but cats who choose to live in the nursery permanently are called nursery assistants. Their role is to assist in births and to watch over kits when their parents need to get some fresh air. All other adult cats fit into one of two roles: prey-hunter or forest-guard. These roles are chosen for them in late kithood, though they do have some say in which role they're assigned. Prey-hunters learn how to stalk, fish, and scavenge. Forest-guards learn how to fight predators and other cats.

When a cat from the Tribe dies, their spirit leaves to the twilight territories. It's a paradise, where all their needs and wants are met. But their role isn't to lounge around forever. They must also watch over the living, and offer them guidance via the Speaker. It's considered taboo to speak any ill of the dead, and a great way to invite bad luck to the Tribe.

In general, the Tribe is reclusive. They avoid interaction with other cats unless absolutely necessary - whether for positive reasons or negative reasons. They value stealth above all other skills, and use that to enter human towns without being noticed by the dreaded humans.

The Tribe of the Nameless

''Will she be okay?'' A large pale figure draped themselves over the mountaintops, tail curling around the highest peak. They had been patiently watching their own kind come and go - a thousand deaths and lifetimes under their scrutiny. ''I've seen many paths laid out for her, each worse than the next.'' They sighed, their breath an icy-wind that cut across the dry and frosty grass. ''She's young, a mere kit to many of the other leaders I've known.'' They dared not to hope, not when the future was laid bare before their suffering eyes. ''Asros? Answer me.'' They commanded, their silvery-eyes darkening. ''You have either cursed or blessed this poor creature, and I will be the one held to blame.'' That was the sad tragedy of life and death - Life, with its many misfortunes, was as precious as gold while death, with its one tragedy, was treated as the great evil that haunted every living being. Time and time again, the world tried to rid itself of death but death always trailed behind, a grinning skull that always got the last laugh.

Little did those silly mortals know.

An equally large figure, coiled among the flush of wildflowers that had sprung from stone, smiled in turn. ''She will be, she has to be.'' They sighed, lifting a golden-claw and dragging it through the earth, a weaving and winding carving - Gradually, a tapestry was formed in the side of the mountain, the face of leaders past embellished in granite. ''Trust me, Saies, I did not put her in this world just to see her suffer.'' Oh, no...life was not cruel, but it was honest - It was both the medicine and the malady. ''What is life without pain?'' He replied. ''No more than death.'' Pain gave reason to fight, heartache gave reason to love and war gave reason for peace. Life was not for staying at a standstill, but for change, no matter how painful, how terrifying. ''She will survive.''

Unaware of the two great beings, Thunderteller stared at the lake and wondered what strange twist of fate had brought her here. She knew the stories - Every cat in the area did, although not always told the same way, and Thunderteller had scarcely believed they were anything more than just that, stories, relics of what once had been. Some cats mourned, some raged and others simply moved on - Others like Thunderteller. Although, Thunderteller could not doubt that the tribe of the Nameless had stirred something inside of her, a sense of aching loss, the way that a missing limb would feel. The lake had no answers to give her, shimmering in the sunlight, soaking the stones at her paws, and eventually the pale she-cat went away, disappearing into the undergrowth as the thorns snagged at her whiskers and her paws; Shaking her head, Thunderteller lay down among the roots of a great, vast tree and stared up at the sky. It stretched for miles above her and Thunderteller couldn't help but smile slightly, tail twitching cheerfully.

The meeting with the Nameless Ones had been something and the pale tabby was looking forward to the future.

Black Crystal walked through the cave, pausing to rest her aching paws in the warm water running through the shallow that cut the center of her cave home. Soon, though, she knew that she would have to brave the outside to patrol and find food and cats. She took a deep breath before heading out of the cave into the white wasteland she called home.

Lichen shivered with anticipation. It had been a grueling moon, with Stone and Sky pushing her to her limits. She had been tested on everything from sparring to stalking to strategy to stealth, often with very few pauses between trials. She'd also been tested on how far she could keep going with little food or water, how well she knew the territory and how well she knew the laws. She was certain that her brother Owl's trials had been just as difficult, judging by the sheer size of prey he'd been bringing in during the moon and how they'd practiced and practiced recalling landmarks and laws. But she'd passed and he'd passed and they were being taken to the Sky Peak, the highest and coldest point in the territory, in order to be recognized by their ancestors.

"What's it like?" Lichen asked Autumn, who padded along just in front of her. They were winding their way up the mountain along a precarious passage that made Lichen's heart stop when she thought about the fall.

"What?!" shouted back Autumn.

"What's Peak like??" Lichen yelled, hoping that her voice would carry over the wind that had just started. By the stars, she hoped it wouldn't begin snowing.

"WONDERFUL!"

Thanks, Lichen thought sarcastically. Very helpful. Well, nothing to do but continue.

After what seemed like an eternity in silence--Frostteller and Autumn led the procession, Lichen and Owl were in the middle, and their guardians brought up the rear--Lichen finally stumbled onto the peak. It was broader than she'd thought possible, with a pair of stones reaching towards the sky. If she squinted, she could almost mistake them for a pair of cats clawing at the moon. She'd grant that it was a magnificent sight.

Frostteller turned his yellow eyes to the group and looked at them in a way that deeply unsettled Lichen. It was as though he saw into her very soul. "You were brought into the tribe as to-bes. You came onto this mountain as graduates. You will leave this mountain as adults. I proclaim these words beneath the gaze of our ancestors. Stone, Light, have you any objections?" As he named the guardians, Lichen saw them shake their heads solemnly. "Then we are in agreement. Lichen that Crawls Up Tree, come here."

Lichen approached Frostteller, fur bushy from fear and cold.

"You have performed excellently in your trials. I was told that you never complained, did everything that was asked of you and more than even that." Silence for a few tense moments. "I welcome you to the tribe as our newest guard. Serve your tribemates well."

Lichen took his words as permission to back away and looked at Owl excitedly. A guard, she screamed silently, begging him to understand. I've done it!

"Owl that Glides Silently." Owl approached Frostteller like Lichen had. "You too performed excellently, with an eagerness that I hope will never be lost. You helped us discover new hunting locations in the territory and Swan spoke extremely highly of you. I welcome you to the tribe as our newest prey-hunter. Serve your tribemates well."
