Season: Winter

The air is so frigid out that even dogs with long coats are feeling chilly. The short-coated dogs can barely move and are non-stop shivering. This cold spell came into the valley quickly and unexpectedly. The winds blew it from the mountains in the North.

Xylah was walking up to a den to get out of the cold. She was just about to enter when Iliad jumped in front of her. She says "Wait, don't go in there. That's where Cinna is staying. She's very sick and contagious. You need to stay away from her."
Xylah nodded. "Ok, I'll go find another den to rest in." The golden walked into a different den to sleep.
Meanwhile, the other dogs were either hanging around camp or out on patrol. Goose was talking to the new alpha Iris. "Iris, you have an unusual coat for a german shepherd."
Iris looked over the dog. "You have an unusual coat for a labrador."
Goose chuckled. "Yeah, I suppose so. How do you like Rexx?"
"Hmm. Rexx is nice for a brute. He surprised me with how gently he can be with the pack. It is my fate to be his mate according to the ancestors."
Goose nodded. "It was nice talking to you, but I'm taking my hunting party to look for elk."
[The hunting party catch X2 rabbits and X1 pheasant.]

[The patrol goes uneventful.]
[The herb hunting party find X1 Catmint and X1 Oak leaves. Jules remembers that Catmint can be used to treat whitecough and oak leaves will help prevent Cinna from infection. She thinks that one more Catmint will cure Cinna.]

Season: Winter
Weather Report: the snow is coming down hard.
icy tendrils that dance in the sky are striking down, and
it's heavily advised to keep your pups and elders inside to
keep them safe. Birthing, hunting and herb-hunting will
be harder as winter has started to take it's toll on everyone.

(Sorry for the long wait everyone. Mod trials got me going crazy and so does work. If I missed anyone please pm me your last post and I will edit this comment)

Goose led his small troop around on a patrol. Xylah walking in between Felix and Thaddeus, the trio becoming a good group of friends. Queenie walking by herself behind Brass, and himself, in the back watching his packmates patrol the area. He heard a shuffling from the bushes beside him, and suddenly a badger leaped out, growling and snarling. Badgers, although tiny,
were vicious little creatures that could kill a dog when they wanted to.

"Badger!" Goose yelled, his voice howling into the wind at his companions. Imediately Felix and Thaddeus turned around, shoving Xylah behind them, and snarling at the badger. Brass lept forward and shoved her nose right at the badgers bottom, taking a bit of hair out of his back end before whirling out of the way of his sharp teeth. Queenie snarled and snapped her teeth at the badger,
the fierce mother looking like a dangerous dog instead of the gentle soul she normally was.

The dogs surronded the badger, nipping at it when it turned its back, until it tired out and was breathing heavily. They let it slip through Felix and Thaddeus and get away safely to go do what a badger does best.

(hey so i realized i forgot to change what i said last time for the tau's to be learning patrolling instead of stalking,
so i changed it to be a new skill.

Number of Dogs:10

Up in the mountains, it was getting cold with Winter. The dogs were thriving well but precautions were also set. Tulip and Conner were still fussing with Aster who was starting to become a bit annoyed. So, they started to leave her alone for a while but she did enjoy their company anyway. Everyone else in the kennel were doing busy as usual.

Seria was looking out at the snow coming down. She was lost in her own thoughts. So much so that she didn't realise Sol sitting next to her. "Seria," he softly said. She slightly jumped then turned to face him.
"Oh, hello Sol. I didn't notice you there," she replied.
"That's okay. I just wanted to see if you were okay," he said with a reassuring smile.
"Ah..." she looked away. "Yeah, I'm fine. I was just thinking about that fox scent Sandy and I noticed."
"I heard. We should do something about that before it gets closer. If there is a fox at least," he nodded.
"Yes. That would be best. I'm just nervous but I'm sure it will be fine." Seria stood up and gave herself a shake.
"I can come with you on the patrol if you would like," Sol offered.
"That would be great," she smiled.

The two went to find Tulip to tell them where they would be going.
"That sounds like a good idea but be careful. It's snowing and icy out there," Tulip told them. "Also, you should leave with a couple other dogs. Just to be safe."
"Thank you Tulip. We'll stay safe," Seria bowed her head to her.
"I'm just a shaman. You are more important than me," she said and gave a wise smile. "Anyway, I feel like testing my luck so I'll look for herbs. Someone look after Aster while I'm out." Seria and Sol watched her leave then turned to the rest of the kennel. Seria cleared her throat.

"As you may have heard, a fox has been scented in her territory. We will be going to investigate it now. We also require a couple others. Who would like to come? Keep in mind it could be dangerous, especially who the snow," she announced.
"I'll come," Conner immediately stood up. "If there's a fox I need to protect my mate."
"Conner..." Aster's voice trailed off.
"I'll come too!" Bella shouted.
"Okay. Then Sol, Conner, Bella and I will go investigate it. The rest of you can either hunt or stay here," Seria said and gathered the small group of dogs.
"Stay safe out there!" Aster called.

Rusty then ran up to them. "Wait! I want to come!"
Sol shook his head. "No. You stay here," he said.
"Why?" he whined.
"It's for the best," Seria interrupted. You can stay here and guard the camp. Who knows, the fox could come here?" A twinkle appeared in his eyes and he nodded and ran off. Sol gave her a weird look.
"Don't worry, I was just joking. Anyway, let's go!" she shouted. The group of dogs then ran out into the snow.

It's fairly poisonous, and if I catch you eating it you might as well already be dead." Amour warned, tucking the plant away. "Why take it back here then?" Sparrow questioned. Amour hesitated. "You never know if there's going to be any traitors lurking the camp."

"No, no, no." A low growl rumbled in Sage's throat. "Use more force! Don't be pitiful of your enemies, Viola." Viola whined softly but nodded. "Sorry." She murmured. Sage sighed. "Don't be sorry. If you keep on apologizing to your attacker, then you'd be dead in a heartbeat." Sage barked with an agitated snarl. Viola grimaced but nodded again. "Sorr- I mean, of course." Viola replied. "Good. Now try again. Use everything you got. Don't worry about me, I'll be fine." Sage backed up prepared himself. Viola circled around her mentor and without wasting much more time, she lunged forward and let out a ear-piercing howl. Sage simply shifted to the side and left Viola tumbling to the ground. Before Sage could speak, without hesitation Viola retrieved her energy and got back up on all fours, taking a sharp turn around. Viola leaped towards Sage, giving him a nasty headbutt. Sage staggered backwards before ultimately falling. Viola's head rang with pain, but her pride washed over. "Ouch." She laughed.

"I demand for a change in our pack." Bullet snapped firmly. Boom frowned. "Why are you telling me, though? Shouldn't you be discussing this with the well uh... actual Beta? Gabriel only has a few more months until she's out of the nursery, I bet you could wait until then." Boom suggested, but Bullet shook his head vigorously. Boom winced. "What I'm saying is we need a new Alpha." Bullet barked in a gravelly tone. His words rang in Boom's head, followed by a desperate sigh. "Who?" Boom asked, and Bullet was silent for a moment. "Anyone." Bullet's voice was flooding with tragedy and bitterness, making Boom's face soften. "Who's 'anyone'? Bullet, please. We already had this conversation before. You're already a stellar Alpha, and everyone is dependent on you to get them through winter." Boom whined. Bullet barked no more. He gave Boom a fierce glare before storming out of the camp.

Current.
Nyx has returned to pack a few moonrises ago, and she waited with anticipation for her sister to return. She felt uneasy in the pack, each dog that she knew feeling like a new dog. The murder of her packmates at the sanguis trials had scarred her, remembering the fangs of her alpha digging into the pelage of the dogs she had once felt loyal to.
xxxxThis wasn't the pack she strived to become a fully-fledged member of.
xxxxThis was the Vehementi Empire.

"Did your kin alert you that she would be taking a longer than expected trip into the city?" A rough, deep voice suddenly questioned.
xxxxNyx jumped, startled. Her lanky body whipped around to face the brute that had spoken, though she immediately regretted even thinking about it.
xxxxIt was Diablo. Even though the irish wolfhound was taller than the male, his impressive stance and dominance sent her cowering. She dipped her head, her eyes digging into the ground as she ignored the feeling of his own gaze boring into her.

"I asked you a question, cadet." He growled.

Nyx gulped, ears pinned against her head as she shook her wiry-furred cranium. "No. She didn't speak to me about the trials."
xxxxNyx felt a twinge of regret as she remembered how frightened her sister was. Asteria was never a fan of the brutality of the pack, and with the arrival of the Vehementi empire she seemed constantly on edge.
xxxxNyx felt the same now. Each day she endured the hardships of being a newly-fledged vanguard. She was constantly picked on by the others, treated like dirt and nothing else. She wanted out.

It was then she noticed the hulking mass of black and rusty pelted muscle had stalked off, moving up to leap up onto the meeting rock. She already stared walking, dragging her large paws across the camp grounds to reach the mouth of the meeting rock before her alpha let out his booming call of alert.
She watched as familiar faces began to crowd round, though none seemed to want to go anywhere near the wolfhound. She watched as the skilled battalions began to group up, watching as Neith entered the small huddling that consisted of Spectre, Costello and Valerik. The doberman fae looked up intently at her alpha just as the red and tan vanguard, Reno, came up to settle next to her.
xxxxReno hissed something in Neith's ear, smirking. Neith let out a harsh bark, her jaws parting wide as she attempted to grab some of the other dog's ear, barely missing as her jaws slammed down together just as Reno skirted away with a snicker.

Nyx came aware of the presence of the wise mastiff mix, Zariana, as she settled down next to the irish wolfhound, Victurri at the older female's hip and giving Nyx a brief nod.
xxxx"Those two were just playing." Zariana murmured into Nyx's ear softly. "Just like you and Asteria do."

Nyx felt worry wash over her as she was reminded of her sister once more. Her widened eyes explained enough to the intelligent Zariana.
xxxx"Your sister is fine. She can handle herself, I'm positive of it."
xxxxNyx turned to angle her face to stare directly at Zariana, her eyes round with worry. "You think s—"

The wolfhound was cut off by the booming bark of her leader.
xxxx"Listen up!" He snapped, earning the attention of any dog that had bothered to talk. "The Miscuer trials were a full moon ago, and we have still seen no signs nor traces of the cadet, Asteria." His voice was flat, uncaring as he said his next words. "Asteria has either deserted us or has been killed. Either way, she is now dead to us. She was weak, anyways." Moving to leap down from the boulder, Diablo said a few final words to part with. "This meeting is now over."

Nyx couldn't contain her shock.
xxxx"What do you mean, she's dead? She couldn't be!" Her cry filled the air, loud and shrill as she questioned her leader—an unwise and particularly unsafe decision.

Diablo shifted his body so he could face the direction of Nyx, only his tail flicking the sign of annoyance. "Be my guest and try to find her, but if you go out there, you aren't coming back. She's dead to us. And if you leave, you will be too."

A surge of determination coursed through her veins as she spoke her next words. "She's my sister. And family comes before anything."
xxxxWith those words, the Irish wolfhound sped off into the brush, disappearing just as the pack started to riot with surprise.

Diablo hoped down from the boulder, quickly nudging Reno and Neith and gesturing forwards. "Go after her. And if she even has a single hesitation upon not leaving the borders than execute her."

Tucked away and deep into the muddy and forbidden swamps,
a group of outcasts live and thrive among one another. These
dogs gathered when times were desperate and they had no ot
her place to go. Now they have loyalty and protection to hold
their foundations strong.

You can say one thing about this group right off the bat; they are a rather odd group of misfits and outcasts. Yes, this is where the unwanted dogs go, ones that were kicked from others, or abandoned rather coldly. Your yappy, "useless" small-medium sized dogs all end up here when they are unwanted. Most feral groups tend to search for larger and stronger dogs, which is why these tend to get left out. Well, not anymore...

{ Their Territory

Kicked aside and left to fend for themselves, these dogs were pushed into the very place others rarely step foot into. The swamps. Legends or monsters and horrible creatures living among the muck first frightened the dogs, but that quickly passed. Aside from the thorns and bugs, the living conditions of the swamp aren't half bad. In fact, if you take a good look around the place, you can even say it is rather beautiful.

The land these dogs occupy is rather large and patrolled constantly by the persistent members of the group. Most of the area looks like this to a newcomers eyes, but I'll tell you why it is much more intricate than one may think. Crawling over a few fallen trees, used as bridges to cross the waterways, one will come across this sight in the very center, or heart, of the swamp. This is in fact a passageway of tangled roots and trees that have created perfect dens for the group to reside. Each of the openings you see in the picture lead deep into the entanglement of foliage to a large, cave-like area where the dogs gather to participate in meetings, rest, and store food.

Otherwise, most of the territory looks like this and this. Fallen trees, raised areas of earth, and the abandoned system of bridges, once built by the humans, provide easier navigation and traveling through the swamp. If one travels toward the east, they'll discover that the forested swamp breaks into a grassier area with a small river running through it. This area attracts larger prey, but most of the time they do not pursue what one would call "the perfect catch". Being smaller in size and weaker than a group of larger dogs would, the group must go after either the young/newborns, heavily injured, or elderly. Although this would sound difficult, it is actually quite easier and more common than one would believe. Herds of deer often travel through the area with their young, and drop off the elderly.

Larger patches of land throughout the swamp, much like this, are common hunting grounds. Many creatures ( mice, voles, squirrels, rabbits, snakes, and birds ) easy for the smaller dogs to catch reside in these areas. These must be traveled to by heading north, then crossing over a huge, fallen oak, and one will find themselves on a string of "islands" rich in hidden prey. Since most creatures do not cross off of these patches of land, the area is like a whole separate ecosystem of animals differentiating from the prey deeper in the swamp. Creatures that can only be found on these patches of land are rabbits/hares, wild boar, and squirrels.

As their name suggests, this group is mainly very secretive and illusive. To outsiders, they are untrustworthy and mysterious, but to each other they are kind, selfless, and extremely loyal. The group avoids other groups, as they consist of larger and stronger breeds that could easily bring them down if they are not prepared. Some don't even know that the group exists, completely forgotten, or they call them "the shadows of the swamp".
