Levi shifted the coins cautiously in his hand. An old man stood with him on the dock. “This is her.” He sighed, gesturing grandly to a large masted ship that bobbed delicately in front of them. Levi raised an eyebrow. “No it’s not.” He said evenly “My mom’s ship was called ‘Spice Girl’ not ‘The Loyal Eel’.” The old man shrugged. “Dunno,” he said “The past owner must’ve changed the name. Do you want it or not?” Levi nodded with a sigh and plopped the bag of coins into the old man’s hands. He watched as he walked away, Levi’s life savings in hand. Once Levi was alone, he looked down to his partner. Nudging Kraken lightly with his foot, he told the dog to wake up. “Come on man, you slept all night you can’t still be tired.” He chuckled. The papillon yawned in protest, but got to his paws and shook out his pelt before giving Levi a loving lick on his ankle. Levi scooped his loyal dog up and boarded the ship.

“It’s not that bad at all.” Levi mused, looking to where Kraken was curled up on top of a barrel. The man swung around one of the masts and looked out at the sea. Gulls called above him, and he smiled. He loved the sea, always had and always would. After the collapse of the world, the first thing he wanted to do was buy back his family’s merchant ship. He wanted to leave the mainland, scavenge the surrounding islands, and live freely. Maybe he would even pick up a few people along the way. He looked down at his dog. “Buddy you and I are going to go places.” He mused “I’m thinking maybe two days’ time, we’ll be out on the water. We just gotta do some cleaning up.” Levi pulled out his notebook from his back pocket. There was a list of things that needed to be cleaned and repaired before they truly set sail. “What do you think, Kraken?” He asked, running a finger down the list “Dusting or repairing the livestock rafters?” The small dog blinked and tilted his head. “You’re right dusting is boring. Rafters it is.” He flipped the notebook closed and tucked it back into his jeans. Patting his thigh, he called his dog, and the two walked beneath the deck to check out their new home.

foot in front of foot. that was what avas told himself. he should never have joined blaise's side if he had known that there was only going to be the two of them on their own with barely any resources to live. but avas admired the older's confidence. blaise had told him that his plan was to make sure all of the living civilians in the town were saved and kept safe. blaise was a good person, he had great plans for the place, and yet, here they were, only two people. but the male didn't really have a choice between blaise, and essentially, dying. so they left their base, headed towards the town that he had originally lived. it now torn up, the planks of floorboards upturned, glass fractured into intricate weblike cracks, fragile to the touch. avas once touched one of them out of curiosity, ending up with many scratches on his body, all over. he felt like crying, knowing the apocalyptic creatures would take no mercy on him, making him one of them in no time. but without fail, avas still got up from his mistake, brushing the glass off from his clothes before limping away. at that time, which might have been weeks ago, a female came up to him, out from a brush. she tended to his wounds, applying ointment to the broken skin, promising it would heal in a few days. she chided him, telling avas "that was the dumbest mistake i've seen.", and they had a good laugh.

blaise tapped avas on the shoulder, bringing himself back to reality, away from the anecdote. "sorry, i didn't catch that," he sighed, turning towards the older. "i asked you if there was anyone you remembered seeing around town before me?" he asked, voice low and quiet, not to provoke nearby zombies. avas grinned, remembering the woman who healed him. "yes, actually, believe it or not." and they started their search for the healer. neither of them were confident enough to split up from each other, so they stayed close to one another, looking through abandoned houses, parks and offices. but they couldn't find a single person in the town. the older gave avas a grim face. "i'm sorry, i—" blaise cut the younger off with a glare. avas closed his mouth, the silence between the two was suffocating almost, the older saw something, but yet he wouldn't tell his companion, most likely in fear the creature would leap at them. a brush in front of them rustled, showing a woman, older than both blaise and avas. she smiled serenely, probably wondering why they were searching for her. "i'm blaise, and this is avas— but probably already know him." the older said, a quick smile. "leigh. i'll gladly join your tropes." she replied, already knowing their intent. "i heard you guys searching for me. i packed my medical equipment." she said, shouldering a small bag, walking towards them. "lead the way," she nodded, leaving blaise and avas to take her to the base.

Silence. That is what Kylen could remember of the moment the whole world came to a standstill.
Silence all around him, the shock of what was being heard over the radio taking hold and making his blood run cold. Then it was loud. Screams of pure terror came from what felt like every direction around the small house, the people within rushing around him hurriedly packing whatever was deemed useful and valuable. Kylen had been at a loss. He didn't know the people with whom he shared this house, the one friend he had travelled here with had been staying closer to the 'city', and his family on the other side of the world. There was a small, sudden moment in which Kylen understood what he'd already lost, that there wasn't hope of ever seeing his family again.

The 'outbreak' as it came to be called didn't take long to destroy all that humans had ever known, and to change their lives forever in what felt like just a few minutes. Kylen had eventually strayed from the few people he started this journey with, hope of ever finding a familiar face fading with them. Along the way however he had managed to find and befriend an adorable feline companion he instantly named 'mochi', which he thought quite fitting though the cat didn't seem to agree. Kylen continued on through the Canadian wilderness, coming to understand the dangers of staying too close to the rather abandoned small towns, and the small number of groups they harboured. Funny thing Kylen thought, how so many people turned to violence against other living humans despite the fact they were all fighting against almost certain death. Well maybe not so funny, after some groups tore each other to pieces, the bodies later rising to join the ever-growing horde of undead that now plagued the 'new world'.

A warm streak of the rising sun filtered through the still curtains, rousing a small groan from the young man's stiff form settled on the old couch. Kylen tiredly peeled open his dark brown eyes, at once locking onto the furry figure curled into his crossed arms, instantly pulling a smile onto his dry lips. He briefly ran his tongue over them before releasing a sigh and beginning to stretch his limbs, the cat remaining unbothered by his movements. "Morning Mochi", his hushed voice gained a flicker of the feline's ears and after a long second the cat too stretched out his limbs before focusing on his human companion. Kylen smiled at the familiar routine and reached a lazy hand forward to gently scratch along Mochi's chin, his heart warming as the cat leaned heavily into his touch. He felt like he owed quite a lot to Mochi if he was honest, his feline companion gave him some much needed company after so many long days without seeing another living soul, and he gave some rather solid advice if Kylen interpreted correctly. Quiet mornings like these were something the young man had come to cherish, as per usual routine he would have to leave the pair's makeshift 'camp' within the forgotten farmhouse and head towards the closest small town to scavenge for some much needed supplies, and each time he left Kylen knew the possibility of never returning.
He allowed for some more time to pass, the small living room filled with the sounds of Mochi's contented purring, before hoisting himself up and off the couch, startling the cat who shot him a very unimpressed look. Sending him a quick apology Kylen made his way through to the hallway that lead to the front door and seized the small tattered bag, he stood still for just a few seconds before the familiar small meows sounded from behind. Turning to Mochi, Kylen again ran his fingers through his soft fur affectionately before standing with a sigh, "I promise I'll be back". With his goodbyes said Kylen headed out into the trees beyond the small clearing with a sense of unease bubbling in his empty stomach, he hated leaving Mochi alone at the farm but also knew the dangers of bringing his partner with him, and he definitely wasn't ready to risk losing his only companion to the horrors that awaited outside.

alaina walked quickly down the empty streets of eden, the road was slick with water as a drizzle poured down on her. she pulled the grey hood of her waterproof jacket over her head. bright neon purple lights flickered as advertisements that hadn't had the chance to be changed played on an endless loop around her. eden ran off of solar energy, which would last around twenty five years without maintenance. so luckily for alaina, these lights were not going away anytime soon.
she steered off the road towards a building with a bright neon sign glowing the words "groceries". the windows in the front were smashed leaving shards of glass glittering on the sidewalk. she climbed through the remains of the window and went inside, hoping to find something.
she browsed what little was left on the shelves, despite the outside of the city being well lit, the inside of the store was ruined, it was apparent that multiple people had raided the place and destroyed everything. not that this was an unusual sight in eden, it was normal for stores and places to be robbed on a daily basis. no one in eden had any regard for others, or themselves.
alaina stepped over a body, their arm twitching and sparking from whatever piece of tech they had installed prior to the virus.
she scoffed, there was a time when everyone thought it was going to be the new technology that would end them all, turns out it was a silly disease. she went back to her browsing, stopping to read the back of a box when she heard a crunch behind her.
adrenaline spiked in her body as she quickly reached to her side pulling out a pistol and pointing it at the person who had been approaching her.
he raised his hands up in surrender. alaina did not let her guard down. "who are you?"
"uh, my name is elriot." he stammered.
she looked him up and down, checking for any injuries, she didn't know if he was bitten or not. "how long have you been here?"
"not long... i didn't see you."
she lowered the gun hesitantly. "okay."
she pushed past him heading towards the entrance of the store, she didn't want to run into anyone, she didn't need people seeing her.
"hey!" he called chasing after her.
her walk turned into a run as he kept following her. she started looking around the area for somewhere she could duck and hide, she spotted a small corner in the buildings that would provide enough space for her to hide. she sprinted forwards sliding into the corner. she spotted him running past, and as fast as lighting she grabbed him and pinned him to the ground on his stomach holding his left arm with her hands and putting her foot on his other arm. "what do you want from me!" she snapped.
"i was thinking we could stick together-ah!" he winced in pain as she pressed her foot down. "do you mind letting me go?"
alaina huffed and let him go, he jumped to his feet rubbing his arm.
"thanks." he breathed. "i was saying, we could stick together. help each other out, its really hard out here-"
"i know how hard it is out here." alaina interrupted. "and i'm not looking for a partner."
"please, its tough out here. we're better off sticking together. maybe even getting a small group together."
"like i said... i'm not looking for partners."
she started walking away but he reached out and grabbed her arm.
she yanked her arm away. she was about to leave again, but he didn't look like he was going to give up so easily. "fine, you can... stick with me."

The people of Redemption resides in the ruins of a dystopian kingdom, their homestead territory expands around an abandoned town and an empty chapel that serves as the gathering hall. Redemption comprises people of different backgrounds and does not discriminate regardless of race, colour or believes. The once welcoming group, however, did not take long to turn into a reserved and rather... hostile bunch after an incident that left the surviving group with half its' members. Redemption has come a long way since then, but the incident has left them distrusting newcomers to great lengths.
Despite being made up of mostly agnostic members, certain members still pledge their allegiance and faith to different gods of differing religions. Clerics of the group, however, will pledge their faith to the Roman gods.
A few aeons after the commencement of the apocalypse, kingdoms collapsed and fell into ruins - which is what they call home now. Redemption members are known to pillage nearby towns for resources and metal, and they can also often be spotted participating in trades from nearby quarters or camps.

The Counsel - The band of leaders that are called for important meetings; comprising of Warden, Deputy, Cleric & Overseer.

Scavengers - The ones who travels to the far/out lands to acquire resources.
Venators - The ones who feed the group, they do both hunting and farmwork.
Knack-Slacks - The ones who are tasked with doing odd jobs all around the homestead. Ones who don't necessarily fit into the Hunter or Scavenger category.
Broodmothers - The ones who help to deliver mothers.
Colts - Those in training above 13.
Younglings - As the name suggests, below 13.
Retirees - The aged or physically limited members.
