''Dustpaw!'' The distant cry of his mentor rang through the frost-chilled air and the young tabby sped up, nervously glancing over his shoulder; The bundle of stolen herbs in his maw, the apprentice couldn't help but hope it would be enough. MireClan had been suffering from a tragic plague, and Adderpaw had complained miserably about how his sister had passed away not too long ago. With his friend's sorrowful and heartbroken face in mind, Dustpaw hurried on through the snow, cutting an agile path through the clumps of white-speckled bracken and rotting wood. His mentor continued to cry out, growing more urgent - a growl bubbling up in the back of their throat, as they struggled to keep up; Dustpaw knew he was not strong, but he knew he was stubborn.

Adderpaw and his clan needed him, and they needed Rosestream's herbs more than HillClan's warriors. He could do this, he wouldn't let them catch him. Besides, Dustpaw knew the grave danger he was in - If he could just cross the border and dump the herbs there, Dustpaw could hopefully sneak back and claim he'd simply gotten lost. It'd happened before after-all and everyone would be none the wiser for it. The wind had begun to pick up, stirring snow into his eyes and whiskers; And the cold began to slowly set in. With aching paws, Dustpaw made his way carefully through the muck - Mercifully, it had frozen solid.

The snow began to pile up, all the way up to his belly-fur and his jaws ached from carrying the small bundle of herbs for so long in the biting cold. Ears twitching, Dustpaw looked up and around - There was nothing but white stillness all around, and the faint whine of the wind in his ears. He could no longer hear his mentor's strained voice. Perhaps, they'd given up? Or had they been hurt? This weather was awfully bitter, cutting through him with a steely cold. ''Hawknose?'' He whimpered, looking over his shoulder - Dustpaw didn't want anyone to be hurt, certainly not because of him. ''Hawknose?!'' There was nothing but the moan of the wind in the branches and the tabby decided to continue the slow, but steady trudge through the unforgiving weather. He'd be there soon. It wouldn't be too long now. Just a little longer and he could drop off these herbs to Adderpaw and his medicine cat.

The wind howled and wailed, the apprentice's spirits taking a beating from the onslaught of stinging frost. Dustpaw could no longer even feel his paws, traipsing numbly through the snow, he could no longer even feel his face or body; It was as though he was nothing at all. Trembling, Dustpaw looked around and found nothing but a white glare beating down on him. He was lost, horribly so. ''Help!'' Dustpaw cried out, voice muffled by herb and wind. Nobody was coming, and the apprentice felt a little foolish for crying - Why would any sane warrior be out in these conditions? Why was he out in these conditions? He was just an apprentice, a little stupid idealistic apprentice.The snow climbed steadily higher as Dustpaw forced himself to march miserably on - Until he could carry on no longer. The weather was far too wicked and far too beastly for the likes of him and Dustpaw stumbled, falling into the thick snow. ''I'm...I'm sorry.'' Dustpaw whimpered, as darkness crept in from the corners of his eyes, the world rapidly shrinking before him. ''Sorry...'' Who was he apologizing to, he wondered? His mama, who would be heartbroken that her only son had died? His mentor, who would feel like a failure for letting him out of his sight? His clan, who he had stolen from?

His friend, who would be all alone after his passing?

When he woke up, Dustpaw found himself surrounded by trees - Pines taller than he could've ever imagined loomed around him, framing a vast black sky. Rising to his paws, the tabby quickly noticed the lack of snow and agony, and his eyes flew wide. ''This isn't StarClan?'' His heart hammered against his chest, beating out its fearful rhythm. Had he somehow broken the law of the stars? Had their judgement sealed his doom? Shaking his head, Dustpaw looked around frantically. ''Help! Help!'' He cried to the thin air, nervously walking forth - He seemed to do a lot of that these days. ''I'm not meant to be here!'' The grey-brown tabby's voice trembled, as ravens bickered back and forth in the leaves, and the darkness stretched on and on and on. It was ceaseless, and no amount of staring could make out anything in the shadows. ''Someone please answer me!'' And someone answered, stepping out of the shadows and into his path - A tall tortoiseshell cat with eerie green eyes that pierced through him.

''Cease your crying, young one'' She murmured, regarding him with a patient sympathy. ''This is not the Dark Forest that you fear, but the place of many names.'' The tortoiseshell calmly explained. ''I believe your clan called it the starless river?'' It rung a bell in Dustpaw's head and he nodded shyly. ''You'll be safe here, trust me.'' She glanced off into the distance, her knowing eyes piercing a path through the forest. ''You are not alone, you will be found by friends.'' The tortoiseshell turned slowly to him. ''Follow me, young one.'' And follow her, he did - Dustpaw didn't particularly feel like wandering off anymore. The last time he had hadn't turned out so well for him, he thought sheepishly. Slowly, they made their way through the forest until they came across a large clearing, illuminated by ghostly moonlight. ''Wait here, young one.'' The tortoiseshell commanded in a gentle voice.

Before she could disappear, Dustpaw called out to her. ''Wait! What's your name?'' There was something familiar about the shimmer of her dark pelt, her markings moving like flames across her face and body - Certainly, the elders had spoken about those eerie green eyes that saw everything and knew everything. She was no mere cat, even he knew that much. ''I don't think I ever got it?'' Dustpaw murmured, dipping his head respectfully. ''My name is Dustpaw, if you wanted it.'' It was only fair.

''I go by many names, but I believe I am the one that your clan calls 'the traitor.'''

He didn't seem to stop trembling, looking around as though someone was going to rip his ears off; It was pathetic. ''Calm down.'' She sighed, shaking her head softly. ''Stop trembling, there's nothing to be afraid of.'' He had kept babbling about a tortoiseshell cat with striking green eyes, and how she was 'the traitor'. Of course, Owlfeather knew her clan had a myth of a mysterious tortoiseshell cat but they had called her Ivywhisker, and she would disguise herself as an ordinary cat, wandering the territories and bringing good fortune with her. Nothing like the murderous 'traitor' that Dustpaw spoke so vehemently about. With a gentle sigh, Owlfeather looked up and spotted Goshawkfur slowly making her way up to her, her grey pelt bristling with anxiety and eyes full of fear.

Good grief, this was a clan of cowards.

''H-hey Owlfeather.'' Goshawkfur smiled a little too widely for Owlfeather's liking, her eyes not quiet meeting the tabby's. ''Hey Dustpaw, I was wondering if you two wanted to go hunting? With me?'' Goshawkfur murmured, picking idly at the grass with one paw. ''I don't really want to go alone, you understand of course?'' She was used to open-sprawling land, with the bright sky overhead and the glare of the warm sun - Not this dire, dark forest that seemed to shuffle closer everyday. Sometimes, Goshawk wondered if she was simply going mad from being in the shadows. ''Besides, it's better to go in threes...especially after you mentioned that tortoiseshell.'' Goshawkfur nodded at Dustpaw, swallowing nervously - Although she did not call the great tortoiseshell with flashing green eyes 'the traitor', Goshawkfur trembled at the mention of her all the same; Tall Shadow, a leering figure that stalked through the dark and stole cats who wandered too far away from StarClan's light. ''Wouldn't want anyone falling prey to her!'' Goshawkfur chuckled uneasily. She wasn't usually this nervous but then, she wasn't normally dead.

Dustpaw gulped, nodding in agreement. His mentor didn't appear convinced and she continued to plow on in silence - Her solemn figure disappearing into the darkness. ''Y-yeah.'' Dustpaw smiled nervously, trotting to keep up with Owlfeather; Walking in her shadow, Dustpaw couldn't help but wonder what they were all doing here. Dandeliontail had helpfully told him that this was limbo and they were stuck here, for how long? Dandeliontail didn't have an answer for him. Ears twitching, Dustpaw looked around slowly - The forest seemed harmless enough in retrospect, endless silence awaiting him. ''Why are we here?'' Dustpaw piped up, whiskers twitching. Had he done something wrong? He'd hoped not, he'd only been trying to help someone; Surely, that was okay?

''The answer is simple.'' Owlfeather replied calmly, sniffing the cold air. The long-furred molly had had her suspicions for a while, and after Dustpaw had joined, Owlfeather's suspicions had only grown; Why would they subject an apprentice to this? ''StarClan made a mistake.'' The dark tabby sighed, shaking her head softly. Her poor kittens, stranded on the other side of the border, forced to watch their mother toil in the darkness - How could StarClan do this to them? To an innocent queen and her precious kittens? It was laughable. ''Come on now, have you two only just realized?'' Owlfeather scoffed, staring at their wide-eyed expressions. ''Pray tell, why do you think you're here?'' She remarked. ''Because StarClan wants to double check you deserve to be up there?''

''Y-yeah!'' Goshawkfur nodded adamantly, glaring at Owlfeather. She was horrified with the treacherous words that the older tabby spoke, and mortified at the way they dug under her skin like parasites, eating away at her. ''StarClan takes their time and you-'' Goshawkfur growled through her teeth, whirling around to push Dustpaw gradually away from Owlfeather. ''-disregard everything they've done for us!'' The tabby spluttered, the fur on the back of her neck bristling with shock. ''How could you turn your back on them?'' Goshawkfur stared at Owlfeather, shaking her head. It was all she had left, her faith in StarClan, and she wasn't going to let Owlfeather sap it from her. ''What did they do that was so wrong?'' Death was natural, maybe Owlfeather was just taking it too personally - Maybe she thought she was cursed, but there was no reason why the stars would care about the comings and going of a cat such as Owlfeather. Why would they? They were immortal and Owlfeather was a mere mortal, trying to defy the gods.

''Pray tell, dear, how did you die?''

Goshawkfur froze, pelt bristling with apprehension. ''Y-you want to know how I died?'' She spluttered, shaking her head. ''Over my dead body!'' She spat, before realizing her mistake - They were all dead already, what did it matter anymore? Goshawkfur's whiskers twitched awkwardly, as she stood quietly in the wind. They were all rotting in the earth, no matter what clan they were or rank they had been, they were the dead and their friends and family were all on the other side of that strange realm. ''...Owlfeather, please.'' Goshawkfur whimpered, backing away. ''Please don't do this, let me keep it to myself.'' She nodded, glancing at Dustpaw - He looked so young, poor thing, and he was dead along with everyone else; Did he have any siblings? Any friends? She wondered if he had any envy towards them - She'd be bitter if she couldn't become warrior alongside her denmates. ''...I'm going hunting, see you at camp.'' Goshawkfur mumbled, backing away slowly, brown-eyes flashing balefully.

cumulus had thought he was doing well with his clan, but apparently this was not true. the celestial beings had been around for over seven moons now, and yes he hadn't necessarily taken town their enemy clan, the crossroads demons, yet but he believed that they were making progress steps towards that. but the other archangels were clearly unhappy with the clan, and that came to show quickly. a large ginger persian cat had appeared several days ago, stating that he had been instructed by stratus, nimbus, and cirrus in a vision to come to the altar to host someone. cumulus knew that something was seriously up, because this was the first time that the angels had directly sent a cat to the clan to go to the altar like this. the entire clan practically followed him into prayer room, and watched as he stood with his two front paws and head resting against the altar as the heavenly hosts sent someone down into the willing vessel. the second that the large persian's olive green eyes opened, cumulus knew who he was, and felt his knees grow weak at the realization as it hit him who this tom was. "vervain... i'm surprised to see you down here on the earthly plane. the other archangels havent ever sent me any heavenly seraphim before this. Is something the matter?”

the large Persian gave a harsh look to the Tom before turning to face the gathering crowd of cats. “Everyone is to leave the altar room. There will be a meeting between the high ranks. Only cumulus, aquilegia, juniper, and Angelica may stay behind. Everyone else must leave now.” his tone of voice and facial expression gave no room for questioning. his stern face grew darker as the clan's leadership roles all gathered around him, and he leapt up onto the altar to assure their eyes were on him. "the archangels are not happy, and rumor has it that the big man up there isnt happy either. your clan has been down here for seven moons, and you have done absolutely nothing against the crossroads demons. you are no closer to taking down raggedstar; his ranks are growing every day. and instead of focusing on them, your cats are going off and having relations with mortal cats from a dozen other clans. you have two pregnant mollies and six kits currently; get your cats under control of the archangels will."

the dainty british shorthair couldnt help the butterflies that filled her stomach as the handsome black and white tom approached her and asked if she would like to go on a walk with him. lately, they had been spending more time together and getting to know each other better. ever since lunawing had joined the clan with her older brother, she had found spiderwhisper to be a very handsome tom. whereas she had a very small, petite body, he was very long and tall. his dark fur but bright eyes intrigued her. he had this aura about him that was very mysterious, and while he seemed quite closed off and distant from many of their clanmates, he had taken an interest in her as well rather quickly. as they walked together this time into the trees that surrounded the church that they called home, and he took her down this small path that they walked on practically every time that they spent time together. it was familiar, and it brought a smile to lunawings face just remembering all of the times that they had gone for walks together in the last few moons. bramblewhisker slowed their pace to a stop before turning to directly face the small molly. he leaned forward to press his head against hers, his bright yellow-green eyes meeting her soft brown eyes with a gentle smile. "lunawing, we have been getting to know each other for a few moons now, and honestly i feel about you a way that i have never felt before, nor did i think i could even fall so quickly or so deeply for someone. all of this is to say; i am in love with you, and it would mean the world to me if you would spend the rest of your life with me as my mate." it was a bit funny to see the normally so calm and confident tom to be a bit nervous, so lunawing made a face like she really had to think about it, but then let a big smile out as she playfully tackled the tom, rubbing her head under his chin. "i would absolutely love to spend our lives together bramblewhisker! yes i will be your mate, i love you too!"

Silentstar stared. "What a price they're requesting," she finally mused. "But understandable, considering its their cats being put at risk to help for strangers." There was a silence, and the two shifted their feet uncertainly, but her final verdict came quick. "Alright, ask for herbs from the medicine cat if they can spare some, and ask the head of the hunting patrol for some freshly caught squirrel."

Azureheart glared at Cunningleap as he flashed the younger tom a smug smirk. "Silentstar, don't you think that we can fight them off without the help of the second rogue pack?" She just waved his question away. "It will bring us closer together, since we'll be occupying the same area of the forest anyway." "So we drive a rogue pack off just for another one to move in?"

She flashed him a fierce glare. "If it makes you feel better, we can always poison the second rogue pack. Our medicine cats are doing wonderful, especially with my dear Deathpaw as their apprentice." She gives a purr of content. Azureheart just stared at her. Deathpaw is a demon! And you're getting off topic. Still, Silenstar drew up higher and growled, "I know what I'm doing, Azureheart. We don't need the forest, but we need to avenge Stumptail."

"You didn't trust him very much anyway," Azureheart hissed back. "You weren't mourning for him. And I suppose we also have to avenge Gingersun by killing all the badgers."

Quick as lightning, Silentstar smacked Azureheart across the left side of his head. Staggering back, he felt hot blood trickle down his head. A shallow cut, but it was enough pain for him to remember that Silentstar was his superior. "Listen, Azureheart," she growled, voice low. "I will not take such insolence from my warriors. I trust my warriors to trust me in my decisions."

Sullenly, he slank away. But before he went, she called after him, "You'll have an apprentice from now on, to remind you to keep your patience. Weaselpaw should do, yes."

About:

All cats in Marshclan are aggressive and battle hungry. Insulting each other as jokes, play fighting but way more violent then how kits would and starting random battles. With a strict leader that does not take mistakes lightly, they are battle hungry. They live in a morass, a wet land being overlapped with shallow ponds. The ponds drown grass and just barely touch the trunks of surrounding willows. The cats hunt amphibians, rodents and small birds. They are known as: Rigorous or intolerable.
